Wow, I am not cool enough to wear these.
90s Calvin Klein meets Upper West Side Wedding.
The construction is amazing.
You need to be able to walk people.
It doesn't need pockets.
Okay, this is full on drama in the best way.
The new Vogue collection has landed.
Gorgeous day wear and special occasion pieces
plus some really good vintage reissues this time.
It's a masterclass in unique construction
with high-end finishes,
including designer dupes for Alaia,
Me and Em, Caroline Herrera, Netta Porter, and more.
Grab a drink and find a comfy seat
and join me as I dive into the collection.
I'm sharing my totally unfiltered first reactions,
the patterns I love, the ones that surprised me,
and a few that made me raise an eyebrow.
With statement dresses, easy wearable pieces,
and perfect vintage reissues,
there's a lot to swoon over in this collection.
Before we jump in, I have to say a huge thank you
to everyone who helped me hit 7,000 subscribers.
Coming back to YouTube after such a long break,
I wasn't sure if I would find my people,
but I'm so pleased you're here.
And if you're new to the channel,
why not subscribe and help us reach 10,000?
That sounds so silly to say.
I have so much planned for this year.
Now, back to the patterns.
Vogue 2172 is a dress with sleeve and length variations.
This one's a really polished midi dress
that's nicely fitted in the bodice.
I really like under bust gathers, don't you?
And a short, clean little collar stand
that gives it a tailored feel.
You've got an invisible zip at the front.
This is the new version
of the exposed zipper front dress trend
that we saw last year, so now using invisible zips.
It has very cool seam lines with contrast topstitching
that draw the eye down the body,
and then the skirt gently flares out.
There are godets added for a bit of controlled swish,
which is always fun.
And the short sleeves are sort of softly shaped
for a very refined look.
Oh, and it has side seam pockets.
It's actually a great dupe
for the me and M topstitch midi dress,
which has four rows of topstitching per seam,
which would be a lot more work to add in.
Vogue 2173 is a draped neckline midi dress.
This is such an elegant, dramatic piece.
It's a fitted lined midi dress with a sleeveless body
and an empire waistline, which I don't normally sew up,
but it looks really great here.
The skirt is slim with a back slit, very important.
You need to be able to walk, people.
But the real star here is that neckline,
a scoop front with a bias cut drape
that's pleated at the shoulders
to create a really deep, gorgeous cowl.
This would be perfect for an event,
especially in a zesty green color like this.
I could also see it in plain black crepe for a work piece
if you're in a formal office setting.
Vogue 2174 is a fit and flare midi dress by Badgley Mischka.
This is your classic fit and flare,
but with a bit of extra structure.
It's actually cut on the cross grain
because of the unusual large pattern pieces.
And the bodice is quite tailored
with a deep V neckline and short sleeves.
I think the shoulder pads in there as well
for a bit of shape.
And honestly, it's a really interesting construction.
I've never seen anything like this.
Here's a sneak peek at the pattern pieces
where the front pleats are formed
as the princess seams come together.
Oh, really cool.
It fits closely through the bust
and then flares out into the skirt with those box pleats.
So you get controlled volume at the hem
and it's very crisp, fully lined of course.
And yeah, pockets are included as well.
Vogue 2175 is a halter maxi dress.
This one gives me 90s Calvin Klein
meets Upper West Side Wedding.
It's a lined fit and flare maxi
with princess seams at the front and back for shaping.
And then a high halter neckline
sort of fits around the throat
with a narrow V at the front.
There's lovely button and loop details
plus a under flap for coverage, which is a smart touch.
Very refined for a formal event
plus petite adjustment lines.
Vogue 2176 is a Rachel Comey midi dress.
This is my absolute favorite from the collection.
I love Rachel Comey
and this dress has her same relaxed but put together vibe.
It's got a deep V neckline and those soft sleeves
that kind of frame the shoulders really nicely.
The bodice is pleated into a raised waist
and there's a self-tie at the back
so you can adjust the fit.
Easy, breezy, still elevated.
I have some lovely bright linen fabric in my stash
perfect for this pattern
and I can't wait to sew up a version for spring and summer.
Vogue 2177 is a strapless column gown with back bow.
Okay, this is full on drama in the best way.
It's a slim fitting strapless column gown
with an empire waist
and then it's a pleated bust bodice.
Got all the internal structure there too,
boning, interlining, gripper tape
so it actually stays put.
The skirt is floor length
but the real moment is that back bow
that flows into a court length train.
It's reinforced too so it holds its shape
and honestly, isn't this red carpet worthy?
