Its starting to take shape, and I love it! With the old window is set in the door Jason built for me and the door hung into place, this old 1950s greenhouse is coming along but still has along way to go but somehow adding the new door makes this little restoration project really come to life. i know it doesn't look like much but I can see the whole thing, it will just take time.

Well hello everyone and welcome back to Carly House Flower Farm and Nursery. Today we are going
to actually be working on the little greenhouse again. We have the door finished. I went ahead
and primed and painted it and got it all ready to install. Jason is working on getting everything
kind of lined up to actually install the door. We're just going to see how it goes. I hope it
fits. I'm also going to be planting out some of my bullseye geraniums that I seeded over winter
and a few other things. So glad you're here with me and joining me in the garden.
This time of year as a gardener you are able to kind of see the fruits of your hard labor. You
have your little starts that you started back in the winter when the snow was coming down and the
rain and it's cold and you know you're just planning everything for the garden and there's
always that like new hope that you know the inspiration of pouring through all the catalogs
and the seeds that you have in ordering and plants and all the things that come with growing
a garden. I know that that is one of my most favorite things to do and I think along with
a lot of you you could chime in down below and let me know if that's a big part of the love of
gardening. It's just all the planning. But this time of year as the gardens kind of start to come
to life and it's you know especially here at the Crowley House we've been working on these gardens
for several years and we're starting to see things mature and fill in and almost fill in too much and
then you know kind of start planning okay what do I need to take out what do I need to move.
But also here at the Orchard Heights House we're working on this little greenhouse and slowly
starting on the gardens here as well. I'm kind of seeing that you know it has a lot of mature
trees it has a lot of beautiful things that are coming back and that I'm seeing it's kind of
discovering a garden and through all the weeds and through all the brambles and all you know I
can see a lot of hard work and with Brayden and I especially and with my husband Jason we've been
slowly peeling back some of the weeds and you know discovering you know these beautiful things that
are leafing out. This is our first spring here at the Orchard Heights place and working on this
project here so it's kind of fun to kind of see and then start to dream you know of all the things
that this place could be and so starting here at this little greenhouse has been kind of fun
just to have an anchor a spot that you know we start and then we kind of start going around the
property and finding other little niches and things that need work and then starting the dream
of what it will look like come you know five years and you know like at the Crowley House we've been
there for 12 years so or actually over 12 years so now the gardens are starting to really take
shape when the Crowley House used to be just weeds and so it kind of gives me a little bit of hope
here at the Orchard Heights place even with all the things that we have to do I think it's going
to come about really really nicely and I'm kind of glad you're here as well on this journey and
that I'm able to document it and bring it to you and I don't know it's going to be kind of a fun
adventure all right enough rambling let's get to planting up some of these bullseye geraniums that
I seeded in winter so this is the little garden that I'm going to be working on you can tell it's
got brambles and a dead rose that I tried to revive and doesn't work Braden planted this
little maple tree here and there's a beautiful stand of some lamb's ear which is really fun and
then you can tell the little greenhouse is right there I think that door is going to look amazing
when we get that on but Jason's still working on it so it'll be a few minutes so I'm just going to
plant this up get this all weeded out and put in the geraniums I have a little over 25 that I seeded
up that I'm just going to pop in this little garden here after I get it weeded I had done a
craft with my sister Sarah who we did it at the Portland Art Museum and it was for Monet's water
lily painting that they had on display there and so we had these like really cool paper mache water
lilies that we made and in the painting of Monet at his house he there was like a photo or not in
the painting it was in a photo anyways the photo on the wall was life-size and he had these geraniums
that were like almost hip high in in the photo and I'm not sure exactly if they were actually hip
high but I'm I'm thinking that they were probably an older variety than the new ones that come out
and that you don't have to deadhead and stuff and so what I wanted to do is kind of recreate that
and see if I could get them to grow really really big we'll see anyways so I just found you know the
bullseye and I had seen that you know I think even Laura at Garden Answer she had grown some and they
turned out absolutely beautiful and so last year I grew some and then this year I really grew some
I think I grew I think we had they're really easy to do but I think I had like 50 of them so some of
them are at the Crowley house and then some are here at this house as well well I'm planting them
now so it was a long story I'm sorry anyways my goal is that they're going to look absolutely
stunning in this little space and I think they will okay so I'm cutting out the grooves for the
hinges to sit flush with the door so I just took a router kind of cleaned it out make quick work
of it now I'm using the chisel to kind of just finish it up make it clean so a lot of you gave
me some really great tips for painting this door and one was everyone said paint it green a majority
of you guys did so I'm doing it green I'm wondering if I need this door to be a little bit darker but
as you know this is the color that we're thinking to paint the house eventually so I want to just
sit with it for a while and then I can always paint it again but I'm really liking how it's
turning out but we'll see how it all comes together so a lot of you gave me a really good
tip as far as well the paint is still kind of wet to pull the blue painter's tape and never to trust
the tape as well so I'm gonna definitely do that and then just see where we're at here I think it
always leaks through a little bit and with glass it's not that big of a deal when you can just kind
of scrape it off but I am still being really really careful and trying to stay as far away
and not get as much paint but it's really really hard anyways I'm liking the color I'm kind of I'll
I'll see more when I get it on hung up and just see how it all turns out okay so while the paint
is drying I'm going to go ahead and work on the little geranium garden and Braden has a new little
garden space that we're going to take a look at this is your last one oh I don't know no I've got
the rest of those how many that's about another 24 rows so I'm about a third of the way done
why do you ask are you uh you need something to do I just saw you over here I'm working on the
little garden greenhouse garden and saw you working oh no they look good though I'm just
faking it so in a garden like this you kind of have to give yourself a little bit of grace partly
