Oh you're loving that boy. Poo licking good. So he's heard something, hence that
look. Look at those eyes. Gabby and Bobcat. Bobcat having fun. Gotta keep an eye on Gabby that she
doesn't go chew tires. Uh-uh Gabby. We'll just follow Bobcat. Oh yeah boy. All right morning
everybody. We are driving in to the sanctuary and today we're going to be taking Bobcat and
Gabby to a new enclosure and but before we do that I'm going to be taking them on a on a walk.
Okay so arriving at Bobcat and Gabby's enclosure and normally they come running up. Oh there they
are my boy.
So Bobcat. Look here my boy. Yes yeah yeah yeah. Look here. Look here. Look here. Look here. Yeah
yeah yeah. And go. What? You cheeky Charlie. She's never gonna load if you're there. She'll never
load if you're there. No she won't. Okay. Yeah because you're naughty. Yeah. Don't pee on me.
I've always felt as many of you know that it's so so important for these animals to get out and
and to just you know sometimes mindlessly walk and walk and walk and walk. We know what it does for us
when we need to clear our minds and we go for a long walk or a run or a ride. Exercise is really
important. Hello boys. Oh oh oh. Yes next time. Next time. Next time your turn. Next time your turn.
Come on boy. So now the question is who do I follow?
Gabby or Bobcat? Let's see. As expected Bobcat's already
starting on his marking. Oh here Gabs. Gabalicious. Oh all these smells boy. Sure.
This is what life's about. Okay Bobcat poo number poo number one. So yeah Bobcat hope you enjoy.
Maybe we'll leave Bobcat and go with Gabby or let's see what Gabby wants to do first.
She's looking looking looking as to what there is to do. Let's go there.
Oh my god. Are you happy?
No jumping today Gabs. I know you're excited and look at that. Is that not what it's all about?
Gabby and Bobcat. Bobcat having fun. Gotta keep an eye on Gabby that she doesn't go chew tires.
Her and her brother are both very energetic almost hyperactive cats. Remind me a bit of myself.
Too much energy at times. So Gabby's very curious. She will always explore. Always keen for
a game. Always keen to jump on me. So today I don't feel like being jumped on.
Gabby.
You'll hear me say that a lot with this lion. Gabby. Gabby Gabby Gabby. Gabby Gabby.
Go. Away. Away. Silly Billy. Go that way. Go Gabs. So you'll often hear us uh screaming Gabby.
As Gabby does what Gabby does. Naughty cat.
Wouldn't say it's naughty actually. I think Gabby you're just mischievous and uh you've
got lots of energy that you need to dispose of. I think we follow you Gabs. Let's go Gabs. Let's go.
Come on. Let's go. Oh. So probably follow her around and him when he joins us for about an hour
hour and a half. Pretty much the same period of time that you'd probably take your dog
for a long walk. As I say they were fed yesterday so that could be a factor.
A determiner of their energy. Gabby's seeing what's going on there. Here comes Bobcat.
Already she's calming down. Uh here comes Mr Big. All right so Bobcat today
is really just about sniffing out poo poo. I think for him
gotta watch your back otherwise you're gonna have Gabby slam dunking you.
Gabby as I've said she is a boisterous lovely lioness. She's not the tallest of lionesses but
she is quite a chunky stocky girl. Not overweight at all. Gabby's been Gabby since a small little
cub. She's always jumped on me and she's always keen to surprise you. So she's got that that
little bit of you know people often say do the lions have um you know their personalities. Do
they have like fun personalities and naughty personalities and joking personalities and I
can tell you now when I look at Gabby she's definitely got one of those personalities that
is like sneaky and I'm gonna have some fun and I'm gonna jump on you and when you when you least
expect it I'm gonna take you down and and that you can almost hear her giggling under her breath.
And that's really what I love about Gabby and she's always she's always pulling these pranks
on old Bobcat and who sometimes takes it in his stride and other times he gets quite upset about
it you know. You can see that when Bobcat's been embarrassed almost by Gabby then Bobcat's like oh
you know can't do that to me and then he'll give her a real a real go back. So yeah that's Bobcat
and Gabby. Okay so Gabby's found a skull of an impala male it's actually just the horns nothing
really to eat there girl but she's still gonna try and make a meal of it. We'll just leave her
to do that. We'll just follow Bobcat. Oh yeah boy! Happinesses!
Bobcat! Oh and the camera
being mocked by Bobcat. The camera mocked compliments of Bobcat. Okay so Bobcat what
can we say about Bobcat? He really is good for his age. At an age where most lions in the wild
would be you know way past their prime and pretty much ousted from their pride because of condition
life is a lot tougher out there. Bobcat fits the description of a lion. I would say
if you had to guess his wild age wild equivalent age I think you would be looking at about a
seven year old lion. So he literally does look half his age. I'm sure most of you would agree.
