So I need to make this room into my dream home library.
It feels quite far from it at the moment.
Hello friends, this is the start of a video taking you along the journey making this
into my dream home library and office. I've got the space now, I just need to do it.
Just, I have the opportunity to have my dream home library, my dream office space.
I actually need to figure out what I want to do with it. That's where we're starting.
I can't make this decision, please, I can't make this decision.
We're starting in a place where I'm going to be honest, I don't know.
I don't know the vibe, I don't know the colours, I don't know where things are going to be.
I don't know what we're going to do. We are currently sleeping in here,
we are currently painting our bedroom, which I'm doing a video for.
But we're going to move on to painting here in a couple of days.
I need to at least figure out paint. Paint.
But yeah, this room by the end of this video is going to be my dream library.
The one thing I do know, bookshelves along this back wall and probably into this corner here.
I know that much.
Welcome on the journey.
If we can do this together.
I'm terrified, I feel like everyone always dreams of having like a room for books.
But now I need to actually do it and like make it into my dreams.
So come along with me.
Today, like I say, okay, let's start the video.
Let's figure out some paint.
So excited.
Let's go have a look at Pinterest.
Let's go figure out the vibe a little bit.
I think that's where we need to start.
And then we'll paint the room, then we'll get bookshelves made,
then we'll decorate it, yada yada, all of that ----.
But we need to begin with figuring out what vibe I actually want this room to be.
Let's have a look at bookshelves.
Let me explain what I don't want.
I don't want irregular, like this ----.
Because I think these bookshelves are made for people who don't have books, is my opinion.
Like, oh, this.
What the **** is this?
I don't want this.
I don't want irregular, um, holes.
I don't know what the word is.
I don't want that.
Because I want, like, I have a lot of ******* books.
And I want just, like, shelves of uniform shelves of books.
Number two.
Let me find an example.
I don't think I want to go dark with the colour.
Now, I'm undecided on whether, well, I think the budget is going to decide whether it ends up being.
I've had meetings with a few carpenters.
I've started this video a bit later than I wanted to.
I've got another meetings.
Carpenters have come around to give me a quote, but none have actually given me a quote yet.
They've just come around.
A lot of them typically do this with MDF, which is, like, a cheaper wood that we would then paint over.
Now, part of me does prefer, like, a wood shelf.
We'll get onto that in a second.
But if I do paint it, I don't think I want it to be, like, I think I want it to be a natural colour.
Right?
I think I want it to be, like, orangey or brown.
I don't want green.
I don't want blue.
I don't want pink.
Like, I want it to look fairly natural.
And I don't think I want the room to feel dark as a whole.
Some libraries and some offices, I don't know if there's an example on here.
I think Pinterest is now giving me more of what I want.
But some feel, like, very dark and cosy, which is a nice vibe for reading in.
But I'm also going to be working in there.
So I want it to feel brighter.
I want it to feel brighter.
I've made a little shelf.
There's literally, like, oh, wrong thing.
There's literally, like, six pins on it.
This was more to show him that I wanted uniform shelves in this one.
I think I really like this kind of brown 70s with pinks and reds.
Similar to kind of my, like, YouTube header.
Or, like, I use these colours a lot.
Kind of 70s palettes of oranges and browns and reds and pinks.
I think that I want it to be the vibe overall.
But ideally, I think, I mean, I would, I think I would love the shelves to be wood.
Like, wood shelves.
But that might be too expensive.
That might be, like, I think that could more than double the price of getting this done.
And so I have to be realistic.
We'll see what we can do.
I think I prefer that vibe.
I think I prefer a wood vibe.
But the wood has to be bright.
I feel like the wood could also go very wrong.
Which is a risk, right?
I feel, sorry, this lamp down here is really making me look quite orange.
So yeah, I think that's where I'm at.
I want that colour scheme.
I think the paints, we're using all Lick paints.
I think for the non-accent wall, so basically every other wall and ceiling,
I'm going to stick with Taupe 3,
which is what we've used on our neutral walls in the bedroom.
And I really, really like it.
And I think having some cohesion between the rooms is a good thing.
Basically, not any wall that isn't the bookshelf wall, I think will be this.
And then we're going to do Taupe 2,
like, which, you know, is basically just a lighter version of this,
on the skirting boards and on the door.
And then I think, I think if I have to paint the bookshelf,
I'm either going to go with, I think this is my favourite.
I just worry about how it would look in reality.
But orange O2, I like.
Mid-warm orange with a touch of brown.
I feel like that's more brown to me.
That's less orange.
Or there's brown O2.
I basically feel like maybe I want a colour between these.
So maybe we have to make a custom colour instead of going with Lick,
if we have to paint.
I mean, we're going to have to paint some of the walls
because it's not all going to be filled up with bookshelves.
So we are going to paint some of the walls.
But I almost want, we're going to get samples of these today.
Tom's mum is going to get samples of these today.
