On August 26, 2021, Marine Captain Geoff Ball was commanding Ghost Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. Captain Ball and his Marines were tasked with managing the massive crowds of Afghans attempting to flee through the airport’s only open entrance, known as “Abbey Gate.”
