Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus originates from Sakamoto himself.
In his words: "The project was conceived as a way to record my performances - while I was still able to perform - in a way that is worth preserving for the future."

Directed by Neo Sora, Opus was filmed over eight days from September 8th to 15th, 2022, and presents twenty career-spanning pieces that wordlessly narrate his life through his music.
The producers decided to present a separately edited, condensed “streaming version” as a way to give Sakamoto’s fans around the world an early peek into what the concert would become. This became “Playing the Piano 2022,” a limited online concert streaming event that took place on December 10th/11th, 2022.

Over the next several months, Sora and his team, along with Sakamoto, continued to refine and perfect the sound and image of the concert that Sakamoto intended, with the full setlist in his chosen order. This is what became the final official film, Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus.
