The Book of Revelation - Opening of the Sixth Seal - Rev. 6:12-17, continues the study of the messages to the seven churches in Asia. The sixth seal shows the decreation in relationship to the sixth day of Genesis.
The text focuses on the conclusion of the vengeance of the martyrs who were under the altar crying out for vengeance for their blood shed by those who were yet on earth.
They receive white robes, another indication of the imminent historical time frame forr the writing of the book, namely, a pre-AD70 date. The major themes are the wrath of the God, the meaning of the decreation language of heaven and earth destroyed and the application of the people hid themselves in the caves, and cried out to the mountains and rocks to fall of them and to hide them from the face of the Lamb and from Him who sat on the throne.
The final day of the wrath of God had come and the time was up for the persecutors of the saints.
Good morning everyone and welcome to all things will feel I'm William Bell in this video
we're going to be talking about the book of Revelation opening of the sixth seal and
Basically, we're going to
cover this information in the
Context of what we have been dealing with on Revelation chapter 6
pointing out the fact that these
Six seals were following the line of the days of creation and then we're gonna look at what unfolds within that
So first of all just to reiterate a little bit from the fifth seal
The text says when he opened the fifth seal I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word
Of God and for the testimony, which they held and they cried with a loud voice saying how long Oh Lord
Holy and true until you judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth
Then a white robe was given to each of them and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer
Until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who would be killed as they were were completed
Now we had spoken of course about the souls under the altar. We talked about
Their cry and the fact that God would avenge them and we showed how the vengeance that was going to come
in their behalf
Was associated with the fall of the temple in 70 AD
John the Baptist spoke about it in Matthew chapter 3 and verse 7 when the Sadducees and the Pharisees came to his baptism
He said old generation of vipers who warned you to flee the wrath about to come
So as he goes on in that chapter
he talks about the judgment that was going to take place at the end of that age and therefore
Indicated that this wrath was coming upon the people of Israel who rejected the Messiah
again, we looked at Luke chapter 21 verses 20 through 23 to speak about this wrath and Luke says that
When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies then know that its desolation is near
Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains let those who are in the midst of her depart and let not those who in
The country's into her for these are the days of vengeance that all things which are written may be fulfilled
Now Luke goes on to say in connection with that event that there would be great distress
in the land and wrath upon this people because
He says but woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days
well, there will be great distress in the land and
Wrath upon this people. So there's the wrath that's coming upon them and notice it is in connection with Jerusalem's fall
for he says and they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led away captive into all nations and
Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled a text
Also that is mentioned in Revelation chapter 11 and verse 2
All of those things would come to pass in that generation
Then we talked about 1st Thessalonians chapter 2 verses 14 through 16
where the Apostle Paul talked about those who had
Killed the Lord Jesus and he said they have persecuted us
they have
Also
Prevented us or tried to restrict us from preaching the gospel to the Gentiles
So verse 14 of chapter 2 for you brethren became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ
Jesus
well
you also suffered the same things of your own countrymen just as we have of the Jews who kill both the Lord Jesus and their
Own prophets and have persecuted us and they do not please God and are contrary to all men
Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved to
So that always they fill up the measure of their sins
But the wrath has come upon them to the uttermost
So God was taking vengeance on those who were persecuting the Saints who were monitoring the Saints in the first century
But that was in connection with the destruction of Jerusalem
So when we look for example in the book of Hebrews chapter 10 and verse 30, we have the same
Concept first of all
He's already said in verse 25 that they were not to forsake this gathering
Together of themselves as was the manner of some that is don't be apostatizing from the faith
He says but exhorting one another and so much the more as you see the day approaching and so in verse 30
He says for we know him who said
Vengeance is mine. I will repay says the Lord and again. The Lord will judge his people
He's quoting from Deuteronomy 32 and verse 35, which Moses said would
Transpire in Israel's last days in that perverse and crooked generation
He also said that would be the time verses 41 and verse 43 that God will
render judgment
upon his people and avenge the blood of his servants those passages are quoted in Revelation chapter 18 and
verse 20 and
24 as well saying that God brought judgment against
mystery Babylon the harlot of the book of Revelation and
that they were being judged for shedding the blood of the prophets of the
Apostles and the Saints now mystery Babylon is therefore
Jerusalem it is not a reference to Rome. It is not a reference to America
It is not even a reference to the ancient city of Babylon
But it was Jerusalem because that was the city where the Lord was crucified as the Bible says in Luke 13
I believe it's verse 33. It cannot be that a prophet perishes outside of Jerusalem
So that's not America and in Revelation 11 in verse 8
He says concerning the two witnesses and their dead bodies shall lie in the street of that great city
Which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt where also our Lord was crucified?