And I'm going to see how I feel about them in the space.
But I think that's where I'm at.
I think we've got the vibe, this,
but keeping it also like bright and light and lots of lamps again.
And like, yeah, I want it to feel cosy, but not dark.
But I want to keep it bright to work in.
Seasonal affective disorder, guess you girl.
And so I want, I don't want to feel like a dark room,
but I do want it to feel cosy for reading in.
At least we have an initial plan.
I feel a little bit better about everything.
Okay, painting of the library is beginning today.
Well, I think it's going to be in today.
First, we're having to remove wallpaper
because we did not realise there was wallpaper.
I don't know how we didn't realise.
I thought the walls were painted, but no, it's wallpaper.
So we're currently removing that and then painting will begin.
I have decided on the colours.
So again, taupe 3 and taupe 2 for the walls and then the skirting boards.
And then I've decided on orange 02 for the book wall.
Three days later.
Um, yeah.
Well, they're speechless.
Here's the thing, this room has caused us some trouble.
Okay, let me take you through it.
So these side walls, which actually, these are looking pretty good.
These are looking pretty good.
Look, wardrobes, these are looking pretty good.
We had to remove the wallpaper and then we decided to prime all the walls.
So we've got this primer and this back wall here that you'll see.
It only has one coat on it right now.
I think a lot of these other walls have two,
but other paints didn't look like this with one coat.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
So this is the red wall, was the red wall.
When you're putting the primer on this, the red, there was no wallpaper,
but the red was like bleeding.
Like you'd apply the primer and your brush would turn pink.
Because the, and even earlier, I think when they were sanding it or whatever,
the red was just bleeding.
Now, most of this is probably going to be covered up for bookshelves anyway.
So it's not going to be visible, but we are just painting it anyway,
so that it is painted.
Yeah, it's proving tricky.
I'm sorry I didn't film any B-roll of this room being painted yesterday.
I'm still so ill with this chest infection that's been going on for two weeks.
I'll be fine by the time this video is posted in like two months or something.
I'm, I'm having doubts.
I'm having concerns.
It looks a bit like ----.
Looks a bit like doo-doo.
Girl, a shitty mess.
Like, is this the correct paint color?
I'm going for like a 70s vibe, but I'm concerned.
I'm going to try and trust the process, right?
I'm going to try and trust the process.
I'm going to believe that it'll all look a lot better when everything's done
and it'll all come together.
My vision will come together.
But am I concerned?
Yes.
It's something about this wall is just like rejecting everything.
This means I am glad because like there are some people that when I did the tour video
are like, we should have made this our master bedroom and the other room
are my library or made the dining room my library.
I'm glad that this wall is going to be covered up with bookshelves
and we don't need to figure out what to do with it.
This room makes sense to be my library because the big wall is opposite the window,
whereas the lighting's funny in that room.
It would've been like a lot more work to turn that into my office.
And listen, we have the best painters in the internet
and Tom's brother has done an amazing job.
But I just think this wall is rejecting everything.
I'm a bit scared.
And I'm also just scared about the color choice.
Like, have I made a mistake?
Have I chosen the wrong color?
Remains to be seen.
I guess we will find out together.
Oh, we had a carpenter in.
That's another update who I think I'm going to work with.
But I thought he was going to make them in wood, but it's this MFC vinyl board.
And so I need to do some research today whether I'm okay with that
or whether if I want real wood, it's going to be so like real solid oak.
It will be so expensive.
It will probably be like four grand.
I don't have that kind of money.
So I need to do some research today on that.
It looks a bit like ----, doesn't it?
I'm hoping when it's done it'll look better.
I'm a bit concerned.
Hello, how are you all doing?
I'm just popping in quickly.
We're obviously not in the room, but I was just using an app
and I realized this is my first like home-ish kind of video in a while.
I need to tell you about this.
I should tell you about it for you, not for me, for you.
If you are in the UK and you have a mortgage, you need Sprive.
Okay, this is not an ad.
I think this is an affiliate code, but I don't know what I get out of it.
I know what you get out of it by using the code,
but I have no idea what the benefit is to me.
That's not why I'm doing it.
I'm doing it because basically we have no money to overpay on our mortgage, right?
We're like getting bookshelves installed.
We're buying furniture.
We have no money, no spare money to be overpaying on a mortgage.
But Sprive is this amazing app where you can spend money
that you're already spending on so many different providers,
be that like your grocery shop at Tesco or Sainsbury's or Morrison's or M&S,
or like you're buying something on Amazon,
or you're going to Miller & Carter on my birthday.
We did buy my birthday meal through Sprive when we went to Miller & Carter,
or you're going to Harvestal, you're going to Nando's,
or you're buying a Virgin Experience Day thing.
You can buy it through the Sprive app and earn cash back
and then use that to overpay on your mortgage.
It doesn't feel like it should be real.
It doesn't feel.