It's a good interpretation
of the Caroline Herrera taffeta gown.
The bust detail is draped on the Herrera
instead of pleated
but I like the bow better on the Vogue.
What do you think?
Vogue 2178 is a halter gown by Badgley Miske.
Another really elegant gown from the designer
this time with a pearl trim halter neckline.
Couldn't you see this on Gossip Girl?
The bodice is softly pleated or gathered through the bust
and finished with trim, both the neckline and the waist.
Just enough detail without being over the top.
I mean, maybe pearl trim is over the top, I don't care.
It's fitted through the bodice
and then flares out at a fishtail hem
which gives that lovely movement at the bottom
and as you would expect, it's fully lined,
has an invisible zipper.
What more can I say?
I love the yellow as well.
2179 is a bow blouse
and I'm very excited about this one
because it's similar to a piece
from one of my favorite designers.
This is one of those pieces that feels simple
but really elevated
and it's softly structured with elbow-length sleeves,
button placket, and then that statement bow
sitting right at the collarbone.
You could easily dress this up and down.
It works just as well for daytime
as you could make a smart polished version for nighttime.
It also has the petite adjustment lines
which I love as a short lady.
It's giving me the same vibes
as the Lena Hoštěk bow blouse
but with a different style of bow
but you could probably tweak the pattern pieces
and play with fabric choice
to have a softer, fuller, rounder bow
like the Inspiration.
Vogue 2180 is a sheer blouse and camisole set.
If you love a bit of drama in your sleeves,
this is the one for you.
It's a semi-fitted blouse designed just for sheer fabrics
with a dual neckline, front buttons.
The sleeve are elbow-length
but then they extend into these beautiful,
cascading flounces that take them
to a three-quarter length sleeve.
Very floaty but also an interesting construction.
The sleeves are made from large, rounded flounce pieces.
One of them's an entire circle
and they're finished with teeny baby hems
also known as designer hems,
a great skill-boosting technique.
They have a video tutorial for that too.
You also get a bias-cut camisole included,
which is helpful if you don't want to flash everybody.
Vogue 2181 is a peplum jacket.
Peplums are back, apparently.
This jacket is all about structure and shape.
It's got really clean tailoring, simple seams
paired with a dramatic flared peplum
that gives you instant waist definition.
The self-covered fabric buttons
keep everything looking cohesive
and it's one of those pieces
that just sort of elevates what you wear with it.
I think it would look really cool
with jeans, skirts, evening looks.
But it doesn't need pockets.
I would personally skip the welts.
Who's with me?
Vogue 2182 is a set of bolero jackets.
These cute little cropped boleros
have raglan sleeves and interesting seams.
You've got two options.
One is fully lined with rhinestone trim at the neckline
if you want some sparkle.
Here it's shown paired with Vogue 2175
from the beginning of the video.
And the other, unlined version,
has fewer seams, self-bias binding,
perfect for a simple finish and sheer fabrics.
Both closed with like a hook and eye at the neckline.
Nice and simple.
V2183 is a spiral skirt.
Wow, can you believe this skirt?
It's reminiscent of a very special designer too.
It's got an asymmetric spiral ruffle
that creates a fluid flowing shape
plus a contoured waistband so it sits nicely.
The contrast topstitching adds a bit of interest
and it fastens with an invisible side zip.
The construction is amazing.
It's an underskirt and then a spiral flounced ruffle
attached on top.
Here's a sneak peek from the instructions.
And it's a great choice if you're a fan of Aliyah's
asymmetric ruffled tiered denim skirt.
The Vogue has a waistband, which I prefer.
I think it's more wearable that way.
But the Aliyah skirt has pockets somehow.
I don't know how they manage that pattern cutting mastery.
And I'd call the shape of the Vogue ruffles frothier.
Vogue 2184 is a ponty knit miniskirt.
It's a really modern sculptural skirt.
Ponty's comfy but still structured.
The paneling shapes the waist and hips
and then it drops into this dramatic handkerchief hem
for a bit of flair.
Super easy to style, works with fitted tops,
oversized shirts.
Don't have much to say about this one.
It's very cool and nice.
But I'm not a big fan of wearing knits or skirts.
So I won't be sewing this one myself.
How about you?
Vogue 2185 is a basque waist pleated pant.
This is a statement trouser.
They've got a high-waisted basque corset effect.
And then that's stiffened for structure
so you get a really sculpted fit through the waist and hips.
And then below that, the pants release
into very wide flowing legs, very dramatic.
And yes, pockets are included.
Plus an invisible zip to get in and out of these.
They really surprised me when I saw this pant set.