so we have to be clear on the fact that this vengeance and this wrath that is coming about that these
martyrs were crying out for in
Revelation chapter 6 and verse 9 are in direct reference to the persecutions and the
murders of the blood and shedding of the blood of the prophets and Saints even of the Lord
That we see in the New Testament
and so we shouldn't be taking it out of that context trying to make it refer to something that we see today now one of
the direct responses to
those who were
the martyred souls under the altar
Was the fact that he said white robes would be given to them now
That's another clue that these are things that are referring to the time of the fall of the temple
And those events leading up to that
momentous
cataclysmic event
So when we look at it
It says then a white robe was given to each of them and it was said to them that they should rest a little while
longer until both the number of their fellow servants and
Their brethren who would be killed as they were was completed
so they had to fill up that number fill up that cup of
Iniquity at which time God would pour out his
iniquity upon them and
So let's go back and take a look at Daniel chapter 11 and here we will see an application to this now
If you want more supportive evidence, you can look up
Josephus and he will tell you that the events of Daniel occurred and were fulfilled in two events
One was the time of Antiochus Epiphanes and the other was
the Roman invasion of Jerusalem and I think we can see that confirmed in these passages because in this context of
Daniel chapter 11, there is a
Notable shift to the time of Rome notice in verse 30 of Daniel 11
the Bible says for ships from Cyprus now Cyprus is actually Kittim and Kittim is
Rome so for ships from Kittim shall come against him. Therefore he shall be grieved and
Return in rage against the Holy Covenant and do damage
So he shall return and show regard for those who forsake the Holy Covenant
In other words, he was going to be favorable to those who would forsake the Holy Covenant and forces shall be mustered by him
And they shall defile the sanctuary fortress
Then they shall take away the daily sacrifices and place there the abomination of desolation
that's why Jesus said in Matthew chapter 24 and verse 15 that when they would see the
abomination of desolation
Spoken of by Daniel the Prophet
let him who reads pray that he also understands so we do have those who want to constrict and
Confine the events found in the book of Daniel
Merely to the time of Antiochus Epiphanes
But there are some events that just cannot be placed in his time nor could they
exclusively be placed in his time because we see the historical framework of
Rome and we will see that also in Daniel chapter 9 when he talks about the 70 weeks
you'll see it in Daniel 7 when he talks about the war against the Saints when
the Messiah the Ancient of Days comes and
takes away the kingdom and
Destroys the little horn and the time comes for the Saints to possess the kingdom
none of that occurred in the time of Antiochus Epiphanes and you have the same thing as I said in Daniel 9 and
even in Daniel 2 when you're dealing with the
With the stone that was cut out of the mountains that destroyed the image
So when he says they would take away the daily sacrifices
He's talking about and and place the abomination of desolation
Jesus is saying that this applies to his time
it applies to the time that was present within the first century and as a result that was the occasion for
The disciples to flee from the city of Jerusalem to flee
To the mountains and to not return back even to get their clothes or their personal belongings. So he said
Those who do wickedly verse 32 against the covenant
He shall corrupt with flattery
But the people who know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits and those of the people who understand
Shall instruct many yet for many days. They shall fall by the sword and flame by captivity and plundering
So these were the persecutions against the Saints that were
Carried out in the first century and it's why the martyrs are crying out under the altar saying Lord
How long will you not avenge our blood upon those who are on the earth and notice in verse 34?