So we've already overpaid a bit on our mortgage
through just buying stuff through Sprive,
and we need to get better at it.
Sometimes we buy something, we're like,
that was on Sprive, B&Q.
Many B&Q visits have been wasted and not gone through Sprive.
But you need to...
I'm not kidding, right?
It's like the secret.
If you have a mortgage in the UK, you need to get on Sprive.
So I have a code.
I'll put it on the screen and in the description.
My code is OBDWN4YN.
Very catchy.
But that will get you Sprive Plus for free,
which I think is like boosted cash back rates,
and being a chance to win your next mortgage payment.
Like I say, this ain't an ad.
I'm a genuine user.
The amount we've spent on Sprive, just on my account as well,
because Tom has a separate account,
but it says if I spent that much every single month,
we'd be on track to save £23,000 in interest savings
and take two years and one month off our mortgage term.
What the hell?
So yeah, this isn't an ad.
I'm a genuine user.
I think this is magic
because we're not going to be able to overpay for a long time.
But yeah, I just feel like I need to do a public service announcement.
Not an ad.
I have no idea what I get out of you.
It's not clear.
I don't know if I get anything if using that affiliate code.
Please do in case I do.
Please don't just download the app.
You get stuff out of it.
I'm not using it as a code.
But yeah, anyways, let's get back to the bookshelves
that I just feel like I needed to issue a public service announcement because...
What the hell?
This is crazy.
Okay, so it's actually been a long time since I showed you the room.
I just realised, but the bookshelves are getting fitted tomorrow.
So apologies, I've just been to the beach,
so I don't know really what I look like.
But let me show you this room.
Are you ready?
You ready?
I'm ready.
You said that with some determination.
I'm ready.
Okay, whenever you're ready.
I'm ready.
Okay.
I'm ready.
Whenever you're ready.
Okay, the sun is setting.
Also, so F3.
So I don't know how good the lighting is, but here it is.
I no longer think it looks like ----.
I think it's beautiful.
This is the room.
This again is the same colour on our walls and ceilings.
Now, hang on, let's go this way.
The sun.
Give me energy, please.
Give me joy.
Give me hope.
Give me...
Yeah, it's the same colours on the kind of non-accent walls and ceilings
as the bedroom to kind of keep the cohesion going.
And it's a very like...
Once it's on and once it's on the whole room,
I don't think you kind of blend in well,
but it's actually such a cool, warm, neutral.
It has this very cosy feeling.
And then we're calling this the Scooby-Doo colour.
No, here's the thing.
It's mostly going to be covered up.
I think the bookshelves are going to start about here
and then go all along this wall and into the corner,
which I'll show you in a second.
So a lot of this lovely colour is going to get covered up,
but they wanted to paint it, so, you know.
But let me show you over here.
Yeah, the bookshelves are going to go into this corner.
But over here, we've got these shelves painted,
the colour as well, which I really like.
I think this might be like my immediate TBR area.
These shelves, I think, would be like,
what's next on the docket?
Like I said, the bookshelves are being fitted tomorrow.
Let me see if I can get all this in frame.
Okay, that's all of it in frame.
So the bookshelves are going to go up to the coving up there.
So you see where it kind of comes down,
there's a line up there.
Look at this line.
Put the line up there.
That's where the bookshelves are going to go up to.
Look, I'm going to have super tall bookshelves.
I'm going to have super tall bookshelves.
Holy ----.
She's huge, but she's so beautiful.
She's a mammoth, of course.
So yeah, I'm very excited.
I am nervous about tomorrow because I'm like,
you know, have I made the right wood decision?
Have I, is it going to be everything that I dreamed it would be?
But I love the room and I've barely been in here obviously
because there's nothing in here.
But when I walk by it and I see the light in this room
at different times of day, it gets such amazing light
because it's quite high up and it's south facing.
So it just gets such great light.
And I just feel like the vibes in here are going to be immaculate
once we get it all done.
It's exciting.
I'm getting my dream bookshelves made.
I think I'm going to have to get a ladder.
You know, like a ladder I can pull along so I can get up to books.
How cool will that be?
It's a shame though to cover up this colour.
I do really like it.
I wonder whether we'll have to use it somewhere else.
I don't know where else we'll use it.
Anyways, yeah, I just wanted to show you the room
before we get the bookshelves in.
But yeah, I'm very excited.
I'm very excited.
I can't believe it.
It's happening tomorrow.
Hello, hello.
I have an update to give.
So I was choosing the wood.
I know I've been speaking a lot about like real wood versus MDF.
The carpenter I'm going with, it's not MDF but it's not solid oak.
I can't remember what the name of it is.
It's kind of like MDF, right?
But it'll look like wood.
We're not gonna have to paint it a colour.
It's gonna have an appearance of a wood, like a wood grain to it.
Is that the right word?
So I was looking at his samples.
He has like all these books of samples.
