Slow Looking: Conserving Queen Elizabeth II's Christening Robe
Join us for the latest in our Slow Looking series, in collaboration with the Limina Collective. This event will be inspired by our upcoming exhibition, Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style at The King's Gallery, Buckingham Palace. The practice of Slow Looking provides a unique opportunity for us to explore an artwork through the lens of mindfulness. In this event, Lucia van der Drift from the Limina Collective will lead us through a series of relaxing and reflective exercises including meditation, guided looking and journaling. Lucia will also be joined by Textile Conservator Cecilia Oliver, who will share some insights into the scrupulous work involved in conserving one of the highlight pieces of the exhibition, Queen Elizabeth’s II christening dress. Together, our speakers will consider how the meticulous precision involved in conservation work can be considered as a sort of mindful act.
