What's going on guys? Welcome back to the channel for another great day. Today we're going to be
painting some brake calipers on my BMW 750i. Now obviously all these steps and the process will
apply to any make and model. Maybe the car may not apply to you guys but at least the process
and the steps will apply to any make and model. So if you follow these steps you are going to
achieve the same results that I will get out of the video today. So I'm going to show you guys
right now the products that I chose with and what I went with and I actually got all these products
off Amazon because you know Amazon makes it easy and convenient to get stuff now so they just
deliver to your door. So all these products I'll link down below if you're interested in doing this
yourself. So let's go ahead and get into it. Alright guys I'm behind the bench. We have all the products
that we'll be using in today's video. We're going to start off with the purple cleaner. You can get
any kind of degreaser just to spray down the caliper to get all the brake dust and dirt and
stuff off of there. At least to get it loose. So we'll spray it down with this first and then let
it soak for a little bit and then we'll use a variety of wire brushes to get all the hard stuff
that doesn't want to come off and I may use a wire brush on a drill just to kind of speed up the
process as well. So this you can do as well if you wanted to but you don't have to. These wire
brushes will work just as well. Once we do that guys we're going to clean it down with some acetone
and the acetone really can help get the surface nice and clean of any of the oils or grease off
of there as well so it gets nice and clean so the paint can adhere to it. So this is some really
good stuff. You can use this or some brake cleaner as well. You don't have to use acetone but that's
what I have here available. So as far as the painting guys goes I'm going to start off with
some metal cast. This is kind of a must-have especially if you're going to use paint on a
surface that's not chrome so that way the paint can adhere to it. This metal cast. I only bought
one of these cans for all four sides because I'm going to put light coats of this stuff
and as far as a primer I mean I only bought one as well because I feel like one can will go a long
ways as far as putting light coats on there. You don't have to put a whole bunch of coats on there
especially heavy coats on the caliber. Now as far as paint goes guys here's where you have different
options. You definitely want to stay in the metal cast style because at least the anodized style
because it kind of gives you that shine okay like this. So there's different variety of colors that
you can pick. I went with this blue. This one's called blue anodized so this is actually a pretty
nice looking color. It's kind of like a BMW look as far as OE style for their calibers. So I went
with two of these cans just in case I want to go pretty thick and then right before I put the clear
I'm actually going to put some of these decals that I got off of I think Etsy that I might have bought on
these. They were like six bucks. They're cheap anyways. I'm going to put some of these decals on
the brake caliper right here on the dust shield so it kind of gives it that kind of like that
Brembo OE style look on the caliper and then once I do that I'll go ahead and spray it down with
some clear. Now obviously you don't have to put decals on yours if you don't want to if you don't
have BMW or maybe you don't choose to and that's just skip that stuff you can skip. But yeah this
is I'm going to use some clear. You definitely want to use a clear at the end. This is going to keep
at least make that shine on the metal cast pop and it's going to make the paint that all the work
that you just did today in this video or at least in your car will make the paint last forever. So
this clear is a kind of a must-have and I got some painter's plastic. This I picked up actually
from Home Depot. I've had this for man I've used this stuff. This stuff goes a long ways. I've done
two truck beds as far as like bed liner and two truck beds and wrapping a whole truck. I've done
two trucks and still have a whole bunch of that stuff. I think it cost like 20 bucks but it goes
a long ways. So I'm actually going to be using this to wrap the stuff that I don't want to get
paint on. So yeah let me go ahead and jack the car up and let's get ready to start cleaning.
So before I start cleaning I'm gonna go ahead and put the cardboard down to catch all the
trash and residue that comes off the calipers. So I'm gonna go ahead and start spraying these
calipers down with some of that super clean and letting it soak for a little bit and then we'll
do a little wire brushing. Let that soak in for a little bit and then we'll start wire brushing it.
All right you can already tell that that stuff is actually cleaning it up pretty well. It's
getting a lot of that stuff out there right now. I need to help it out a little bit. Obviously the
prep work is what's going to give you the best results. So the key is in the prep work guys.
Take your time here. Get it nice and clean. Obviously you don't have to get it like spotless
but you need to get at least as much of the brake dust and trash and dirt off of there as much as
possible. This wire wheel will help speed up the process a lot faster. So if you have one of these
I definitely recommend it. If you don't go ahead and pick one up because it's going to help you
save a lot of time. All right guys so once we scrub it down with our wire brush we got it nice
and clean. You can go ahead and wipe it down with a clean towel and see where you've missed. If you're
doing this in the driveway I recommend go ahead and just rinse it down with a water hose if you
want to and then dry it down. That way you can see where you've missed. Obviously I could take the
caliper off guys and show you guys how to do it but I'm trying to do this more of a user friendly who
don't want to take the calipers off your car. So I'm going to leave it on the car to kind of make
it more relevant to everyone else. Now you can also turn the wheel away from us so the caliper
will be facing us. You can also do that as well. I'll probably do that here in a little bit.