And I chose like two of them in like a lighter warm wood.
Kind of similar to those interplay pictures that I showed you.
And neither of them are available.
So the one I've actually ended up going with is actually pretty quite similar to this.
It's like a darker warm-ish wood.
And I know I said I didn't want the room to be dark.
But I think it's light enough that it won't feel dark.
And that room is really bright, right?
It's got those big windows.
We've got kind of pale...
Whoa!
We've got pale walls for a lot of the rest of the walls.
So I think it's gonna still be a good vibe.
So yeah, we've gone quite similar to this for the colour.
You don't care.
Let's go see them being installed, shall we?
Ladies and gentlemen.
The moment you've all been waiting for.
The bookshelves.
Okay.
Um.
That's all the footage I got of the installation.
So let's cut to future Megan.
Okay friends.
The bookshelves are done.
Are you ready to see them?
I don't know.
I don't know if you are.
Okay.
Oh my god.
Okay.
This is momentous.
Are you ready?
Oh my god.
Look at them.
Take it in.
I don't think words can convey to you how obsessed I am.
Hang on.
I feel like to really appreciate them,
you need to see someone standing in front of them to see how tall they are.
Are you ready?
Are you obsessed?
I feel like Belle.
I feel like maybe subconsciously I've gotten Belle energy.
As a kid, I always wanted to be Belle.
I loved Belle.
I loved her reading.
I loved her library.
I'm so happy with how they've come out.
It's everything I wanted.
I particularly, I love the corner detail.
I feel like that has come out so good.
I mean, look.
Look how it's like molded.
Where is it?
Like around that part.
I mean, come on.
Come on.
I'm obsessed.
I'm obsessed with how they look.
I think I made the right choice of colour and I love them.
I love them very much.
So now, you know what that means.
You know what's going to come next.
Today, we're going to be moving the books to the bookshelf.
Yes, we are.
I'm scared.
I'm terrified.
I'm petrified.
I'm quivering, shaking at my boots.
I'm apprehensive, nervous, a bit scared.
Also weirdly calm.
Perhaps on the verge of hysteria.
So what we need to move, this is the red books, right?
This is all my red books are on these bookshelves here.
They are mostly sorted by genre.
And to be honest, we're going to keep the sorting by genre.
I like having my books sorted by genre.
However, these are mystery, thriller, all mixed up.
I want to separate out mystery and thriller into their own categories
because in my heart, they're totally different things.
And it annoys me when people conflate them.
So why am I conflating them on my bookshelf, ma'am?
However, we've also got to bring the TBR up.
And my thinking is we put the TBR in that little, little?
It's not little.
The corner part.
So then you put the TBR on the corner part and the red books on the bigger part.
The TBR is on my TBR cart.
This was kind of like my most anticipated stuff.
However, we've also got these boxes up to here.
This is all books I need to unhaul over here.
These boxes are all my TBR.
And Dida, she's going to be very sad because this is where she sleeps
all day, every day, basically.
That's her sleeping.
Hi, how you doing?
Yeah, you've eaten all your food already and it's like 10 a.m.
Okay, we're going to move the TBR.
And I think we're going to do the TBR first.
It feels a little bit less intimidating.
So Tom's going to help me bring the TBR up.
We're going to sort that out and then we'll move on to the red books.
Yeah, should we get into it?
I'm excited, but I am petrified.
Okay, hello over there.
There she is.
The entire TBR.
This is my 300-inch books that are on my TBR.
I'm going to sort these into genre.
I've never really had my TBR sorted by genre,
but I feel like I do have the space to.
And yeah, I thought we would start with the TBR
because it's like the starter of the organizing books,
the amuse-bouche, if you will.
It'll get us going.
I feel like this isn't as scary as all my books.
Breaking it up into halves kind of makes it easier.
Yeah, you can join me as...
Because these are all mixed up,
whereas my red books are kind of already sorted in genre.
We need to sort these out.
So join me on a time-lapse.
I don't know how long this is going to take me
as I'm going to roll docket.
No podcast, no audiobook.
As I sort these all into genre, let's get going.
Okay, I feel like this isn't going that bad.
I think I can do this.
This is fine.
Thriller.
Oh, I hope I got it over this.
Oh, this is on TBR 200.
This way.
She's done it, babe.
She's done it.
Oh my God.
This is all quite intimidating.
Let me show you the TBR.
It's all sorted into piles.
We have got mystery, these four stacks here.
Non-fiction, these two stacks here.
These two stacks here are historical.
That is classic,
which I don't want to be shallow with historical,
but like separate.
So that's how I put them.
These four stacks here are all fantasy.
This little stack here, sci-fi.
Another little stack, romance.
Contemporary.
I have an alarming amount of contemporary books.
This stack is horror.
And then those three there are thriller.
So we now must put it on the bookshelves.
Here's the thing, right?
I'm not going to like panic too much over what it looks like
because the TBR, they're going to be coming and going, babes.
