Tina/Anastasija vs. Thamela/Victoria - Round of 16 Highlights | Brasilia 2026 #BeachProTour

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour here in Brasilia, where it's now the turn of the women to take center stage here. Dipping short serve to Samoilova, she swings on the right side, cross-court, perfect side out. First serve goes the way of Tamila, comes in strong, finds a sliver of line and squeezes it past the block of Groudina. Samoilova with a very stable reception that time, looks at the court and you can see the way that she physically nods down to take a look at where Victoria is sitting on defense and then it makes for an easy side out for Latvia. Trickle net band ace and the signature celebration for the Latvian women. Great recovery and Brazil get another point here. Going back to Samoilova this time. Sets wide to the antenna and a lovely roll shot over the top. They're trading point for point here, clearing the block of Tamila by less than an inch. Another challenging float serve to the middle. Victoria takes it with confidence and hits it through the block. Groudina again in the right place, starting to tease with her blocking. That was one of those occasions. You can hear a pin drop here now in Brasilia. Passes a bit off the net from Victoria. Nice lift on the set. No challenge system here and we'll have to take their word for it. It's Latvia who take the point. Now Brazil have to focus on siding out but Groudina steps into the line and quietens the home crowd again. Just like that, certainly leading the development, the tactical novelties here in the sport. Samoilova from the right side, cross score with a little bit of help from the tape. Every point, every small break can make a difference with two teams of this caliber. It's a shank pass, ace serve for Tamila. Brazil up by two here. Tamila serving again onto Samoilova. This time she handles it well. Sets a little bit inside. Nice turn back to the line and again the home crowd goes silent as Latvia walks their way back. Brazil now in control. Set number one. Groudina goes over on two. Clean swing cross court and Tamila I think was meant to be covering that cross court. Tried to make a read on a late move to the line. Groudina catches a bit of net so Brazil get their side out and still up by two here. Oh that's going to be an ace serve. Brazilian players with a brisk walk back to the baseline. They want to keep the pace of the game going now they've got the lead. It's Latvia who are under pressure. Samoilova again from the right side over the top. That line shot has been money the entire match. Samoilova has been going back to it almost every single time. Oh it's an ace serve. Tina Groudina gets one back so both teams have no timeouts remaining as we reach the business end of set number one. Tamila running behind taking a good look at the court and that's a great hand over the ball. 19 serving 17. Samoilova this has to be scored. Yes down the line. Did a great job to notice a very late pull from Tamila. Pass is a little bit too tight. Tina Groudina swallows it up and it's 19 all on the scoreboard now. Brazil have lost their cushion. Challenging serve again. What can Victoria do from here? It's a down ball. Groudina now with a chance to set up set point. Oh it's a block for Victoria. Unbelievable. I just love to see it. The defender getting stuck at the net for a crucial point now. Set point for Brazil. Groudina is going to try and keep them alive and she does it perfectly. Just deep breath for Groudina. This serve means so much. It's gonna be Victoria again. Oh she's blocked by Groudina and the crowd is silenced as Latvia turn it around and take set number one. All smiles on their side of the net and an unlikely comeback. Momentum was with Brazil after that block from Victoria. Initiating to try and make the comeback here. Set number two. It's going to be Tamila swinging on the left side. Another huge block from Groudina. Keeps it alive. Second chance for Brazil. Sets a little bit too tight and just like the first set Groudina throws it down every time that set has been too tight. She's had the advantage. She's a very athletic and very aggressive. They're gonna have to work something up here. Latvia have been rock solid inside out. Samoilova. Wow it's an ace serve with the net band again. Victoria went to it early. Samoilova in the last second turned it back a little bit to the seat. Now it's Tamila from the left side. Groudina again with a huge block and her blocking now starting to take control. A very solid step into the angle. Four serving two now. Latvia in control. Oh what a shot. We have our first side switch of set number two. Brazil down by one. Oh that's a brilliant serve right onto the sideline. It's great to be able to see it from this backwards angle where we can see that ball's floating left and then back right just land on the sideline. So challenging for Samoilova to react to it. They stand perfect reception. Cross court hit over on one and it chases on but it's not going to come back. Brazil rewarded. Another very tough serve to the line. Samoilova from way off the net finds an angle. Rips it at the retreating blocker. Latvia doing a great job of fixing tough. They did well to bring it back close to the net or close enough for Samoilova to get the winner. Tamila runs behind. Oh another late move for Groudina and that's why she's one of the best blockers in the world. Look she's ready ready ready and a late move way outside our field of vision and another great block for Latvia. This time Victoria a little bit wide past the antenna and another block for Groudina that was maybe going to land out but oh it's a net band ace. How many are we going to see in this match? Both teams going as flat as they can with the float serve. Push set to the antenna. Victoria goes over the top. Great lift on the ball to avoid the hands of Groudina. Push the ball but that's rarely a call that referees like to make. Tamila letting go of that frustration from the previous point with a big hit cross court. Lines up facing the line and turns and there it is the change of strategy to go back to Groudina and it's successful as they pile on the pressure now and the number two seeds edging closer and closer to a spot in the quarterfinals. Oh I don't believe it. It happens again as Latvia now are just three points away from taking the match and advancing to the next round eliminating the Brazilians in their home tournament. Nice turn in the air from Tamila. Anticipation and reception from both Groudina and Samoilova. Wow through the block with the head it's going to be a free ball now for Latvia. Goes high into the sky and Groudina now over the top. Victoria picks it up. Opportunity for Brazil. Sharp angle. It's not going to come back. Brazil get a very hard earned rally after a shot to the head to Tamila. Sets a little bit tight. Another opportunity for Brazil. Now it's Samoilova with a second chance. Pushes it through the block and now it really is the last chance for extend this match a little bit further. Tamila with a solid perception. She swings from the middle down the line. It's match point for Latvia. It's going to be Groudina swinging from the middle to finish it. Oh what a block for Tamila. Not yet. It's maybe too little too late but what a move into the angle to keep that ball from coming through. Groudina again for the match. Misses long. Went for the swing. Brazil starting to threaten Latvia's lead. Still match point here. Can Groudina finish it? Over the top. Latvia have done it. They survive the comeback that Brazil was putting on. And with really solid composure Groudina plays the shot that was required. Over the top to the line.