Look at that cat he's really incredible. Looking good. Bobcat he's enjoying this
as am I. I think it's always good to get out, walk, let them stretch their legs,
get rid of that energy. So it's so apparent when they first get out they're just so
excited they don't know where to go and what to do which direction to take off in.
And then as the minutes you know and half an hour hour ticks by you know they really slow down
and then Gabby's on her way following us with her skull in mouth. So yeah so Bobcat
also doesn't suffer fools gladly. He really wants people
to respect his space. He wants lions to respect his space too but he specifically likes people
to keep their distance from him. If you get too close to Bobcat, Bobcat's going to let you know.
And he lets you know simply by the way that he knows how to communicate
these things to you by growling. Oh he's a black maine lion as you can see typical golden fringe
with the black black black black black. He's marking a lot his testosterone levels are still
very very peaky and the the telltale of that is behind the the hind leg there is that black
black stripe which is very very dark on Bobcat. Very very dark. That is a sign of his
testosterone levels and condition and so you can hear the other lions roaring
and Bobcat's listening. Be really cool if he starts roaring. No couldn't be bothered Kev.
He's saying that he's heard something. Hence that that look. Look at those eyes.
Completely focused. Incredible. Oh you're loving that boy. Poo licking good. See naughty Gabby
wanting to cause trouble with Bobcat. So while Bobcat sits there licking some antelope poop
which basically I've explained it before but it acts on the same receptors the feel-good receptors
in the brain and so he's actually he's actually getting on a bit of a high from sniffing and
tasting and licking and when he's licking it he's actually the sense coming over the organ of
Jacobson and so he's you know drawing it in that way and it's actually quite fascinating to see.
When I smell the the poop it actually doesn't smell that offensive. It's actually quite a nice
smell so I totally I totally get why Mr Big walking on. I totally get why he likes it
and certain poop has a much better flavor than other poop so yeah that's what Bobcat enjoys.
He enjoys just cruising around and you know sniffing the bush marking his territory
and rolling around and just wandering whereas Gabby enjoys different things. Gabby's always
looking for something to chase and looking for something to you know claw on the trees and
she's jumping up and down trees and exploring. She's a real explorer. All right guys so it's
worth discussing this as Bobcat walks past what used to be a dam and there's the dam wall
where Gabby's now coming from. So Gabby's walking towards us from the dam wall and this whole area
here is normally you know a dam and at least a wetland but currently it's as dry as a bone.
We've had a really really dry summer. Last summer was really dry. Not the rainfall we needed and
so we sit here towards the end of winter coming on spring and we're just praying for rain.
We seem to have made it through. We certainly got a month or two before the
the real rain starts so I don't want to get too excited too soon but I was
extremely worried that we wouldn't get through the winter and it just seems that the underground
water has been enough to to bubble through. So yeah but it is it is real. The drought is real.
Come Gabs. Come. Oh come sweetie. Come Gabby. Nice and peaceful. Come here.
Yes. Is that nice? Is that nice? Okay just waiting to see what Gabby gets up to.
Bobcat's looking for some more interesting stuff to roll around in. Get his scent on.
Gabby's climbing trees. I think he's pretty much almost spent so if I didn't know any better I
would say that Bobcat's probably going to go and try and find somewhere to chill out. Hey sweetie.
It's a beautiful little thicket here. This tree is all drooped over all the dead branches.
Behind there used to be obviously the water source so it was filled with water. It's a really really
nice place to just chill and hopefully she does just that. Gabs. Hey Gab.
Do you have a good time? Good time. Where's your naughty man? Hey. Look at that big belly.
You're meant to be on a diet. Hello boy.
Okay George he's left them there. He's gonna, I think he's heading more
towards that enclosure. I might just open that gate there and let them in there.
Walk almost over huh? I think it was a lovely walk. Look at you. You out of breath big boy?
Okay so we're making our way back now. It's been a lovely walk. Hour and a half
two well rounded lions tired. It's a good opportunity
before we load them is to just say thank you guys for all your support.

spread the awareness to the plight of the lion both in captivity and the wild. Almost there boy.
This was once a wetland so in summer we shouldn't really be able to walk
over this. We will just simply sink. But in winter we can still do that.
So I've decided I'm not going to load them back in the vehicle. I'm just going to actually put them in
an area here that they are used to. I haven't been in it for a while but
so it's also going to be fun and exciting. But it's been a really really good walk.
I get some exercise. So it's not only just about those two and their mental well-being and physical
well-being. It's also about mine. So yeah here we go. Here we go. It might take a little bit of
persuasion. Okay. It didn't really take too long for Gabs. Yeah.
Come get a Bobcat. Oh yeah. Until next time from Bobcat, Gabby and myself. Bye.
