Tintoretto: Light, Shadow, Revolution is a short documentary I filmed and narrated in Venice, following the traces of Tintoretto, one of the most radical figures of Venetian painting.

As a guide and art historian, I introduce the painter on location — in Cannaregio, in front of his former home, at Madonna dell’Orto, where he is buried, and above all inside the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, home to his monumental cycle of paintings.

Through close-ups and detailed observation, the film explores Tintoretto’s vertiginous perspectives, dramatic lighting, and sense of movement, drawing visual parallels with cinema — particularly the work of Sergei Eisenstein and Orson Welles.

More than an art historical portrait, this documentary presents Tintoretto as a visionary who transformed painting into a dynamic, immersive experience — centuries before the invention of film.
