Description:
This piece showcases the elegance and splendor of the traditional Chinese clothing hanfu during the prosperous Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE). The term hanfu derives from the Book of Han, which says, "then many came to the Court to pay homage and were delighted at the clothing style of the Han." Beyond the intricate hanfu costuming, the staging of this dance pays homage to the culture of the Tang Dynasty through the Hantang-style choreography, which is a style of dance based on sculptures and paintings from the Han (202 BCE-220 CE) and Tang Dynasties, as well as the use of handmade props that portray traditional Chinese instruments that were popular during the Tang Dynasty and beyond.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of our organization at UC Berkeley, Fei Tian Dancers hosted a grand showcase of cultural heritage on March 11, 2023. With preparation beginning a year in advance in May 2022, AAPI student groups presented a culmination of the past year’s efforts onstage at the “Heritage 传承” showcase. Focusing on Chinese dance & featuring various other traditional Asian art forms, “Heritage 传承” is an artistic representation of the journey of our ancestors as visualized by the diaspora.
