VAN LIFE ALONE BY THE LAKE | Dutch oven chocolate chip cookies | solo camping on Vancouver island
You don't need to give a kiss for that. We're going. I'll tell you. Good morning everyone.
I'm not 100% awake yet. I was in the bed and I don't sleep with my curtain on when I'm in the
but the sun came just poke into my my window and I woke up and I look and I was like oh
look like it's gonna be a beautiful little sunrise. Maybe I should go out.
I wanted to stay in bed so I was like did I stay in bed or did I get out and watch the sunrise
and because it's been several days that we didn't see such a nice nice sun I was like okay let's
just get up. I can have a nap later on if I want. So I'll make myself a little cup of tea. Kitty's
out too. She want to chase the bird and everything and we have starling that I just put out too
yesterday. So I thought that I would make my fire later on today but you know what it's kind of
chilly this morning and I just feel to maybe have a campfire right now. I do have a couple bundle of
wood. I hope it's gonna last me two days and yesterday I found more wood. I put that there
so nobody will come closer to my van. I put them there. They are soaking wet but maybe if I put
them in the sun they're gonna dry out and they are in the second campground over there. So I came
here yesterday. The super chilly day yesterday here. It was raining on and off so I'm glad. We're
supposed to have a couple days of pure sun. Pure pure sun and we are in a recreational site. It's
a free one. I'm allowed to stay here for 14 days. It's pretty awesome. There's several along these
big lakes of those little campground campsite and there's like more lake, more place that we're gonna
explore today. I think we're just gonna chill here and today explore more this area but on this
campsite there's only two places you can camp. Where I am and another spot right here and nobody's
there so we have this whole place for ourselves which is pretty cool. This second campsite is
pretty cool too. It's got a little bit less view of the lake itself and I didn't come here because
well I could not put my star link anyway and yeah the other one's got a nice view of the lake so
but the previous person left all this wood there so I'm gonna grab it and we should be all good for
a good portion of the day. So I always purchase some wood. People are just like why you do that?
I don't really have any chaser. I don't really have any way to really cut wood and we live in
a rainforest. It's been raining for a good two weeks so everything is soaked like this wood that
was cut is soaked. It's so hard to make a fire when everything is wet and I only have a small little
saw and saw. Oops I'm trying. I'm losing some wood. So I only have a little saw so it takes forever to
cut wood. So I always purchase one bottle and I figure out the rest. Like I have to sort out
some wood after that because obviously with just one bottle you don't go very far. So
today was a free one. Pretty fast, pretty easy to gather. And I purchased a step tool
so I can work on my van, under the hood, things like this because I'm young, I'm short so
I needed that. I was like okay it could be a second purpose when I'm beside the campfire.
Can put the drink here. Maybe I'm gonna make it a little table at one point but yeah double
double purpose. We have a good group of kayak people. Three there, three more coming here and
who knows maybe more on this way. So one of the reasons why I wanted to make a campfire early
this morning it was not to have some sap all over my hands. It was to cook my breakfast because I
didn't have breakfast yet. So it's almost lunchtime with cutting all the wood. You would
think like you know a big campfire would make me relax. No you have to chop the wood especially
when it's all wet like right now. It's just like chop the wood and some are super hard to chop.
So I'm gonna make potato, I have mushroom, I have box of sprout, I have like little piece of bread
left, a baguette bread left. So I don't know we're just gonna mix a bunch of stuff together.
It's gonna be a breakfast, lunch, brunch meal. I put a little bit of vegetable stock
and I'm just gonna cover it for a little bit. My little breakfast and some little toast to go with
it. So I'm just cleaning my pan that I had my breakfast this morning. I should have done that
before. Just boiling some water from the lake and I bought this brush at Cabaras. Oh my goodness can
I mean it's gross but just look how easy it is to remove everything.
Take two seconds and this is all clean. I really like it. I should have bought that way before.
So easy, so easy to clean. I should have bought a little table before too.
So before my fire is almost gone, I think I'm gonna go make some cookies.
All right we're gonna make chocolate chip cookies. That was hard.
All right dough is done. I was to put this in the dutch oven but I'm worried that the actual
cookie just melts kind of a little bit between the grill. So we're gonna do a test. Obviously I
cannot put like, I think it makes 12 cookies. I can obviously not make 12 in the dutch oven. So
I'm just gonna put some parchment paper. We're gonna do a test of the stove. The campfire is not
super hot right now so it should be just good without. So this is what they look like.
They mentioned that it's supposed to look undone and they gotta
hard it. All right this is batch number one. I raised a little bit the temperature of the
fire right now because we need a little bit more time. But still really good.
All right the battery of my camera is flashing right now. I guess I filmed a lot today.
I think I'm gonna go sit by the lake with a little bit of
sun left. Enjoy the rest of the day and I'm gonna let you with Miss Kitty.
Hello Miss Kitty. You want to give them a kiss?
You having a little nap? All right guys we will see you in the next one.
