IBD View of Immortality and Eternal Conscious Torment
http://allthingsfulfilled.com/with-what-body-do-they-com/IBD Immortality and Eternal Conscious Torment Collide. Is it possible to consistently hold a view that the wicked endure eternal conscious torment without being unable to die and not subject to death?
Is it true that Adam was unable to receive immortality upon eating of tree of life before death? Why does the IBD view teach two contradictory positions on this point, one saying Adam could eat from the tree of life and live forever before he sinned and another stating that immortality is only available after physical death.
It is taught that had Adam eaten of the tree of life he would receive immortality after his physical death. But if immortality was the condition of not being subject to die and not able to die, why would Adam have to die after eating of the tree of life if it would give him immortality when immortality is defined as the ability to sustain unending physical life?
Is physical life continued through death? Physical life is demonstrated in the Bible as receiving the "breath of God" and become a living being. It is the opposite of physical death which is the separation body and spirit, Jas. 2:26.
If immortality is the inability to die physically, then should not one continue to live physically in death? If not why not? If that is not what immortality is, then it has nothing to do with living forever physically. Why then associate it with the physical body at all?