because this has had weeds in it for a very long time and so when you're starting with something
like this you do your best to get as much as you can out and then you just have to be visual about
getting in there kind of doing your garden walk with your coffee in the morning and cursing through
things and just pulling and picking out as you go sometimes you have beds that are just so
overwhelming with weeds there are other things you can do like cover it with plastic and wait a season
it's hard to do with us gardeners sometimes you just have a troubled area that's really tricky
that is the best way to do it but today we came through this was just a grass that or not a grass
it's kind of like a little it's actually a really pretty weed that we find in the woodlands and
I think it's medicinal as well so this is the weed that is it's got a pink little flower on it kind
of looks like a geranium as well but it grows wild in the woodlands here I've heard that it's medicinal
and some people use it for something but I don't know it still stays kind of a pretty weed in my
opinion so we have a whole bunch of um these are some daffodils that have kind of gone over
and so I want to clean this up just a tiny bit but with daffodils you want to leave the foliage on
until it is dyed back and then you can pull it and this is very green so one thing you can do
you can see here I did one already is you can kind of give it a quick well okay you got to find one
little piece pull that out and sometimes I'll just kind of tuck it in on itself I kind of give
it a little twist because it makes things a little bit easier and then you just take it
wrap it around and then you just slide it under like this you just give it a gentle pull and that
will just kind of keep it a little more tidy and then we're just going to plant through a few of
these um coleuses through here on the front and then the geranium will go to the back okay so I'm
going to pull out some of these alliums they are done these are I'm not sure what variety but you
can just pull them straight out of the ground they're really cool garden art actually and you
can use them in the fall if you let them dry a little bit we also use them in arrangements um
at this point um after the purple has fallen off or in this case we have some white ones which are
still doing really good but because we're planting the geraniums we're going to go ahead and pull
the ones that are spent but they are maybe I'll leave those those look kind of cool all right I'm
going to save these let them dry we'll use them in something else so I'm going to pull this little
rose out here which is just kind of like a sucker that I don't know what happened to it but anyways
it just brain's going to pull it out we have another rose coming which is from heirloom roses
here in Oregon they're going to be sending us out a couple which is really generous and nice of them
and uh so anyways we will be planting it actually in back in this garden um later so anyways out
out will come this little rose this little sucker rose gotta get it all brayden so we're just going
to put in a little edge of this coleus that we had left over from the hanging baskets here
so we have two different types here this one has more of a kind of um a lighter colored red um it's
almost pinky hued with a lime green edging and then this one here is a darker I don't know if
you can see that with the lighting but a little bit darker and then with brighter orange on the
outside so I think the one we're going to do is called glory bit blaze which is a little bit
lighter in color and I think that's going to look really nice with the geraniums so last night I
ended up having another thing to do um off the farm off the project and so totally space pulling
the tape while it was wet so I do have a little bit of bleed through and I'm going to have to
just kind of scrape up a little bit of the paint I should have listened to you all anyways I am
just tape pulling all the tape off and then going through and kind of cleaning up the edges a little
bit and then Jason is going to mount the door for me while I'm gone I am heading to Shriners Iris
Gardens again we're teaching this morning we've got two very full classes we're just learning how
or I'm teaching basically how to put the posies together I'm just a little jar posy so it's been
really fun I saw yesterday that Laura from Garden Answer and her family came to the gardens um which
was I'm sure whoever was there was pretty like oh this is cool um I'm not really one of those people
that like fangirl over anybody but she is um somebody that I admire so it would have been
cool to meet her maybe someday I don't know anyways all right um so yeah I'm gonna just
keep pulling this before I have to go and then um head over to the gardens and then come back
and hopefully Jason will have this installed we'll see that's the plan at least didn't Brayden do an
amazing job just planting up the gardens I felt bad I had to leave him but we had another little
event that we had to go to so just a busy busy day busy week okay it was just like ah thank you
Brayden so I have some old dental tools that work absolutely amazing to kind of get into all these
little crevices and get any of the extra paint that bled off into the little like well here and
any tape that kind of stuck so it's actually working out pretty pretty well just going through
really fast getting it off okay I got the door hung needs a little tweaking still uh it kind of
screwed up here put the hinge measured it in the wrong spot so I had to redo that so it's not real
pretty there but this is all going to be changed out anyways eventually so not a big deal it opens
and closes fine I do have some plans to get a handle for it uh just kind of seal this up a
little bit better yeah it's done kind of still some more stuff to do to it what do you think of
the door I really like it yeah I like the color I think we just need to I just like the window
yeah I do too and I just need to touch up paint here maybe put a little trim piece I don't know
I know we're replacing all this eventually it'll look 100% better with new windows and I do love
the paint colors new windows and this is going to be four paned window like an actual window
and then this is going to be I think plexiglass or glass one of the two but I like how it turned
always something to do but yeah it looks really cool I need to put a latch I gotta just find one
I like I think just a little latch you need to put a little latch right here yep or somewhere
just like a little garden latch or something I think that would be cool I like the color
me too well I'm loving how this door turned out I know it's a long ways from being finished but
good things come to those who wait I keep telling myself that because I think tv and
stuff like that always shows people doing things instantly and I for one have never
been able to do that so I just go slowly and plug away at things and I think this is turning out
really nice and I do love that we put in the bullseye different geraniums and a few other
things pop through here and of course I have a new rose coming or a couple new roses so that's
going to be kind of fun to pop into this space as it transforms into something beautiful and yeah
so anyways I hope you did enjoy this video if you did please give it a big thumbs up
like subscribe leave us a comment below let me know what you think of the door
any suggestions again this is a slow progress but the 1950s old greenhouse is starting to come
together and maybe within a year or so we'll have it done so okay thanks for tagging along bye