It says now when they fall they shall be aided with a little help
but many shall join with them by intrigue and
Some of those of understanding shall fall to refine them and watch
Purify them and make them white
Until the time of the end now look again in Revelation chapter 6 and the verse is 9
or 10
When he says that they were to rest for a little while
until those who would be killed like they were was completed, but it says a
white robe was given to them and
They therefore they should rest until that number was completed
Well when that number was completed the cup would be full and God would bring the judgment upon them at the time
And so again in verse 35 of Daniel 11, some of those of understanding shall fall to refine them
Purify them and make them white until the time of the end and notice very carefully
That it says the time of the end it does not say until the end of time and
That correlates with Daniel chapter 12 and verse 4 and so he says because it is still
For the appointed time even Daniel is letting you know that these events were for the appointed time that very time
That's mentioned in Daniel chapter 12 and verse 1. So then the king shall do according to his own will
He will exalt and magnify himself above every God now
It's my understanding that the king here would be the one who usurped the authority of God and there is one such
Individual in the New Testament or one such corporate identity in the New Testament that fits this bill
So he says that he would magnify himself above every God
Shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished
Notice he was going to prosper until the wrath would be accomplished and we've just seen what the wrath was
Involving it was involving the destruction of
Jerusalem and so for what has been determined shall be done
He shall regard neither the God of his fathers nor the desire of women nor regard any God for he shall exalt himself
above them all
now in 2nd Thessalonians chapter
1 no chapter 2 beginning at verse 1 2nd Thessalonians chapter 2
Beginning at verse 1 this is about the time of the end because he says now brethren
Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him
That's the same gathering of Matthew 24 31 the same gathering of Hebrews 10 and verse 25
He says that you're not to be soon shaken in mind trouble either by spirit or by word or by letter as if from us
Though the day of Christ had come so they got a little bit of trigger happiness. They jumped the gun so to speak and
Thought that the coming of the Lord had already occurred as early as a d50 or 51 when Jesus gave them
Signs and says it was going to happen when they saw the abomination of desolation
But he goes into that Paul does to again give them signs and let them know no, it's not here just yet and
Think about it
They have to have signs in order to know
But he says let no one deceive you by any means for that day will not come unless the falling away comes first now
we saw the falling away in Israel in Daniel chapter 11 and
the apostasy and then he says
Unless the fall in the way comes first and the man of sin or the man of lawlessness is
Revealed the son of position. What does perdition? What does he do? He opposes and
Exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worship
So that he sits as God where in the temple of God
We had a discussion on clubhouse not too long ago and some people were trying to
skirt themselves around
the teaching that Christ would come in the first century so we got into a discussion about the temple that was existing at the
Time and when they looked it up
They found that it was the temple that was existing in the first century, which that's what the Bible says
That's the only one that would be relevant to those who were here in Thessalonica
Especially in around 50 to 51 AD and the text says that he opposed
God
He opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worship
so that he sits as God in the temple of God showing himself that he is God and
from that perspective when you go back to Daniel and verse 36, once again, it says that he shall exalt and
magnify himself above
Every God shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods and shall prosper till the wrath has been
Accomplished for what has been determined shall be done
He shall regard neither the God of women nor the desire of his father's nor regard any God for he shall exalt himself
Above them all now as you read further in 2nd Thessalonians
where do you end up right there in the text that we've just covered verses 14 through 16 that talks about the
Wrath that would come upon those who murdered the Lord Jesus and
killed the prophets their own prophets who persecuted the Apostles and
Were persecuting the Thessalonians just as their brethren were doing in
Judea so that the wrath had come upon them to the uttermost and that's what that text is saying
It says he would prosper until that time and what happens just like the in Daniel chapter 7 where the little horn comes
and defeats, I mean the ancient of days comes and
defeats the little horn and as the text says the time came for the
Saints to possess the kingdom that is when the kingdom was taken away. So he says I was watching verse
21 of chapter 7 and the same horn was making war against the Saints and
Prevailing against them until the ancient of days came and a judgment was made in favor of the Saints of the Most High and the
Time came for the Saints to possess the kingdom
well
that is that time of wrath that we've been looking at in the New Testament and that would be the vengeance for
shedding the blood of the prophets the Saints the Apostles the Lord and these martyrs that we have in Revelation chapter 6 and
verse 9
So it's very important to see that and so when you get to chapter 12
