So many of you saw that short and asked for a tutorial on how to make this stained glass
effect, and honestly, I don't see a single reason not to make one. But to keep these bookmarks a
little exclusive to my shop, I decided to turn the tutorial into these pendants instead. I designed a
moon and sun version, and they really do look like stained glass without using actual glass.
The main material here is UV resin, and if you're ready to start, let me show you everything I use.
By the way, this video has subtitles translated into many different languages.
I spend a lot of time making them properly translated instead of using automatic subtitles.
Before working with any kind of resin, you absolutely need proper safety protection.
You need a respirator mask with this type of filter. This filter number works for UV resin,
gloves to protect your hands, and an open window nearby. All of that is mandatory.
Next, you'll need a jewelry frame. Mine is this size. I ordered it from AliExpress.
To color the resin, I use alcohol inks. Any brand works. And this is alcohol for
cleaning resin if you accidentally get it somewhere. Under the video, I attached printable
files. These are my coloring guides to help you paint the design. I made them in different sizes
in case your frames are different. You'll need to print the sheet before starting.
The coloring process has two steps, creating the borders and filling them with color. For the first
step, you'll need brown color resin. For the second, I separated the colors for the moon design
and the sun design. And if you only have six colors, that's completely fine. Later, I'll show
you how to mix them and create new shades. We're going to apply the UV resin onto the
sticky side of tape. So first, you need to secure it over the printed design. I use masking tape
for that. It's important to pull the tape in one smooth motion so there are no wrinkles.
Otherwise, they'll stay visible on the stained glass piece. The main sticky tape also needs to
be perfectly smooth. Now, glue the frame along the lines of the drawing and press it down with
your fingers. Here, I'm covering the exposed sticky areas with masking tape so my hands won't
stick to it later. If you don't have a silicone mat, here's a little trick. Place strips of tape
side by side onto your table surface. It becomes a disposable resin safe surface. I'll start with
the sun design. And for this, I tint the UV resin with a few drops of these colors. The first step
is drawing the borders for the colors. Use the sharp side of an orange stick and practice drawing
smooth lines before starting. Once you're ready, move on to the actual design. The UV resin is
liquid so your line may spread out. Cure it under the UV lamp from time to time to lock it in place.
You basically need to create little walls that will later hold the colored resin inside the
sections. So don't be afraid to build the walls up with more resin. In the corners where the sticky
tape and the frame meet, apply extra UV resin to avoid holes or gaps. This will become the structure
of the piece. Once you finish with the brown color, wet a cotton pad with alcohol and clean the orange
stick with it. Here, I'm adding more colors to move on to the painting step. Okay, this is the second
step and there are a few rules here. It's easier to layer than to pour one giant drop so always work
in layers. Pass a lighter over every layer to remove bubbles. After that, cure it under the UV lamp for
10 seconds. So, I made the sun in three layers. Here's how you can mix colors. I'm making a light
orange shade for the rays. I do each ray in two layers. Now, I move to orange and make two more
rays. I mix terracotta with marigold and these will also become rays. Mixing shades makes the
stained glass look much prettier. Different tones add details and charm. Now, I'm moving on to the
sunset reflection in the water and for that I need a blue shade so I add more UV resin. Here, I'm creating
a gradient. I place different colors into different corners, slightly blend them in the center, and then
cure it. In the second layer, the wave is also better in two layers. Just like with the previous wave,
I make the next two the same way. You can always add more colors too and honestly, it only makes
the final result look even better. Okay, the sun is finished. Next, I'll show how I made the moon
version but without talking this time. I'll just add some relaxing music. Once you're done, cure each
pendant under the UV lamp for 15 minutes. Also, cure all leftover UV resin and the orange stick
before throwing them away. Thanks to the masking tape, you can peel everything off without damaging
the printed guide underneath so you'll be able to reuse it again later. Peel the sticky tape
off the paper and cure the pendants from the backside too, just to be safe. They should peel
off the sticky tape very easily. This is what the backside looks like and this is the front. Thank
you so much for watching! Don't forget to leave a like and subscribe so you don't miss the next
tutorial. I also have a Patreon with lots of tutorials for shrink plastic and my other jewelry
plus templates too. I'd be so happy to see you there. The link is in the video description.