Things are constantly going to be taken out
and added to the shelves.
But obviously I want to kind of work down
because of this corner detail,
I want to work down in terms of size.
So we're going to kind of go with the smallest at the top.
I'm hoping the sci-fi stack will fit up there
and then it will probably be like romance
and so on and so forth
until it's like mystery and thriller at the bottom.
So I'm hoping that this all fits here.
However, let me just show you actually,
I am going to use this space here, these shelves
for kind of my like immediate TBR.
So books that I know I'm going to be reading
in the next couple of months for videos.
So like mostly pink.
There's more over there that I need to probably take out.
But like these books I know are,
I'm reading very soon for videos.
So I probably can fill up this
a little bit more than it is already.
But yeah, should we just get into it?
Let's see, let's see if sci-fi fits.
Hello, let's see if sci-fi fits at the top.
Does sci-fi fit up the top?
Does she fit?
Oh my God, it's so wide.
Holy, mother of God.
I need to get a ladder, I think.
I think that's a reasonable expense, don't you?
Anyway, does she fit?
Oh my God, it's perfect.
Trying my best to fit everything else on here.
Let's see how it goes.
Romance next.
Perfect, just looking.
But I have one, two, three, four, five, six genres left.
I have one, two, three, four shelves.
Okay, it's not over.
I'm going to be able to fit all this here.
I've still got space over there,
so I need to utilize that more.
I need to figure out what books need to go there.
We're going to do my next shelves,
horror and non-fiction.
That sounds near impossible,
but we're going to try our very best.
I think I might need to get a lot more aggressive with my stacking.
I think stacking is going to be important here.
It's, listen, it's the TBR.
It doesn't matter too much.
For a second, I might spin it all in.
Is that delusional?
I can do it.
I would love the whole TBR to fit here.
And the idea is we free up space here as the TBR shrinks.
It would be a great way to visualize TBR 200, you know?
Do you know what?
We're going to ******* do it.
We are going to ******* do it.
Oh my God.
Yes!
Come on, come on, come on.
Oh my God, yeah.
I'm getting cocky though.
I'm getting cocky.
I'm not sure we're going to be able to replicate this next
because next we would technically have to get
thriller and historical on the next shelf.
And like they're each three stacks.
It may just all be vertical stacks for now for the TBR.
Okay.
I have added some books to these shelves.
I've probably put out a few more.
I don't necessarily feel the need to yet.
Come join me as I try and...
Listen, I have to stack them up.
I have to stack them up because I would like that area to be the TBR.
We can do this.
We need to make a decision.
I'm not going to fit all of...
Oh my God.
What am I going to do?
I'm not going to fit all of thriller on the shelf with historical
because I have quite a bit of thriller left down here.
Do I move romance down and try and fit thriller all on that shelf?
No, I can't fit thriller there.
How humiliating and degrading.
This is really emotional.
This is really hard.
Here's the thing.
I haven't put the red books in yet.
I could have loads of space on these shelves.
Okay.
An executive decision has been made because call me crazy,
but I think with some stacking,
I can get fantasy and mystery on their own shelf
because these are bigger shelves.
I think I can do it.
So I have to admit that thriller has been double stacked.
I didn't want to do this.
I was like,
I'm going to have so much space.
I'm not going to need to double stack.
She's double stacked, babe.
She's double stacked.
She's stacked up.
Stacked.
So this is all thriller and then behind this,
there's loads more thrillers.
Hopefully that's an incentive maybe for me to read thrillers
because if I'm honest,
a lot of these are thrillers that have been on my TV for a long time.
My reading has definitely shifted more towards mystery than ever
compared to thrillers.
So maybe this is a sign for me to read some of these thrillers.
Well, this is a sign.
My hope is that this is going to be a great visual
for me reading my TBR down this shelf.
I mean, this is ugly.
This is ugly.
Up here where you have space in the genres,
I don't have a lot of, I like.
When we're getting into busy,
this is busy.
This isn't pretty.
I like it less.
So my hope is that as I actually,
I'm really, I'm really, really going to try and read down my TBR.
As I do that,
this will be a visual representation of that.
So yeah, thriller's double stacked.
Now wish me luck.
I'm going to try and do mystery and thriller
and then TBR will be done.
Okay, I have successfully fit the mystery and thriller books in
with a little bit of double stacking.
A little bit.
Here's the thing.
I obviously, bar the first like three shelves,
I don't like how this looks.
However, I think this has to be a come to Jesus moment.
I'm being nailed to the cross like Jesus was
and he did nothing wrong.
He's Jesus Christ and he did nothing wrong.
He was nailed to the cross.
That's how I feel.
I think this has to be a kick up the ass to get my TBR down
because I think we're going to have a ton of space
on these three shelves for my red books.
Like I don't think we're going to be squeezing them in at all.
So I think it has to be,
it has to be motivation.