when he says at that time Michael shall stand up the great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people and there shall
be a time of trouble
Such as never was since there was a nation even to that time and at that time your people shall be delivered
Well four times in the text the word Kairos is used for the appointed time
That's the time Jesus is talking about
But again that refers to that appointed time of the end of Daniel 11 and verse 35
So this is a part of it now as we further look at this
remember the sixth day was the day in which all of the
abundance of the
Creeping things etc were created and this is what you have in the opening of the sixth seal
In terms of the decreation language, let's go back to Genesis chapter 1 and read just a couple of verses very quickly and
on the
Fifth day under that fifth seal
He says then God excuse me on the fifth day which corresponds with the fifth seal
then God said let the waters abound with abundance of living creatures and let birds fly in the earth across the face of the
firmament of the heavens
So God created the great sea creatures and every living thing that moves with with the waters abound according to their kind and
every winged bird according to its kind and God saw it that it was good and
God blessed them saying be fruitful and multiply fill the waters in the seas and let the birds multiply on the earth
So you have this word that talks about they're multiplying and filling the earth with all of these things that were created
on
That day and then you have of course on the sixth day the creation of man, but notice in
Genesis 9 that the Bible talks about this
multiplication of mankind
So he says in verse 7 as for you be fruitful and multiply bring forth
Abundantly in the earth and multiply it in it
So just as he was saying in Genesis when he talks about bringing forth these swarms
Of living creatures, etc. You have the same thing in
Referring to Noah, but again in the book of Exodus in chapter 1
when the Bible talks about the children of Israel
Multiplied and grew exceedingly same word that's used there. So he says in verse
12 and
Yeah verse 12
But they the more they afflicted them the more they multiplied and
Grew and then even in verse 7 the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly
Multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty and the land was filled with them
So there's the idea and when you look in the sixth seal you see not only and we're getting a little bit ahead of that
of where we are now, but under that sixth seal you see also the
This in addition to this great number of martyrs, but you see the
12 tribes of Israel
the
144,000 and then after that you see this number that no man could number this innumerable company. So
the opposite of the creation in the
in Genesis that was applied there and
Showing you how these things sort of correlate the one with the other in terms of the days of creation
But notice what we have in
Revelation 6 9 is the creation language and so we're reversing that now that being the case when you look in that sixth seal
in Revelation and
Verse 12 after we've talked about the white robe, etc
he says I looked when he opened the sixth seal and
Behold there was a great earthquake and the Sun became black as sackcloth of hair and the moon became like blood and
the stars of heaven fell to the earth as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind then
the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up in every mountain an
Island was moved out of its place now for the earthquake and for this decreation process that we see
Listed here it would
Help us to go to Deuteronomy. Excuse me to
Ezekiel chapter 38 in the context of Gog and Magog
Which we see also in Revelation chapter 20 that also deals with the end of the heaven and earth
Because it says there that heaven and earth fled from the face of him who sat on the throne and there was no place found
For them. Well, that's decreation language. So in Ezekiel chapter 38 and the verses 19
He says for in my jealousy now
He's talking about Jerusalem of the Old Covenant at this time for in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath
I have spoken
surely in that day there shall be a
Great earthquake in the land of Israel so that watch the fish of the sea
the birds of the heavens the beasts of the field all
Creeping things that creep on the earth and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at my presence
The mountain shall be thrown down the steep places shall fall and every wall shall fall to the ground
So here you can see that in this decreation language
That's used in the prophets and it's being used in Revelation 6
it involves the reversal of those things that we saw on day 5 and 6 of
creation and therefore
the decreation of these things and hence the need for the new creation, which you see in
Chapter 7 beginning with the hundred and forty-four thousand and the innumerable company and
furthermore in terms of the heaven and earth
Being destroyed again from Revelation chapter 6
It's so important that we see this now when we talk about heaven and earth
We're not talking about the physical heaven and earth
What we're talking about is a reference to Israel's Old Covenant world
And by the way before I forget I have a book which is called will planet earth be destroyed
And I've gone through both Old Testament and New Testament even done a verse-by-verse on 2nd Peter chapter 3
So get a copy of this and understand how these terms are used in Scripture
But as we were saying if you go all the way back to Genesis chapter 37, I believe when Joseph had his dream
Joseph dream that the Sun the moon and the 11 stars
Fell down and worshiped him and then what was the response and the interpretation of that dream?
Jacob said shall I and your mother and your 11 brothers?
