Is your backhand dink getting smashed? Use the super slice backhand dink to keep the ball low and push them back off the line to set up your attack
Hi welcome to Primetime Pickleball my name is Jordan Briones and in today's
video we're gonna go over how to hit a slice backhand dink. We've gotten a lot
of requests for this video so here it is hope you enjoy. Talking about the
backhand slice dink I'm just gonna go over a couple of advantages of this shot
okay so when people are dinking cross-court I'm talking about like a
right-hander from the outside to the outside let's just dink a little bit so
so a lot of people would just dink flat and they're just pushing the ball up okay
and this is a good dink it's really consistent but it's going to be a little
bit easier to be it's gonna be easier to attack than the slice backhand dink okay
so some advantages of this shot when I'm hitting this slice is that it stays low
to the ground okay it's a little bit I would say it's a little bit more risky
because you're getting close to the net more close than a regular just push dink
but it has a lot of advantages because it makes it harder to attack and it also
can really back your opponent up off the non-volley zone line because after you
hit this slice backhand dink the ball will stay low and and they're going to
have to decide if they're gonna take these balls out of the air as a volley
or they're gonna let it drop okay and usually a good reply to this backhand
slice dink is another slice dink what I'm gonna do first is I'm going to we're
gonna hit a couple dinks so that you can see and then I'm going to break it down
there we go all right let's break it down now okay so the very first thing
that I want to talk about when you're hitting this shot is positioning
positioning is vital if you want this slice dink to be successful okay so
positioning is the most important thing on the shot so I have to be in position
or else it's going to be very difficult to execute the shot in a in a good
manner okay so as he's hitting me these shots to my backhand I have two options
right I'm either gonna slide step here okay or if he pulls me out really wide
you know this is your last resort but it's okay to cross this foot over and
put some extra slice on it but if he pulls me wide like this and I after I
hit that slice dink I the most important thing is to get back up to your ready
position and ready to guard this middle if he chooses to hit there next okay so
positioning is really important so let's just I want to show you a few more here
okay so I really want to make sure I'm in position when I hit the shot okay as
you can see I'm moving my feet early getting position and I'm not moving and
hitting the ball okay I get in position and then I execute the shot okay so now
let's go through the breakdown of the shot so the very first thing you want to
do after you get in position is you want to load your non-dominant leg okay
so I'm loading my weight okay on my non-dominant leg and as I do that I'm
coming across and what I do because I come from tennis is I hold my paddle in
this position okay so as I load my weight I'm holding my paddle with my
non-playing arm like this and I'm getting ready to to swing through this
ball okay so as I come here load my weight holding the paddle with my
non-playing hand and then as I come through my weight transfer goes across
my body okay it goes from here to here as you as you can see on majority of
these slice dinks your paddle is going to come around your shoulder height okay
so you really want to load your weight and then you're letting go moving through
your body okay the other important thing to note is you could see my wrist
okay this is not a wristy shot and I'm not flicking doing any flicker or just
really fast movements with my hand okay my arm isn't locked okay it's a little
bit bent to my elbow here I'm gonna start here and then my wrist is cocked
and it's stable okay it's going through across my body okay it's really
important that you stay low to the ground to the shot it's very hard to
execute this shot if you're standing straight up so the other thing is you
really want to get low and and I start high and I'm contacting it low I'm going
high to low and across my body so let's do a couple more okay okay there you go
take that as a forehand get into position okay now some you're gonna have
to experiment with this one of the things that you're gonna notice as
you're taking some of these slice backhand dinks is you're gonna have to
let these balls bounce okay so if you're going to if you're leaning in at the
non volley zone and let's say hit me a deeper a deeper ball you can volley
these balls some of these shots you can get in the air but what a lot of players
like to do is they'll let it drop and they're gonna hit the slice dinks so
it's just a much harder ball for your opponent to attack because the ball
staying so low and it has that slice and that spin on it okay so let's see it
again okay loading my weight going through yeah okay good all right so I'm
just making sure that I stay low and also the last thing is I really want to
make sure I'm keeping my eye on the ball through contact and I'm hitting the ball
out in front of me okay I don't want the ball to get way over here if I'm
hitting the ball here my position needs to be here okay so I always want to move
to where the ball is going get into position load my weight come across my
body and then as you can see my my weight from my leg goes to my other leg
as I come across and hit that ball and I'm going back into position so let's
just hit a few more so that I can see okay so some of these some of these I
could actually just take out of the air like that but it's more of a flat shot
this is why it's a hit this super slice dink okay which is going to be a harder
ball for your opponent to handle you've got to step back and and let the allow
the ball to bounce when you hit this shot as you can see I'm taking these
balls really low I'm hitting it like right around here okay and I'm coming
across my body okay so notice my wrist notice my positioning okay and I'm
always coming back to the non volley zone and I want to have to take out of
the air okay okay so this non playing hand it really sets me up in this
position and what I do is I'm just letting go it's just a guide that's all
my left hand is doing okay let's hit that one a little bit okay get in
position I'm getting low look how low I am okay I'm aiming for their backhand
side a little bit higher okay so remember remember those key things okay
so this is a shot that's going to take practice this is a shot that is going to
be a lot less attackable for your opponent but it is a little riskier but
if you get in the groove and you learn how to slice and keep that ball low
you're gonna win a lot more points on your backhand side a lot of people like
to pick on that backhand side go out there and practice this practice getting
that slice keeping that ball low and it will back your opponent up off the line
and cause some errors as they try to decide if they're going to hit it in the
air or off the bounce so thanks so much for watching this video and we will see