How ugly that is has to be motivation.
I'm going to do it.
I'm going to get the TBR down.
TBR ain't going to know what hit it for me.
Okay, I'm going to go have some lunch
and then I'm going to come back and yeah, start on the rest.
Wish me luck.
It's me.
I'm back.
It's like a week later.
I've been working on this for five weeks.
I just didn't have time to do this.
But we're here.
We are going to put our red books away on the bookshelf.
Please ignore my blood test bruises.
I want to wear this outfit, okay?
I want to wear it.
Yes, it is short-sleeved.
Yes, you will get a little peek of my easily bruising
and how awful I am at taking blood tests.
They can't find my blood.
Remember vampire.
Okay, here we are.
Here's the plan.
The books are all here.
Let me show you them.
They're all laid out in their genres.
There's like historical fiction, horror, contemporary.
I have separated out mystery, which is like all of this
and thriller, which is those back three.
For the first time.
Usually I'd mix them up.
This time I've separated them.
I have a lot more mystery than thriller.
There of course are some books that are half-half, right?
And like sometimes that decision was difficult.
There are some that are like really middle-of-the-road mystery thriller
but I do like separating them out
because there are some books that are definitely thriller
and some books that are definitely mystery.
So the plan is, let me actually like take you back back.
Mystery and thriller here.
Mystery and thriller on its middle shelf.
I want to put some of my favourite mysteries at like this kind of height.
So that's where we're going to start.
Fantasy, sci-fi, metaphor, realism here
and then other genres here perhaps.
But we need to see the spacing, right?
Because I don't know how much of this fantasy, sci-fi
is actually going to fill.
So we'll be doing mystery for first,
then we'll do fantasy, sci-fi
and then we'll fit some of the other genres around it.
Because like I might want to put horror with mystery, thriller if there's room.
I don't know, we'll see.
In terms of how I like to lay out my bookshelves,
it's still pretty similar to how I've done it many times before.
I like to have some of my favourites face out
which we didn't have room for at the end last time
but I'm hoping we will this time.
So some face out, some stacked normally
and then I do like having some vertical stacks as well
because I think it changes the look of it.
I kind of go by look.
I think I am going to try and group authors together pretty much.
I have, I think I've put all Riley Sagers and thriller
even though there's some that are mystery leading
but I did have to separate some Ruth Wares
because there's some Ruth Wares that are so mystery
and there's some Ruth Wares that are so thriller.
So I have split those up.
But yeah, shall we just get into it?
I want to start with putting some of my favourite mysteries in
and so I want to put my, these are all my Agatha Christie red
of the collection that I collect of like the special edition covers
and of course I have my special edition of The Secret History
which I love.
We wouldn't be here without The Secret History
so it feels right that it's face out.
So I'm going to start by putting those on one of these shelves
and then I think we'll just build around it.
I think for like mystery thriller and for fantasy
I'm going to start on these two shelves
and put some of my like favourite editions of those genres
or favourite books
and then work upwards and then work down.
I think, because I feel like for mystery thriller
I probably have got four shelves worth, maybe.
I don't know.
Let's find out together, shall we?
I guess we're outstayed for two years.
Sorry, I got Paul's McFly.
I'm happy with that.
I'm happy with our first two shelves.
Okay, I've got all my Agatha Christie hardbacks,
all my Agatha Christie paperbacks.
Then we've got some other kind of like classic crime
and then just some other mysteries.
Richard Osman, Lucy Foley, a few other mysteries I really like.
All of my Lady Hardcastle here.
Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter
and then just some other Janice Howlett's over here.
Three Dahlia series and then Donna Tartt over here.
I'm happy with how that looks.
Okay, now I need to try and get you to see.
I'm gonna have to put you far back
and I'm gonna fill up those top two shelves
and I don't know if I'm gonna put anything face out on those shelves.
I don't necessarily feel the need to
because these aren't like my favorites I feel like are here.
So let's go see how those top two shelves go.
Okay, that is mystery done.
I'm happy.
I'm really happy with how that looks, I think.
I don't like the metallic paint pot, plant pot.
Here's the thing, we're gonna like make over the shelves
in terms of like the things I'm putting on them
and the whole room in the next video.
I'm kind of just using what I already have
but these fake plants, I don't like the silver.
But that will change.
But like we have some growing room there
and I feel like we have, I mean like
I don't always have to have face out books, right?
So I feel like we have some growing room.
I mean, I don't know how much.
I feel like that's a lot of my books mystery.
So let's do on the next kind of shelf fortune.
I don't think it'll be three shelves thriller.
So let's see how many,
I don't know if I have any thrillers I want to put face out.
We'll see, maybe there's one.
I forgot, I wanted to put Courtney Summers out
because I, as we know, we love Courtney Summers.
So I have the project face out.
But yeah, I'm happy.
Authors are grouped together.
I feel like some vibes are grouped together.