Actually, oh really come and worship down before you and so from that
dream, he was demonstrating that the Sun moon and stars were a reference to Israel and we can see that and
all of the things that related to Israel's
Cultural
Perspective including the temple etc. So that's the concept and the reference to those things now to show you again
The language that's being used for the fall of a heaven and earth because it can refer not only to Israel
But it could also refer to civil powers as well. So let's go now to the book of Isaiah Isaiah chapter
34 and
Look at how that language the very language that's used here in the book of Revelation is applied to
Edom so in verse 1
He says come near you nations to hear and heed you people
Let the earth hear and all that is in it the world and all the things that come forth from it for the indignation
That's God's anger of the Lord is against all nations and his fury against all their armies
He has utterly destroyed them. He has given them over to the slaughter
also, their slain shall be thrown out their stench shall rise from their corpses and the mountains shall be
Melted with blood same concept that we saw over in Ezekiel 38 verses 19 and 20 all the hosts of heaven shall be dissolved
See all the hosts of heaven. That's like all the birds of the air and everything
in the heavens and
The heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll, but this is figurative language. It's apocalyptic language
it's not talking about the literal physical heaven and earth being destroyed all their hosts shall fall down as
The leaf falls from the vine and as the fruit falling from a fig tree for my sword shall be bathed in heaven
But look at what the heaven is indeed
It shall come down in or on Edom and the people of my curse for judgment
The sword of the Lord is filled with blood it made overflowing with the fatness with the blood of lambs and goats, etc
For the Lord has a sacrifice in Basra
Which was the capital of Edom and a great slaughter in the land of Edom
So this is what we're talking about
The land would be soaked with blood look at verse 8 for it is the day of the Lord's vengeance
remember what they did to
Babylon and how they
Worked against the people of Israel with their enemies
He says the year of recompense for the cause of Zion its streams shall be turned
Into pitch and it's dust into brimstone
Its land shall become
Burning pitch it shall not be quenched day and night
So here is a judgment of fire and brimstone that will not be quenched on the land of Edom
Its smoke shall ascend forever
From generation to generation. It's a live waste. No one shall ever pass through it forever and ever
Now is that a fiery burning hell where God was going to throw people and let them to be tortured forever and ever
No, you see how that language is used
Now that same language is used in the book of Revelation to talk about the destruction of Jerusalem
It's here talking about the destruction of Edom and it's also talked
About and refers to the destruction of Jerusalem. Here's another reason we know that it's not fiery hail
Condemnatory language of people being tortured day and night in verse 11. He says but the pelican and
the porcupine
Shall possess it and the owl and the raven shall dwell in it
So this land of Edom that's burning with fire and brimstone
forever and ever
day and night
he says
The porcupine the pelican and the isle and the raven shall dwell in it
And he shall stretch out over it the line of confusion and the stones of emptiness
So notice that
from generation to generation
This is supposed. That's not a literal
Burning of
Hell fire
That's just symbolism for God's judgment
Now, let's look at that same text in Isaiah referred to in the book of Revelation. We're gonna move ahead
Just a little bit look in chapter 14
the text says and
This starts with Babylon. Remember we said Babylon was Jerusalem mystery Babylon
This is the time of judgment verse 7 of Revelation 14
saying with a loud voice fear God and give glory to him for the hour of his judgment has come and
Worship him who made heaven and earth the sea and the springs of water and another angel followed saying Babylon is fallen
That's Jerusalem. That's mystery Babylon. So it's talking about the very imminent destruction of Babylon
And so he says that great city
The one where the Lord was crucified
Because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication
found in Revelation chapter 17
Then a third angel followed them saying with a loud voice if anyone worships the Beast and his image
Now, how long was the Beast going to continue in the book of Revelation according to chapter 13? It says
That those who made war with the Beast
Verse 4 who is like the Beast who is able to make war with him and he was given a mouth speaking great things
and blasphemies and he was given authority to
Continue for 42 months for three and a half years
So the Beast wasn't going to continue that long
now notice it says if anyone worships the Beast and his image and
Receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand
He himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God. That's the same wrath
which is poured out full strength into the cup of his
Indignation into the cup of his anger why because they had filled up their cup of iniquity
he shall be tormented with fire and
brimstone in the presence of the Holy Angels and in the presence of the Lamb and
the smoke of their torment
Ascends forever and ever just like you need them and they have no rest day or night
Who worshiped the Beast and his image and whoever receives the mark of his name?
