We're on the Clark Fork River, just north of St. Regis in Montana.
There's a little trail here that stretches up. The trail's about 9 miles long.
And I wanted to start from the other end, but the Clark Fork River is raging right now.
And they've closed a ferry landing for flooding.
Some of the benches were underwater already.
We're at least going to put our packs on and go down the trail and see if we can do it.
We're about to find out how much of this we can hike.
We're headed down towards the river here.
So far the trail is just gorgeous.
The water hasn't stopped us, but it's close. It's close to this trail.
Well, this is no good.
And the trail goes right on the edge of the river here around that steep part.
And I'm pretty sure it's underwater.
Let's keep going and check it out.
Well, we got skunked on the trail, like I thought.
Too steep to go around.
There's an old road cut that comes down to the power lines back there.
We'd have to get past the power lines and over that knob and drop down, all bushwhacking.
Yeah, I don't like it.
I think we're skunked this time. I think maybe we'll walk down the road the other way.
And maybe just find a place to camp for the night.
Stay here one night anyway.
Early season problems.
Found this other trail, which I thought was a game trail.
Kind of going along the river here.
But it's definitely more than that.
Seen a couple cut logs.
Okay, we're on the move.
Gonna hike this trail back that I hiked in on.
Then I'll take that back to the road.
Back past my truck.
And then we're up towards those power lines.
Okay, I've met up with the main trail.
Plan is to go up to the power lines.
If there's a spot. If there's not, then we'll just call it good.
Had a great night last night, so I'm pretty happy about that.
We're going up.
Away from the power lines.
Gonna go take the lower power line road.
Beautiful day now. All the clouds are gone.
Well, I am on my way back to the truck.
It's a bummer.
But the Clark Fork won.
A little too early in the season for it.
