Hey guys, this is Scott from Trim That Weed and today we'll talk about how to care for a marmoset
monkey. This video will explore everything you need and provide methods to care for your marmoset
monkey, so stick around for that. First, set up the marmoset's new home. Get a cage that's six
feet tall, six feet wide, and three feet deep. The width and height are important because marmosets
like jumping around. Connect this cage to an outdoor enclosure to expose your marmoset to
direct sunlight. Marmoset monkeys need vitamin D3 to develop a stronger bone structure. If you cannot
provide an outdoor enclosure, sprinkle vitamin D3 powder in the marmoset's food several times a week.
Use branches, grass, trees, swings, and platforms in the outdoor enclosure to stimulate activity.
Line the indoors cage floor with peat or sawdust, hang swings, place branches, and install a nest
box. Change this environment every week to prevent boredom. When cleaning, use a mild disinfectant to
preserve the marmoset's scent. Also clean the nest box and cage at different times to maintain the
monkey's scent. Set the indoor cage's temperature at 70F to 80F and provide shade in the outdoor
enclosure. Finally, set the humidity to 40 to 60 percent. Now let's talk about feeding. Marmosets
are omnivorous. They eat insects, lizards, spiders, snails, flowers, fruits, nectar, gum, and tree saps.
With this in mind, here's the recommended marmoset diet. 75 to 80 percent dry or canned commercially
sold marmoset food, 15 to 20 percent fresh vegetables and fruits, 5 to 10 percent proteins.
These include seeds, nuts, hard-boiled eggs, or mealworms, 2 to 5 percent insects. Also, provide
fresh water and cut the marmoset's food into half-inch square pieces. Sprinkle vitamin A and
D3 powder on its food if you don't have an outdoor enclosure. Can you train a marmoset monkey?
Marmoset monkeys hate being picked up and handled. However, you can desensitize them to handling
using treats. Put on nitrile or vinyl gloves before proceeding. First, choose your treats.
You'll need these to reinforce desirable behavior. Give the marmoset treats to get it comfortable
being around you. Lower your voice and move closer to the monkey. Do not make sudden movements. Use
one hand to hold the base of the tail and wrap the other around the shoulder, supporting the
monkey's weight and keeping it upright. Gently lift the marmoset. Place the monkey in its enclosure
as soon as possible. Please note that this process takes time. Furthermore, avoid capturing the
marmoset when it's in the nest box. Otherwise, it won't feel safe in its enclosure. Finally, here's
how to maintain your marmoset's health. Some diseases that affect marmoset monkeys also affect
humans. To prevent infection, routinely visit the vet. So, there you have it. These steps will help
you care for your marmoset monkey. Do you have any questions or comments?