Now remember the Beast would only continue for three and a half years for 42 months, but when you go to book of Revelation
chapter 19
the Bible talks about the
final destiny of the Beast and
In verse 19, it says and I saw the Beast
the kings of the earth and
their armies
Gathered together to make war against him who sat on the horse and against his army
go to Acts 4 25 and see who were the kings of the earth and
the Gentiles and Herod and Pontius Pilate, etc
Who were gathered together against the Lord and his anointed in fulfillment of the prophecy of Psalm chapter 2
But it says these were the ones who were gathered together to make war the war only lasted three and a half years
Then the Beast was captured and with him the false prophet
Who worked signs in his presence by which he deceived those who received the mark of the Beast the very ones we were talking about
over in Revelation 14 and
Those who worshiped his image these two were cast alive into the lake of fire
Burning with brimstone now if in Isaiah 34
You had brimstone and pitch burning forever and ever
That would not be quenched. Why is that not a lake of fire as well?
But you see the pelicans were flying around in it. The Ravens were flying around in the
Whatever the porcupine was walking around in
unscathed
It was not hell and
so when the rest
Were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of him who sat on the horse and all the birds were filled
With their flesh you see that this is figurative language being spoken of here to refer to the destruction of the city of Jerusalem
taken straight out of the law and the prophets and then finally we get to
these passages that speak about the
The sky receding as a scroll when it is rolled up every mountain and island moved out of its place
the stars of heaven falling etc
That's the language for the fall of the nation and the civil rulers and powers these spiritual powers who were there
The high priest
The zealots, etc, who took over the rule of the temple in the time of the end
but he said
that in
Matthew 24 29 in connection with that flight from Jerusalem, etc, and the Great Tribulation
he said
that the
Immediately after this let's go over there and look at the text
Matthew 24 and verse 29 after their flight
Etc. He says immediately after the tribulation which was mentioned in verse 21 of those days and
Jesus said that it was a time of tribulation such as never was since there was a nation no nor ever shall be
he said that
the Sun will be darkened the moon will not give its light and the stars of
will fall from heaven and the powers of the heaven will be shaken and that's when they would see the sign of the Son of
Man in the heavens and
all the tribes of the land would mourn Revelation 1 7 and they would see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven
with power and
Great glory all of that is in connection with the destruction of Jerusalem because he said assuredly I say to you
This generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place
so that's all of you don't have any others and
That's why he says the wrath of God will be completed and and thus you have this shaking of heaven and earth
but that shaking was already in progress in the first century and the contrast or the
Comparison and
contrast is between the mountain of Moses which refers to the Old Covenant and
The mountain of Christ or Zion which refers to the New Covenant
look in
Hebrews 12
Verse 18 says for we have not come
you have not come to the mountain that might be touched that burned with fire into blackness and darkness and tempest and
the sound of a trumpet in the voice of words so that
Those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore for they could not endure what was commanded and if
So much as a beast touched the mountain
it should be stoned or shot with an arrow and so terrifying was the sight that even Moses said I
Am exceedingly afraid and trembling. So there's one mountain
That referred to the time they received the covenant in Sinai
But he says you have come to Mount Zion to the city of the Living God the heavenly Jerusalem to an innumerable company of
Angels or messengers to that general assembly. That's the one for the hundred and forty four thousand
Which we will talk on when we get to the latter part of this sixth seal
to Jesus the mediator of the New Covenant and
To the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things that of Abel now watch the end of the heaven and earth spoken of here
So see that you do not refuse him who speaks for if they did not escape him who refused him who spoke on earth
Much more shall we not escape if we turn away from him who speaks from heaven whose voice then shook the earth
See, that's at Sinai at the receiving of that Old Covenant
whose voice then shook the earth but now and
That's a now in real time at the time of the writer of the book of Hebrews. He has promised saying yet once more I
Shake not only the earth but also heaven and that's a quote from Haggai chapter 2
6 through 8 with the yet once more
so he says in verse 27 now this yet once more indicates the removal of those things that are
Being shaken so the heaven and earth was already being shaken
that's the earthquake that he's talking about in the scriptures as
Of things that are made and that is an ellipsis for things made with hands
Referring to the old temple cultists, etc
That the things which cannot be shaken may remain what is it that replaces that it's the kingdom of God
which is the new heaven and new earth and
Thus he says therefore since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken
Let us have grace by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear now
you could also see this contrast between the two mountains in Galatians chapter 4 as
Galatians
Paul said in Galatians beginning at verse 21. He says tell me you who desire to
Follow the law to be under the law
Do you not hear the law?
