Here I am, coming out of the jungle where I learned to swing like Tarzan from limb. Actually,
I didn't do that. You know that I didn't do that. Hi, Bob Kurtz here. Golf's Iron Man,
holder of seven world records, and I'm here to teach you the game of golf. We're assuming that
you're a beginner or you just started or you're getting back to the game. Regardless, we're going
to teach you the second part of these lessons, and this is how to swing the golf club. Now,
you've seen Happy Gilmore. Well, do not swing like Happy Gilmore. Don't run. Happy Gilmore.
Maybe I ought to be Happy Gilmore more often. That was a really nice drive right up there.
Have you seen Adam Sandler and the Happy Gilmore movies? Happy Gilmore and Happy Gilmore 2?
Well, if you haven't, go see them. They're good comedies. In fact, golf has been the source of
some great movies. Caddyshack. We're going to talk about Caddyshack in the next episode because
there's a fabulous scene there. Also, 10 Cup with Kevin Costner and Rene Russo. You need to watch
Happy Gilmore and 10 Cup and Caddyshack. I've got a couple other movie reviews for you. I like
movies. I actually have a degree in film from Northwestern. So, I'm going to show you how
Happy Gilmore and Kevin Costner and Bill Murray help make you a golfer. So, let's get started
talking about the swing. The swing has two parts, just like your body. Your body has two parts,
the upper part, the lower part. We're going to talk about the upper and the lower. In other words,
let's think about your belt. That's one half the swing, the upper half, and the lower half.
Most bad swings use the upper body providing the power. That's wrong. Then they use the lower half
to start the swing. So, they go like this. So, a bad swing would be lower body starts the swing,
upper body finishes the swing. Take a look at how this would look. Upper body and then
how many times have you seen that swing? Just over and over again.
Here's what we're going to do. We're going to change that and you're going to change that
because you're going to become an excellent golfer. You're going to change that. You're
going to begin the swing with the upper body, the shoulders, and turn away. Look how nice that looks.
But then when you get here at the top of the swing, the lower body leads. So,
the upper body would turn and the lower body will lead and then you hit the ball. Well, that's
simple. 90% of golfers don't do that. They lead with the lower body and then swing with the upper
body. We're going to do it the right way. Turn with the upper body and hit it with the lower
body. You hit the ball with the legs. The arms and hands just follow. So, it's take away upper body,
strike it with the lower body. If you do that, if you work on that together with the fundamentals
that we've taught you, you're going to jump ahead of everybody else and you are on your way to
becoming quite a good, good, good golfer.
