On Monday, May 18th, a newly discovered asteroid called 2026 JH2 will pass Earth at roughly 56,700 miles — about a quarter of the distance to the Moon, and closer than much of the satellite hardware in orbit. The object, estimated at 50 to 100 feet across, was found just days before its arrival, and it is the closest member of an unusually crowded week of flybys, with around eight objects passing inside the Moon's orbit. There is no impact threat. But the discovery timeline raises a bigger question about how much warning we actually get — and what we could do with it.
