WBSN presents the very Richard show streaming live on WBSN.com and the WBSN
app. Call 508-996-0500. Text us using app chat on the WBSN app. Now the Barry
Richard Show. 81% are you serious? That's a B-grade. Hour three of the Barry
Richard Show. Brian is in today for Barry. Barry will be back on Monday. 81%.
Did I did I hear Mike Roberts correctly? The print tells me the same
thing too though. Suffolk University poll. 81% of respondents have a favorable
opinion of the job that Governor Healey is doing. Are you part of the 81%? Or are you
part of the 19%? Or maybe you have no opinion at all. 81%. You know I would if
as a guessing person, as a betting type person, if you said 74% I would have
thought well that that's about reasonable. 76 a reasonable. 81% are you
serious? Who did they survey? And no fair if they were talking to people that are
still in their diapers. Old or young. 81%. All of the things that have happened.
State of emergency. Hotels. Apartments. For people that came in out of state.
Whether they came to the United States legally or they came from another state.
All the trips that she's taken abroad. All of the times that you remember year
one. She was on vacation almost as as much as she was here. 81%. I must be
going cuckoo. You gotta be kidding me. Do you think Maura Healey deserves a B-grade?
But still a B-grade for the three plus years she's been in office. Has she
earned that B-grade? Has she's done some tussling with with President Trump? I
think she's gotten the good as much as Trump has probably gotten gotten his
licks in there too. 81%. That's that's a little much for me. And as we have been
talking we had Tim Dunn in here during hour two talking about the governor's
economic development bill. Calls for a lot of this and a lot of that. But it
doesn't call for a lot of cutting the red tape. Doesn't call for making things
easier for the you's and me's to exist here in the Commonwealth. It doesn't talk
about how she's going to rearrange the Department of Public Utilities to make
it easier for the people that have to pay gas and electric bills. It doesn't
talk about how she's going to cut government so we're not paying so much
out of our taxes as to fund every Tom, Dick and Harry. And never mind the
Mary's and the Margaret's. It doesn't really doesn't do anything. Talks about
what we're gonna get we're gonna incentivize businesses. Well what what
are you incentivizing them with? Our money. As Tim Dunn said there's three
hundred five dollars million dollars in bonds but we don't know what the total
price tag of this package is. And you wonder why people are leaving the
Commonwealth. Especially people people between the ages of 24 and 44. And what
does that really mean when people of that age group are are fleeing the
Commonwealth? That's a lot of people that would be paying into the tax system
that aren't paying into the tax system. So when it comes to things like mass
health, like it or don't like it, still gets paid out of our pocket. Here's less
money for for mass health. Or another way of looking at it is if that age group is
fleeing the state who's left paying that bill? I don't know. 80 81 that's
that's what the survey says. And I know we don't like to believe surveys but
most of the time they are right. A lot of the polls during the 2016 election were
off when it came to Donald Trump. But most of the time they're pretty darn
close. Pretty accurate. Maybe not right on the button but pretty accurate. They
the polls had Trump winning in 2024. 508-996-0500. Thank you. Good
afternoon. Hi it's Brian. Am I on? You are. I don't know what you're on but you're on.
I'm calling you from Costa Rica. Really? Okay. Yes sir. It's 97 degrees here. I came
here on the 7th. I live in Metapoisette going back another week to visit my son.
This is one place Brian that politics for some reason doesn't exist. It's just
nobody talks politics here. I'm not just talking about the guys that come visiting
but you go downtown to a restaurant nobody talks politics. What do they talk?
They talk about just making a living. It's very hot and you know the locals
work like anybody else. They were born here. They don't feel the heat like we do.
But they just go about their business. They don't talk about politics.
I don't think they know that anything about the straight or
horn moves or anything like that. Really? Maybe that's why they're
probably more relaxed aren't they? Well they are Brian. They call it here
Pura Vida. It means the pure life. That means you come here. Don't bring your
attitude or your rushness. You come here and relax. If you go to a restaurant
Brian, don't expect your food to come within 10 minutes because they'll tell
you to sit down relax on vacation. They don't rush for you.
