
Károly Markó Jr. (Carlo) 1822-1891* Hungarian painter
IFJ. MARKÓ, KÁROLY JR. PEST, 1822 - 1891, MOSCOW
Painter. The eldest son of Károly Markó Sr. He was blinded in his left eye as a result of a childhood accident. He studied landscape painting at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1836. In 1838, he moved to Pisa with his mother and siblings, where Károly Markó Sr. lived. He continued his painting studies under his father's guidance. He visited Rome in 1843. He spent a long time in Vienna between 1851-1854. He participated in several exhibitions in Vienna. He lived in Italy again between 1854-1885. He exhibited in Florence from 1845. He was appointed an honorary teacher by the academies of Florence, Urbino and Perugia. He exhibited regularly in several Italian cities. After the death of his wife, he moved to Moscow, following his two students. His works are in the Hungarian National Gallery in public collections in Hungary, and abroad in Florence and Milan.
