Hello and welcome to the Harriet Muller Art Channel, giving you the techniques to produce
amazing artwork. I've had lots of requests for this one and it's a double horse portrait and
they're cuddling and kissing. So all that you need is some plain white paper, a pencil, a pen,
an eraser and your choice of coloured medium. So let's get started. We're going to start off our
first horse with a nice circle just here, just slightly towards the left hand side of the page.
Now I'm going to press very lightly in pencil and please do too because we're going to erase
these. These are our little preparatory lines. So you can draw around something if you don't
want to draw a circle freehand. What I advise doing is watching the whole video through once
and then coming back and then watching it again and then pausing it. So here we're going to be
drawing another circle. This is going to be the other horse. It's going to be further down
and also just ever so slightly bigger than the first circle. So it doesn't have to be perfect
but mine isn't. Just like that. Now we're going to be drawing smaller circles. These are going to
be the muzzles. So I'm just going to put in the eye. Think where the centre of this circle is.
Now just go to the right hand side, just a tiny bit and just draw a little eye. Then coming
downwards I'm going to be drawing the muzzle area and this is going to be another circle,
round about this size, just down here. And then the other muzzle area is going to be further down,
well this one's going to be overlapping the other one. Very similar size. If I go too quickly just
hit pause and rewind. I'm now going to be drawing the front part of the head. So a line coming from
this circle all the way down to this circle. Just like that. And then the underneath of the chin
just coming up like so. And then on this horse we're going to be joining them up.
So one from this circle going directly up to this circle. Let's add an eye for this one.
Now we're going to be adding the ears. So one here it's going to be an isosceles triangle more or
less. Like that. And then the ear on this one just goes slightly further up coming up like this.
Now let's draw the top of the head going upwards all the way up and round. And then now for the
neck. If we start here just drawing the curved line coming around like so. Finish off this horse
so going upwards and then I'm going to be coming all the way up and round.
Neck start here and a nice smooth line there. And then just about here we're going to be drawing
the shoulder. So it's a curved line and then goes down. Last but not least we're going to add the
nose or the nostril. Just draw like a number six there. And then the mouth on this one which is
just a curved line like that. So I'm going to switch to pen but please carry on in pencil.
This is just so that you can see it better on camera. We're going to start off with the eye.
So a line coming downwards takes a turn and goes down like that. Then the underside of the eye
like so. I'm going to colour it in leaving a little bit white just to show the reflection
of the light. I'm going to add some lashes just like that. And draw a line underneath the eye.
And then another line just coming up here. We're now going to start with the jaw. So
just coming all the way around here going upwards like that. Then we're going to come downwards
all the way to about there. We're now going to start the mouth area. So it comes downwards
and then goes across. It's not quite as rounded as that circle that we did before.
Let's add in the mouth. There we go. I'm going to draw one line going up like that.
And then we're going to do this nostril here. Nice big number six. I'm going to colour in the
bottom bit just like so. Come around here up like this. And then following on from here we're going
to come upwards. Here we're going to be drawing a line which goes down the centre of the head.
All the way to there and then another line coming around like so. One here and one down like this.
So let's carry on this one till you get to about there. Let's do the ear now. Add some detail
all the way down. This is going to be in shadow so I'm just colouring it in.
Now I'm going to add the forelock. That's the fringe. Lots of wispy lines.
And then the rest of the mane.
I'm now going to speed this up because there's a lot of mane here.
Right now we're going to carry on with the neck. So this comes down here.
The shoulder area. A big muscly shoulder coming down like so. A line here and one more line going
all the way down here. Now for the other horse. We're going to start off with the eye.
So just where we put it before. And then an eyelid and then it comes round like this.
And then you can't see the majority of the muzzle. The mouth. There's a line here and a line there.
So up here. We're just going to visit up here. Line across. A line comes to the underside
like that. And then from here it's going to go to about there.
Then another one for the neck. Stop just there. We're going to follow this circle that we did
before. There we go. Now for the ear. Just drawing some furry lines. There we go. Now
the forelock on this one. And then all the way to the neck. Going to be starting a line just here.
Curves round. It's really important to show all the muscles. Now I'm just going to show the top
of the mane because the mane's falling on the other side. Make it look a bit wiggly. A couple
of lines. Now let's add in the other ear. You see the tip of it on the other side.
And this horse's other ear which goes behind here and behind there. Okay now if you haven't
gotten over it in pen, go over it in pen and then erase all the pencil marks. So this is what it
looks like without all the pencil marks. You can stop here or if you want we can colour it in. So
I've actually got my watercolours and I'm just going to show you how I'm going to colour it in
very quickly. And I'm using lots of browns. I mixed some yellow ochres with some cadmium yellows
and we're going to see what it produces. So here's the finished painting of some horses
giving each other a little hug. So if you've enjoyed it, I have a whole playlist of horses
so check it out now.