My son lives here but I came here with my
grandchildren and my daughter so I'm sitting by the pool having a beer and
babysitting while they're at the beach which is okay. I don't mind.
And you're listening to me go on and rant and rant. Yes sir. I've been living
because I'm by the pool because I get the app. I get these so I can listen to
you and rant for quite a while. Wow. But I'm just telling you. I mean it's
beautiful. I know that what's his name Brian loves this 97 degree weather.
It's a hot weather. It's dry but you can tan in like two days.
So it's a nice place but you come here there's no politics. You
know why? Because first of all Costa Rica doesn't have an army. Doesn't have
an Air Force. They don't have a military. Costa Rica doesn't have a they give it
all up. There's just be a neutral country and that's why everybody here they it's
one of the happiest countries in the world. Just people live here happy and
you know they make a living the locals and most of the expats that are here
down they have their houses and I'm sure you can hear the birds sing and it's not
a thing. I can't hear too well but I'm gonna ask you what is the
taxing situation like down there? Well Brian this is a socialist country. It's
a socialist country but you don't have like the socialist rules but your tax is
about 40% on your paycheck. You have you have the free medical you have just
about and you have a pension when you are social security but there is no
welfare in Costa Rica. You come here there's no welfare there's no government
aid especially for you know people from other countries. Nothing at all. You come
here and that's it's not like going to the United States and you got everything
here. You come here and if you want to make a living either live or you die and
go back home. Pretty much it. You say it's a socialist country. Do they
have free elections? Yeah they just had elections. I mean I don't know if they're
free but they just elected a woman for president. I think she's a little bit far
left but they said that's not the one that most people wanted but it's a
socialist country but for some reason Brian it works because there's even
though they tax you like crazy there's no socialist rules. You can still
capitalize on whatever you want. It's a little bit different than we would call
like Venezuela or something like that. This is totally different. You know it
works here for some reason. There's capitalism but there's a socialized
medicine and certain institutions that the government runs. Yes the government
runs everything but for some they don't the reason they don't they don't have a
military budget so it's a little different. It's a nice place. It
works here because it's different. It's both. They have socialism capitalism so
it both works. It's side-by-side you know so it actually works here. It's a
beautiful place and it's a small place but if you want to come visit this is
great down here. So you're down for a vacation. Are you gonna go back again?
Do you think that you would live down there with your family? Yeah I went to my
son owns a small private school down here so I come to visit maybe once a
year and then he'll come to the United States but yeah I come here a lot. What's
he teach? He teaches. He has a small school. He teaches from kindergarten all
the way to sixth grade and it's mostly expats because people that come here
from Germany or any place in the world they have to send their kids to a school.
The kids have to be in school even though they live here six months. They go
back. The kids have to be in school for six months. It's the law so that's the
type of school he has. He just teaches from one to six. Not just him. He has a
few teachers. He has like five teachers. About 60 kids. It's a small place. And people pay
to go to that school? Absolutely yeah they pay to go to that school and he
takes he'll take like maybe two to three locals that can afford they go for free
so they can learn English and other things. So yeah it works it works well
here Brian. It works well. It's like I said it's socialist but it's capitalist
and they go they go hand by hand and the other one doesn't like step over the
other one. They both seem to do just fine. It's annoying here Brian because the
concrete truck going up this steep hill. They're building this mansion way up on
the hill somewhere so a lot of noise. Is it hard to find labor to do work if you
wanted to get a house built? No no not really. Brian like labor here there's
plenty of labor. That's most of the locals they work in construction. I mean
they work in this area to work in a service area of restaurants hotels.
What about unemployment? Is there a high unemployment rate or or is that
negligible? I'm not sure Brian but I think everybody works here like like I
said there's no unemployment to go to fall back on. So everybody has to
everybody has to like stand for themselves. Yes that's the thing with
socialism. So it works. I see everybody working. You know what I haven't seen one
I haven't seen one homeless. I haven't seen anything down here and I'm on like
the west coast of Costa Rica. It's a town called Tamarindo but I haven't seen
any I've been here like seven times. I've never seen a homeless person
anybody on the street asking for money. All right here comes my big questions.
