Revere is an award-winning collaboration between the UK National Parks and Palladium.
They can help businesses who've made net zero commitments to access high integrity carbon
credits. The South Downs National Parks worked very closely with Revere over a number of years now.
They bring that expertise of green financing, we bring the ecological landscape and community focus.
Those two together is a powerful thing. Revere spent the last few years running pilot projects
and coming up with a model to scale woodland and peatland restoration projects and some of those
are now ready for investment. The South Downs woodland project is a locally led native woodland
planting project. The core principle is the non-acquisition of land so the South Downs
project works with existing farmers and land managers so that they can benefit from engaging
with nature carbon. We use the woodland carbon code which is a really rigorous standard which
means that companies can make credible claims. The integrity of this project is one of the things
that sets it apart. This project is about woodland creation, it's about linking habitats together,
it's about giving nature that space, that chance to move, those corridors through the landscape.
It's giving that real opportunity to reconnect
those species and those habitats which makes the South Downs and the UK a special place.
The project is ambitious, we've got a target to plant a thousand hectares of native woodland
which over 30 years will remove 200,000 tonnes of CO2 so we're thinking big.
The UK's national parks are really important, they welcome over 100 million visitors a year
and they're living working landscapes as well so if we invest in them and help restore nature in
them it helps all of us in decades to come. These protected areas are a refuge for wildlife,
for biodiversity, they offer great opportunity in increasing nature recovery, climate mitigation.
They're also communities, they've been evolving for thousands of years and that cultural heritage
is intrinsically linked to these special landscapes. The ambition of this project
is really exciting and we're going to make a real difference.
What it needs now is the commitment from companies to engage and help us make it happen.
