During the Dragon Boat Festival, Bai Suzhen accidentally drank realgar wine, revealing her true form and frightening Xu Xian nearly to death. After regaining consciousness, Bai Suzhen was filled with grief and decided to go to Mount Kunlun to steal a sacred herb to save Xu Xian. After facing many dangers, she ultimately succeeded in reviving him.
News that Bai Suzhen was a demon spread throughout Lin’an City, and she suffered persecution from the townspeople. Xu Xian, in order to protect Bai Suzhen, swallowed the evil medicine Wanling Dan, turning into a monstrous form, and was taken away by Fahai to Jinshan Temple.
After Bai Suzhen gave birth, due to her grave sins, she was imprisoned beneath Leifeng Pagoda. Bai Suzhen was confined because of love, while Xu Xian practiced medicine and accumulated good deeds to save his wife. If they wished to be reunited, it would only be possible when Leifeng Pagoda collapsed and the waters of West Lake dried up.