Yes sir. What about snakes and alligators? Brian there are snakes and there's a
place called the estuary which there are alligators and and also Brian there
are a black scorpions. I was at my son's house making a an omelets in the morning
and the eggs are left outside and I went to grab an egg and in one of the empty
holes I see something black moving. It was a black scorpion but here they say
it's things like a bee you know like a bee bite. That's all right I don't need
that at all. What's the matter? Are you afraid of snakes and scorpions? Yes not that I'm afraid of
I don't want to be bit by them. No no I mean you got to remember you are in the
jungle. Costa Rica is the jungle. They're just kind of built in the jungle so
everything here has all the bugs everything you want. Jaguars. I haven't
seen a jaguar but I've seen butterflies about six inches wide centipedes about a
foot wide foot long. That's the size of things that live here but it's it's a
nice place. I've never been I've never been bitten by mosquitoes even though
they say you get bitten by mosquitoes I'm sure there are here. The only thing
get bitten if you go on the beach is sand fleas. That's why you got to spray
your legs when you're on the beach. Sounds good. Hey thanks. Yeah if you ever come
here Brian I'll give you some tips what where and well one thing you don't need
deodorant because you sweat so much it doesn't matter. You're always sweating.
It's hot so don't bring deodorant. Shorts and short sleeves. That's it. Sounds good.
Sounds like a lot of fun. All right. All right man. Thank you. I appreciate the
call. Hmm Costa Rica I've never been I have
you know it's been one of it's not tops on my list of places to want to go visit.
I have gone to Belize and it gets hot down there believe me. The closer you get
to the equator the hotter it gets. But Costa Rica I've heard many good things
but haven't taken that nesty plunge just yet. All right five five zero eight nine
nine six zero five hundred. How would you like to live in a what will we do? What
would what would a job like mine Chris Barry Ken Tim what would our positions
be like if there was no talk radio no government to be able to babble about
we'd be lost. I don't know what the newspapers write about down there but if

We have achievable goals. Once we achieve our goals. They have
achievable goals once they achieve their goals. Interesting a reporter there
was a press conference held in in Israel where Netanyahu was asked you know and
if if I remember the video correctly the reporter was stopped by one of BB's
handlers at first from asking his follow-up question. Netanyahu said no no
let him ask and so he asked Netanyahu once the endgame is achieved he didn't
ask when you know what is what's the goal what's the objective what what do
you envision things will look like this is this is what BB said. We have
achievable goals once we achieve our goals then I have argued I think and
Americans understand this very well because we're real partners I think that
what has to be done is to have alternative routes instead of going
through the choke points of the of the Hormuz Straits and the Bab el-Mandeb
Straits in order to have the flow of oil just have oil pipelines going west
through the Arabian Peninsula right up to Israel right up to our Mediterranean
ports and you've just done away with the choke points for forever. Hmm that's his
vision so in other words his vision is to cut Iran off and I suppose Oman and
some of the other Gulf nations and he says or you alluded to the to the effect
that President Trump is kind of down with the program. I don't know that the
Iranians would be down with that program I'm not quite sure folks that
are in the shipping business would be down with that but here's the other
thing most of this oil most of the LNG the gas when it comes down whether it's
through the Straits or the the Bobby as I like to call it it then turns left
to head east toward Asia India China South Korea Taiwan Japan it doesn't go
west so what is BB trying to do is he trying to get his cut is he trying to
say that Israel deserves a piece of the action what's really going on here that
that that that's one of my thoughts what's going on here when we're we're
talking about this oil what what is the in-game what's Israel's in-game what's
the United States in-game what's Iran's in-game I think they've come out and
stated their in-game is to survive what about the other players what about the
the Gulf nations do they have an in-game here five zero eight nine nine six zero
five hundred I was I was caught by surprise number one that Netanyahu was
holding such a press conference number two when the I'm gonna I don't know if
it was somebody from Mossad or what you know a bodyguard was trying to stop the
reporter from asking a pretty easy prevalent question then surprised that
Netanyahu let the question come out and then even more surprised probably
shocked by the answer that his way of his vision would be instead of that oil
coming down through the boats and going east by a pipeline it would just go west
what go west and then turn around and go east or are you gonna then decide what
oil can go east what gas can go east at something something doesn't smell right