For it is written that Abraham had two sons the one by a bond woman the other by a free woman
But he was born of the bond woman was born according to the flesh and who was of the free woman through promise
Which things are symbolic?
Well, these are the two covenants
The one from Mount Sinai which we just read about in Hebrews chapter 12 verse 18
Which gives birth to bondage?
Which is Hagar?
for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and
corresponds to Jerusalem which now is and
Jerusalem was still existing when Galatians written and is in bondage with her children
But the Jerusalem which is above is free which is the mother of us all now what was happening between these two
Jerusalem's the one that was from Mount Sinai and her children were
persecuting
those who were of
Isaac see the old Jerusalem referred to Ishmael the son of a bond woman the New Jerusalem
Referred to Isaac the son of a free woman. And so he says in verse 28
Now we brethren as Isaac was our children of promise
But as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit
So there was a real situation going on in Genesis 21 and before he says nevertheless
What does the scripture say?
Cast out the bond woman that I read the whole thing
But as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit even so it is now
So these who were children of the bond woman were persecuting those who were children of the Spirit. They were making them martyrs
Nevertheless, what does the scripture say cast out the bond woman and her son? That's the end of the old heaven and earth
the temple
the Levitical priesthood
all of those things
That were seen and that related to the Old Covenant
Cast out the bond woman and her son for the son of the bond woman shall not be heir
With the son of the free woman. So then brethren, we are not children of the bond woman
But of the free those are your fake Jews in Revelation 2 9 and 3 9 the ones who said that
We are Jews, but we're not but we're of the synagogue of Satan and I hear so many people
Misrepresent that and want to talk about something contemporary in our day in order to validate themselves
No, it's a refer a reference to Old Covenant Israel who rejected the Messiah and who were destroyed in
70 AD and
Then and this lesson is much longer than our 30-minute Sunday lesson because I want to get all these points in
After we see this language of the decreation now all these swarms of people
The Bible says and the kings of the earth the great men the rich men the commanders the mighty men every slave and every free
man hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains and
said to the mountains and the rocks fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and
from the wrath of the Lamb
Because that refers to the time of the great day of wrath
Now if we go to Hosea
chapter 10 and verse 8
the Bible says
Also, the high places of Avon the sin of Israel shall be destroyed the thorn and thistle shall grow on their altars
They shall say to the mountains
Cover us and to the hills fall on us
So you can see that they're quoting from texts that relate to judgments upon
Israel you can also see
Similar language in Isaiah chapter 2 with the judgment that God was speaking of in that
Context as well
But it particularly particular in Luke chapter 23
verses 27 through 30
Jesus specifically applied the language to Jerusalem at the time of his
Crucifixion when he was carrying his cross and falling under the weight of it
So much so that Simon
Had to help him bear it
The Bible says and a great multitude verse 27 of the people followed him and women who also mourned and lamented him
They were crying for Jesus
their emotions got the best of them and
they were all
Crying and lamenting the punishment that they had seen him go through and that he was about to
Consummate in his death
But verse 28 says but Jesus turning to them said daughters of Jerusalem
daughters of Jerusalem
Do not weep for me. He didn't say daughters of Rome daughters of America daughters of Babylon. He said daughters of Jerusalem
Do not weep for me but weep for your children
for indeed the days are coming in which they will say blessed are the barren wombs that never bore and
breasts that never nursed
then they will begin see at that time then they will begin to say to the mountains fall on us and
To the hills cover us
for if they do these things in a greenwood what will be done in the dry and
so this language
refers to the events of
The fall of Jerusalem that Jesus said you daughters of Jerusalem. You need to be weeping for yourselves and for your children
Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath
It was Jerusalem. He told to that they were trying to hide from the wrath
Jesus told them that's what you need to be weeping about the wrath that is going to come upon you
Don't worry about me. I can handle this
You got to worry about the wrath that you're gonna get for doing this
for the great day of his wrath has come and
Who is?
able to stand
so that is
the sixth seal up to this point showing the decreation in
Contrast to what was created on that sixth day and
So we're going through the decreation of the old covenant world
So they could come into
the new creation and the new covenant world as
The scripture says therefore
If any man is in Christ, he is a new creation
All things are passed away
Behold all things have become new
