A former fortified castle dating from the 13th and 15th centuries, burned down during the Vendée Wars, the Château de la Haute-Guerche is a medieval fortress, now in ruins, located in the French commune of Saint-Aubin-de-Luigné, in Maine-et-Loire.
These imposing and picturesque ruins, nestled in the heart of the Layon hills, whose course it overlooked and once controlled, offer a subject for drawing, and their romantic charm inspired the work of Jacques Bordeaux Montrieux and Marie Boisson today.