it's almost like this Suffolk University survey that shows an 81% favorable
opinion of the governor of Massachusetts now I'm not sitting here and saying
there's not a favorable opinion I'm willing to bet that there's a 70% you
know three out of ten Massachusetts voters feel favorable about the governor
but now you're trying to tell me eight of ten I question that I'm not trying to
question the the analytics of the survey I'm just really 81% feel that strongly
that favorable of Maura Healy you listen to this radio station you would think it
would be just the opposite but I do know that there are quite a few people
that feel the same way that I do that if the election were held today Maura Healy
would win in a landslide but a landslide would be 76% of the vote 81% that would
mean that 19% would vote for either nobody or anybody but her and I'm
finding that very very difficult to swallow might be true again and I'm not
trying to say that the survey is screwed up maybe I'm trying to say that the
people that answered the survey are a little screwed up 81% and this is the
same governor who has an economic development bill that she's gonna send
to the legislature and it's Tim Dunn stated here in the program it will
probably pass through the house and through the Senate they'll probably make
a couple of you know changes to it but the governor will eventually sign off on
it give you a little here of what it you know you can see Tim Dunn story at the
Boston Herald the legislation includes a 300 excuse me a 50 million seed
investment meant to attract global capital into Massachusetts based
companies 50 million seed investment excuse me but I've I have stated
constantly wouldn't you like to have your cut of that 50 million dollar seed
investment to maybe invest into your kids college to maybe pay down your
mortgage or to pay your rent maybe to pay off some of the escalating utility
bills that we've had over the winter time couldn't you figure out something
worthy to do with that 50 million maybe your cut could help take you off of food
stamps and even if you're on food stamps does it really cover the grocery bill
how about investing that money back into the taxpayers who paid that money out
governor but no and and people they hear stuff like this the common ordinary
voter who probably doesn't like to listen to politics or listens to guys
like Jim Browdy and they say oh what a great idea 50 million dollar seed
investment that's really gonna help they're gonna sprinkle that into
businesses and the business is gonna go out there and they're gonna hire people
they're gonna pay him great wages etc etc that my friend is a bunch of crap
you know it and I know it what else is in this the bill also includes other
investments including 100 million 75 billion to expand the application of
artificial intelligence across key industries hmm now pardon me if
artificial intelligence is all that and I believe it really is very good I also
believe it's gonna end up taking a lot of people's jobs why can't the artificial
intelligence companies do this without the governor taking 75 million of our
tax dollars to help seed it don't you get the feeling that you're getting
screwed here I mean screwed chewed and tattooed what else let's see let's see
the 75 mil to expand the application of artificial intelligence across key
industries wouldn't you like to know what those key industries are and to
invest in emerging technologies like quantum computing 25 million dollars is
for Massachusetts robotics cluster and 25 million provides capital support for
companies expanding or constructing facilities in the state a lot of money
getting tossed around here courtesy of the governor that's how competitive
Massachusetts has become we have to toss money into artificial intelligence to
help build up that industry that's gonna help take out jobs we have to get into
quantum computing whatever that really means the money never seems to come back
I you know some of you listen to my show on a Saturday a few Saturdays ago when I
talked to this guy from New Hampshire who explained how things work up there
I really do believe and I know it's not happening or if it does happen it's not
gonna happen anytime soon but I think we really need to push to be more like the
state of New Hampshire with no sales tax and no income tax meaning that there's a
and there's a city or town property tax but that's under the control of the
people you'll get people going out to vote you'll have people going to these
meetings because then they decide how much they want to spend on schools how
much they want to spend on road improvement etc etc and the roads that I
drive on a New Hampshire and I admit I don't drive on them all the time but
every time that I do they always seem to be really good roads whether I'm
driving in a Portsmouth or Manchester or a Concord and I can compare those cities
a little bit to driving through Fall River or New Bedford or or Framingham or
Dartmouth you know Boston they take better care of their roads because the
people say this is what they want the money spent on and the people in office
sure that the money is so spent we're here we don't get that luxury we're told