So let's get on to thriller.
Okay, that is thriller done.
I ended up just putting all the hardbacks on this shelf,
basically all the paperbacks down here.
I'm not sure what I want to put down here yet.
I'm not sure if I want to put like horror down there.
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to move
onto the other big shelf which is fantasy.
See how much of that we fill up and go from there.
I really loved back on my fantasy shelf,
the shelf I had last time,
that was like my favorite slash special edition.
So it had like all my shiny Leigh Bardugo's on it
and like a lot of my favorite and it was all hardcover.
So I think we may do that again on this shelf
and then put other favorites on this shelf
and then again work up and then work down.
That's the plan.
I feel like we may fill up more of this.
I honestly don't.
I have no clue.
I have no clue how many books I own.
I actually don't know.
I've never known.
I have no idea.
Okay, here's the thing.
I've put my favorite hardbacks on this shelf.
We have space for one more.
I've started this shelf of other favorites, right?
Got some V Schwab, we've got Wayward Children series,
Legends and Lattes.
I'm in a tricky position with my stack
where I actually am now just seeing books
I don't want to put on my favorite shelf.
That's maybe not the best attitude to have
towards fantasy that I own.
So I'm gonna move up.
We're gonna like do the books I don't care about as much
and put them at the top
and then we'll come back down.
I hate to say that, but it's true.
Since I'm now having the criteria
that I want my like middle shelves to be my favorite,
I kind of don't, hmm.
I don't know what to put there, which isn't the best.
I'm struggling a bit.
I've just got some awkwardly sized books left
and like series that are like half paperback,
half hardback and I don't like that
and I don't know where to put it all.
I don't know where to put it all.
I'm not liking this shelf here
and that's a problem
because it's supposed to be like a favorite shelf.
This shelf looks so good,
but it's next to the mystery
and this one just doesn't look right.
Okay, I'm gonna keep trying.
Bit of pressure, but I'm sure it'll be fine.
I'm gonna smash it.
I feel like putting Yampa on the shelf
has saved it somewhat.
I don't love it still.
I managed to fit it all on the four shelves
apart from Marissa Mayer randomly.
If we have like a little bit of space here,
it'll be room for another hardback there
and obviously some space here.
Maybe I put my bookmarks here.
It's like it just doesn't fit,
but I guess we do want space.
I don't know if we have some space here.
I don't know if I love the fantasy.
I feel like mystery thriller, I excelled myself,
but I think I have a lot.
Here's the thing, here's the thing, here's the thing.
I think I have a lot of awkwardly sized series.
So I have a lot of series
where I have like one hardback
and the rest of it's diviners.
Two paperbacks, two hardbacks.
Girls of Summer Shadow, I have the Ark and a paperback.
Nightingale, two paperbacks, one hardback.
Scythe, I have the hardback in the middle one
for some reason and paperbacks are the other two.
Like it's all over the place.
And what's, oh, I have the Will of the Many, hang on.
But could that go, I could go there, right?
Okay, that fills that space a little bit.
I really, I think I might need lunch soon
to like replenish, restock.
I'm a little bit, I'm scared of the other genres
and like where we're going to put them.
Anyway, let's get into, yeah, sci-fi magical realism
which won't take long.
Okay, I feel like it's coming together.
I feel, is that delusion?
Perhaps.
So we have about the same, we have like
just over a shelf and a half left on each shelf.
And I got to think like,
what do I want to put in each of these places?
See, having horror with mystery thriller makes sense, right?
That makes logical sense.
But I don't know if I've got too much.
So we might try and put that there.
And I'm thinking maybe contemporary
which obviously doesn't go with fantasy
but like nothing does.
The problem I'm having is historical books.
I have some of my ugliest books, like weird editions
and I have some of my most beautiful books
like my beautiful Pride and Prejudice.
So I think I do want to show them off.
Okay, let's start on those shelves.
Let's put some historical in
because I think maybe historical could be the top row
which isn't as visible and like the second.
Hello.
The most important book is going in.
Oh my gosh.
And to be fair this one,
I feel like I'm going to swap them around
what's visible every now and again.
But they need to go there.
I guess I need to put my Austen's thing as well.
Okay, let's go with my historical then.
I feel like the historical probably fit quite well.
Let's, let's give it a go.
Let's give it a go.
Okay, so we have classics.
Jane Austen, classics and Taylor Jenkins read as God intended.
Classics and Taylor Jenkins read.
And then other historical fiction up there
which we do have some space for.
So I better get reading.
I better get reading those historical pictures.
Okay, I'm going to do graphic novels on this shelf
because I feel like that'll be a good visual space for them.
And then I think non-fiction.
Let's keep going, babe.
I'm feeling good, you know.
Okay, where should I move the camera to keep this exciting?
I can do this, you know.
I can do it.
I think like graphic novels will only need the one shelf
because I quite like how I stacked them for my old shelf.
