As the PGA Championship brings some of the biggest names in golf to Newtown Square, some residents are finding a unique way to take in the action.
As tournament play at the PGA Championship in Delaware County moves into the weekend,
the crowds and the excitement are expected to ramp up.
And no one knows that better than residents who live right next to the Aronamin Golf Club.
In fact, some of the neighbors have erected their own
viewing stands for a birdie's eye view of the action.
Well, Action News reporter Becca Hedrickson is live in Newtown Square with more.
Hi, Becca.
Hi, Rich. I hear your birdie's eye view, and I raise you a best view by far.
It's right behind me on this scaffolding platform.
It backs right up to the first hole's fairway.
These neighbors out here have been watching all day the best golfers in the entire world,
quite literally in their backyard.
Impressive for Newtown Township.
The wooden steps and benches were built in a few hours.
They did a fantastic job.
Doug Seberski has one of the best views of the first fairway at the PGA Championship.
It was exciting for the last year or so to see the infrastructure go up.
Though he had to rent some scaffolding to see over the temporary fence
separating his Newtown Square home from the course.
We've had tournaments come out before.
It's just a little bit bigger.
It's a major, one of the four majors in the golf season,
and it's brought the best golfers in the world to Doug's backyard.
So he figured, why not give his family and friends somewhere to watch?
The fact that the PGA, we got Rory, Scotty, some of the biggest names coming through.
You know, it is once in a lifetime.
Next door, Adam Molenhop spent the last eight months planning a huge party
for the entire championship weekend for one of his clients.
We have a stage, dance floor, tables and chairs, all sorts of decorations.
And so it's been a big production here.
He's expecting a thousand people to come through over the weekend and says the family who lives
here wanted their guests to have an unobstructed view.
So they built this.
We're used to this fence not being here.
And so when the fence went up, all of a sudden the raised platform,
what we're calling the sky deck had to be built.
Neighbors who live along the course all had the same idea,
though, like the fans on the course, they're trying to keep the party respectful.
The attitude of the neighbors, like it's not going to happen again in our lifetime.
This is not going to happen again in our lifetime.
A once in a lifetime chance for sure.
And two more days of the tournament means two more days of partying for these Newtown
Square neighbors as they invite all of their family and friends in to get some incredible
views of the PGA Tournament for free live here in Newtown Square.
Yeah.
Look like they had some great food and snacks and drinks up there on the sky deck.
What a party.
Great idea.