that if you want to do a mile of highway it's gonna cost a million dollars to
repave it and then even when it gets repaved it looks like crap so what are
we doing here what what why are we throwing good money our hard-earned
money after bad why do we keep on enforcing and building up government
governments I know you feel the same way but your feeling is you'll never get the
people here in the state to change and you're probably correct those that are
already in office they're not going to change because things are going their
way so we have to get people running for these offices that will initiate the
change that want the change because the last thing you want to see and I know I
want to see is a a Commonwealth or a country that turns out to be like the
Soviet Union if we lose the midterms and we lose 2028 some in this room are going
to prison myself included WBSM this portion of programming on WBSM brought

back to Barry Richard on WBSM call 508 9 9 6 0 500 the supply chain is not part
of the economy the supply chain is the because of the Washington Post calling
on us to be murdered wow that was that was a big one that I heard over the week
you may recall that there was a meeting between the vice president and Steve
Woodcuff and Jared Kushner and the Iranians of which Mirani the person you
just heard there was a US citizen was a part of the entourage for the Iranians
he lives in Iran he works in Iran and although he wasn't in the tight
negotiations he was around the people that were doing the talking and I'm
trying to piece this together there is this reporter communist for the
Washington Post I believe who actually called for the entourage the Iranian
entourage to be killed to be murdered and I'm I'm trying to think they're
sitting there negotiating and you're calling for these people to be killed
Max Blumenthal he has a better concept of what went on he knows the particular
Washington reporter and this is what he stated the other day I believe he made
the comment with judge Napolitano the Pope made a statement he says wrong one
meanwhile one of Donald Trump's top allies who is actually one of Netanyahu
his top assets in the US media Mark Thiessen at the Washington Post called
for the US to kill Iran's entire delegation which included our friend
who's an American citizen Mohamed Morandi really man that's that's what
has come down to now you've got journalists out there calling for these
people to be killed and if you kill them who's next in line to negotiate what
what are you expecting what what is this guy Thiessen expecting it but then
you find out not only is he a close ally to President Trump but he's also a
confidant of Bibi Netanyahu we've got a lot of stuff going on in our political
world I kind of wish I was still talking to the guy who's down in Costa Rica they
don't talk politics down there and imagine this you know the caller stated
that there's no military in Costa Rica I guess they're not worried about
somebody invading their country can you imagine no military in the United States
being that secure in yourself you know Costa Rica is a small country the United
States is rather large but could you imagine us without a military now I
think that we need a defense and I would like to think that somewhere if Costa
Rica was ever invaded by some country that they would be able to defend
themselves and I think that we need a common defense and I think I think our
Constitution calls for that but if you could for imagine knowing that we are
spending eight hundred billion plus a year a year on defense maybe we could
cut some of that off and have some money for giving back as I would like to say
give it back to the people I I would rather have the money come back to me
and me figure out what to do with my health care me figure out what I want to
do for my retirement then have the federal government dictate mandate how
how my Social Security money is gonna accumulate and that I need to have
Medicare and all that other stuff I would like to think other people feel
the same way I believe we're in that in that zone where people have just given
up on thinking along those lines that's how out of control government spending
government's spending has become whether you look at it on the local level or the
state level and certainly the federal level again I I'm not I'm not really
saying I don't want a defense what I'm trying to say is I want a a defense
around our perimeter I wanted I want to be able to protect the United States of
America I don't want to be the world's policeman we've got nuclear weapons if
we ever would have to use them I think we're pretty well protected I don't know
that we need 800 million and 800 bases around the globe and some of that money
along with many of the other domestic what I call poverty pimp programs I'd
like to cut them too but I don't hear the will of the people I hear people
saying well we spend too much on food stamps no argument I hear other people
we spend too much in defense we spend too much on a lot of things and we never
seem to get to where where we really want to be and I think that's part of
the change that I would like to see ASAP well it's time for me to pack up the
bags but I'll be back
