Budget Tourists Flood Mount Tai During China’s May Day — Toilets Completely Overwhelmed

Hello, this is China Deep Dive. We have all the information you need to know about China at present. Today's topic is:
During this year's May Day holiday, besides Mount Emei, Mount Tai also saw a large number of tourists sleeping outdoors. Videos circulating online show many people crammed into public washrooms on the mountain to spend the night, while others paid to rest temporarily in shops or restaurants. According to media reports, a sudden downpour hit Mount Tai in the early hours of May 2nd. Due to limited shelter on the mountain and a large number of tourists, even the restrooms were overcrowded.
A female tourist surnamed “Her” stated that she had planned to climb Mount Tai at night to watch the sunrise, but the sudden rain forced her to descend early. Passing a restroom, she found the sinks and floor packed with people resting; some were sitting, some were lying down, and there was barely any room to step, making it easy to step on someone's head.
A restaurant owner on Mount Tai revealed that due to the high cost of accommodation on the mountain, many tourists choose to spend around $10 to rest in restaurant or hotel lobbies. The usual fee ranges from $9 to $15. For $9, tourists can stay in the lobby until 3:30 AM to wait for the sunrise; however, if they only buy a $2 cup of instant noodles, they can usually only stay for half an hour.
This blogger and her family, although not climbing during the May Day holiday, also encountered the same "$15 per seat" situation. She sighed helplessly, saying that this was probably what they called "asking for trouble."
