Released in 1959, Sleeping Beauty is Walt Disney’s 16th animated feature film and stands as one of the most ambitious and visually distinct projects in the studio's history. Based on the classic fairy tale by Charles Perrault, it was the final fairy tale produced by Walt Disney himself.
The film follows Princess Aurora, who is cursed at birth by the slighted dark fairy, Maleficent. The curse decrees that on her 16th birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die. To protect her, three good fairies—Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather—hide her in the forest, but destiny eventually leads to a deep sleep that can only be broken by "true love's kiss."