I would just like to have one or two,
maybe like one here in the middle.
But I gotta like, you gotta space out the stacks, the face outs.
You need to alternate where they are, you know.
It's very important, guys.
So maybe have a stack here and then like a face out one here
and then like some other ones here.
I don't know.
Let's figure it out, shall we?
I'm thinking for stability, I actually need to put this stack here,
have these ones standing up here.
We're going to do a bit of a rejig, but it's fine.
It's fine, it's fine, it's fine.
I'm keeping that kind of central.
Do I hate that?
I think I preferred how the stack looked there,
but I don't think that works for stability.
These need to like lean up against here.
I want this stack to be the center point, right?
And I feel like putting it in the corner kind of hides it a bit.
So if I use one of these things, can we make it work?
That looks better.
I prefer how that looks.
Okay, next I think let's do non-fiction
and I think that non-fiction will probably be two shelves.
Are you ready?
Okay, let's go.
I'm feeling good, guys.
I have a lot of graphic novel room,
so I better read gumshoe like yesterday.
Okay, non-fiction went great.
This shelf I call women.
Women.
It is all of my non-fiction about women
or like issues that affect women
or history of women or forgotten women,
story of murderous things out.
Actually, should I swap the stack?
I don't know.
Anyways, so yeah, non-fiction actually managed to kind of separate.
Apart from these two books at the end here,
they're not women.
Everything else is women.
And then I've got biographies here or pop culture stuff here.
I need more pop culture non-fiction.
I've only really got two.
And then more like political non-fiction.
So it'd be that like anti-racist or stuff about politics in general.
And then I have some like history kind of non-fiction
and then I have some like mental health stuff at the end.
So I've already had my non-fiction.
I've kind of categorized it.
My only thinking is do I need to move the biography stack?
Um, I don't know.
See, I kind of want that to be seen more than that.
So I'm gonna keep it as is even if it looks a bit wonky.
Okay, let's step back for a sec.
These are the shelves we have left.
We have two here.
We have halves of those.
And these are the books we have left.
So we have most horror,
which kind of does make me think actually that I should put horror.
Why was there more horror?
No, there's more space on these, isn't there?
I think I might put romance down here.
Horror here.
Contemporary here.
I think I'm just gonna film a big time lapse of me doing all of that
because it might require some rejigging.
And then we'll look at how it all looks as one.
It's very exciting.
I have less room than I thought I would though.
Although here's the thing, right?
If long term, I wanna move the TBR off the bookshelf
and into some sort of like separate system like I used to have.
Like I never used to have my TBR on my bookshelf.
That would free up like a whole quarter of these shelves, right?
So and I still have room within all of these shelves basically to add stuff.
We have all the face out books which I can get rid of.
Like that's a way of me filling up.
So yeah, I'm gonna film a big time lapse of me doing those last three genres.
And we kind of need to see how it's all gonna fit together.
Is it gonna work?
Okay, so the shelves are finished.
Hang on, let me put you far back.
Let me put you far back.
Here's me and my shelf.
It is perfect.
Everything that we work for is right here, right in this moment.
It is just amazing.
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.
I can't stop looking at them.
I am really, oh my god.
Just seeing how it looks on camera now they're all in, it's crazy.
I'm really happy with how they've all turned out.
I'm very, very happy.
There is still some space at the bottom.
But I feel like if you're gonna have space anywhere, that's where you want it to be, right?
So we have some growing room.
We have a lot of face out books that we could get rid of.
One day I probably might move the TBR off of here.
And like I've got a lot of cupboards.
So I could do like a TBR closet, kind of like what Kayla has.
And have like a separate TBR space which would fill up a whole quarter of the bookshelves, right?
So that's a possibility one day.
But yeah, I'm really happy how I look.
Oh my god guys, look at all my books.
Wait, holy ----.
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.
Okay, and I just want to like, at the end of this video, this is the end of this first video.
I'm gonna do a second one furnishing this whole room.
I want to get some sort of light system for the bookshelves.
I want to get more decor.
Obviously the decor for the whole room, but more kind of like bookshelf decor as well.
So that's all going to be in the next video.
Fully like finishing this room.
But for now, here's how we took this room from this.
A big red wall.
Not my favorite colors ever.
Yeah, didn't love how this room looked to now it looking like this.
I'm very happy.
Very, very happy.
So yeah, thank you so much for watching this video.
I hope it was fun seeing us take the room from literally like the beginning
to what it looks like now.
I'm so happy with it.
I can't wait to move my desk up here and to work in here.
And yeah, like I say, to get all the other decor for the room,
I'm very excited to like fill it out fully.
But I'm so happy with how the bookshelves look.
I'm so happy.
I can't stop looking at them.
I'm so happy.
So, so happy.
So yeah, I hope you enjoyed this video.
Thank you so much for watching, friends.
And I'll see you very soon in another one.
Bye!