I can see someone incredibly cool making a pair.
I am not cool enough to wear these, that's for sure.
They're a bit like a pair I saw on Annuli by Rukh Salamud.
They've got really interesting shapes.
What do we think?
The similarities.
Vogue 2186 is a relaxed crop top
and slouchy pant by Rachel Comey.
Another one for the Rachel Comey cool girls.
This is your perfect throw on off-duty set.
The top is cropped with boxy, slightly utilitarian feel.
The trousers are the main attraction though.
They sit high on the waist.
They've got this cool structured button front fly.
And then they go into more of a relaxed slouchy wide leg.
There's an adjustable tab at the back too
so you can tweak the fit and wear together
for a coordinated look or split them up.
Both pieces are super versatile.
Vogue 2187 is described as a wrap front shirt
and wide leg pants.
This set has a really interesting twist.
That shirt is oversized and tunic length
with extended shoulders that create little cap sleeves.
And then there's this wrap panel
that comes from the back and ties at the front.
Unlike anything I've ever seen before,
the trousers, I mean,
I would probably call them Bermuda pants.
Would you?
They're cropped, wide leg with darts, a fly front
and then an elasticated back, which is very comfy.
Now, I'm not picking this one up,
but I did have a peek at the instructions
to see how that top comes together.
Vogue 2188 is a structured top
with tie belts, shorts and pants.
It's a really tailored modern suit that I can get behind.
The top is double breasted with lapel collar,
angled cap sleeves, shaped hem,
plus a little slim tie belt to pull everything together.
Gorgeous.
You can pair it with either wide leg trousers
or Bermuda shorts.
And both have pleats, extended waistbands,
clean front zips.
There's a piece by Meshki,
the Adina short sleeve linen top,
which has a similar look,
but it's only got one button
and it's more peplum shaped, I think.
But there's some similar vibes there.
I really want to see someone sew this up.
V2189 is a kaftan dress.
This is your standard floaty statement kaftan.
It's got an empire seam at the front,
big A-line maxi skirt with inverted pleats,
lace trim, and those big bishop sleeves
with elasticated cuffs.
The back has a wide opening with ties,
plus an elasticated panel for a bit of shape.
There's also a deep V at the front
with an optional modesty panel.
You could wear this as lounge wear
or turn it into a going out dress, I suppose,
depending on if you picked your fabric wisely.
V2190 is a men's relaxed suit.
I won't linger on this one.
It's really wearable, relaxed cuts.
The blazer is double-breasted, wide lapels,
multiple pockets, and slightly relaxed shoulders
for an easy feel.
Trousers are classic, got fly front,
belt loops, welt pockets.
It's nice.
V2191 is a vintage cowl neck dress
and belt by Diane Von Furstenberg.
God, don't you love DVF?
I really enjoy the non-wrap dress patterns in her range.
This is such a gorgeous vintage reissue.
It's from 1981, and it's very loose-fitting.
It's a pullover dress with classic blouson shape
because of the bodice being cut on the bias
and then an elasticated waist.
You've got soft cowl neckline at the front,
short kimono sleeves,
and then a relatively straight skirt
that can be either below the knee or full maxi length.
It comes with a cute coordinating fabric belt
finished with D-rings to pull the whole look together.
It just looks so comfy,
but made in tomato red silk,
it's definitely a bit more polished than that.
Vogue 2192 is a vintage dress and jacket,
a really lovely 1967 two-piece set.
I like the short jacket that's neat and structured,
and underneath the sleeveless dress
is semi-fitted, slim skirt,
a bodice that's gathered into a high waist seam.
That was so popular in the 1960s.
It's finished with a front band and button detailing
and a self-belt.
Very cute.
V2193 is a vintage wrap dress.
Are you as excited about this one as I am?
A timeless wrap dress from 1985.
That's just so wearable.
I love the illustration in stripes,
so I think I might copy that.
It falls anywhere from mid-calf to just below the ankle
with a close-fitting bodice, a defined waistband.
It also has pockets, we love to see it,
and a nice narrow hem.
Keeps everything neat and streamlined.
A great reissue.
Vogue 2194 is a vintage straight skirt set.
It's the last one here, but not the least.
This is a very versatile 1986 skirt pattern
with multiple length options.
It's got a classic straight silhouette
with waistband, back zip, and back vent
for ease of movement.
Some views include pockets, others have belt loops.
You can sort of mix and match everything together
to get the perfect skirt that you need.
It's kind of a useful wardrobe staple.
There you have it, the newest designs from Vogue
featuring cool construction, dazzling details,
and some out-there silhouettes.