Anyways so once we wipe it down go ahead and get a clean towel get our acetone and we're going to
wipe it down and make sure it's nice and clean of any oils or residue. Get ready for the metal
cast spray. So let's go ahead and do that. All right guys now that we're done cleaning
yeah it's hot. We can move on to the next step and that is taping. So this is another crucial step
guys we want to make sure that we tape off everything we don't want to get paint on
especially the rotor surface here. We don't want to get any kind of paint on the rotor surface
because it's going to cause a lot of squeaking and issues with your brake pads. So we are going
to tape off everything inside here with some of the painter's wrap and the paint the tape.
So let's go yeah and start taping. All right guys so we got everything pretty much taped off here
as best as we can. We got the rotor the suspension and part of the fender here
taped off so we don't get any kind of over spray over it and we got the brake line already wrapped
up also as well so we don't get any kind of over spray on that. I do also want to mention guys if
you do get a little bit of paint or over spray on your brake rotor it's okay if you do you can
use a dietary cloth towel and some acetone and rub it off and it'll be fine but we're trying to
eliminate any more steps afterwards. We got this metal cast shaking up pretty well now we're ready
to go ahead and put a couple light coats on to our brake caliper here. So we're gonna go ahead
and just put light coats guys nothing too heavy we don't want any runs or anything crazy so we
three and then one nice heavy coat. All right we are ready for our primer let's go ahead and put a
couple light coats of this as well and then we'll be ready for the paint so the metal cast is looking
good and actually everything's looking really really good so far so go ahead and hit it with
a couple light coats of the primer as well like we just did with the metal cast and let that dry
and we'll be ready for the paint. All right guys so I ended up putting our final coat of primer
on there and everything is going good nice and smooth look at that finish man see how the prep
it's all in the prep guys and it'll turn out smooth like this nice and clean. So I'm gonna go
ahead and start shaking up our blue here to get ready to spray a couple light coats as well I'm
gonna do probably three light coats and then maybe a couple heavy coats that way it gets nice and
thick on there so it'll last a long time and then we'll let it dry. I do want to mention while I'm
shaking up this can and getting ready to spray I am doing both sides at the same time so I'm doing
the passenger side and I'm also doing the driver's side as well at the same time and
then I'll go ahead and knock out the back together as well so I'm doing both of these at the same
time. Let's go ahead and put a couple light coats first that's our first light coat we'll put a
couple more light coats and then we'll get some heavy ones on there. Our second light coat all
right guys just hit it with the last coat of the anodized blue and man this thing is looking
really good wow man with the clear it's gonna make this thing pop really nice. So I'm gonna let it dry
I'm probably gonna go type a little bit because it's gonna take a while but it's dry it's kind of
hot out here and I'll go ahead and put the decal on the little shield here and then we'll hit it
with the clear what that's gonna do is gonna once I put the decal on there and I clear over it
it'll keep the decal from falling off with the water and stuff like that so it'll make it last
a lot longer and the paint as well so I'm gonna let it dry and then we'll hit it with the clear
this is a really crucial step as well guys if you're gonna be adding a decal to your caliper
you definitely want to make sure that the caliper is nice and dry before you put the decal on because
if you put the decal on and you go to rip it off it's gonna pull the paint off as well so it's gonna
basically ruin everything you've done to this point you have to start all over again but so
I'm making sure that this is really really dry I kind of remove as much of the excess
I guess the backing as possible to just leave the emblem on there so it doesn't rip off the actual
paint so we just leave the emblem on there so I trimmed off as much as a bit as I can
I'm gonna go ahead and lay it on there and peel it off nice and slow
all right little razor blade here kind of help keep the emblem on there so if the emblem starts
coming off we can go ahead and just make sure we tap that down with the corner cool all right guys
we are done to the final step we are ready for clear so I've shaken up the clear enough and now
I'm gonna apply it to the caliper I'm gonna put uh light coats as well like we did before
and three light ones and then we'll put two a couple heavy ones and then we'll finish it off
like that and you will be done so let's go ahead and hit it with the clear all right that's our
first light coat all right so the last coat of clear was added about 20 minutes ago and I think
it's pretty good pretty dry so I'm gonna go ahead and start cleaning away all of the tape and the
the plastic here so we can go ahead and expose uh the caliper and the rotor and see where we
got over spray because I'm pretty sure we got over spray on the rotor a little bit and go ahead and
we got a little bit on the rotor here so I spin the rotor forward a little bit
see where we got some paint there we're gonna have to clean that up before we are done but yeah
besides anywhere else we didn't get any paint anywhere else everything else looks good
uh so let me get some of that acetone and just clean this up really quick
be very careful here not to hit the caliper that we just painted all right guys got the car pulled
out on the driveway show you what it looks like with the wheels on this thing looks good man look
at this yes it looks really good it's gonna look even better when it's rolling look really nice
so I got the front two done now it's gotta do the back
just the same as the front I'm not gonna bore you with that basically just follow the same steps
like you did on the front and you get the same result in the back all right so the front came
out really good and I just started on the back but for a lot of you guys who are asking how much
material have I used so far just for the front uh I don't think you guys would need more than
one can of metal cast and one can of primer because I still have quite a bit of this stuff
left enough to do another car probably uh as far as the clear and the paint I definitely suggest
two cans because I use quite a bit of the clear up on the front and quite a bit of the blue on
the front as well even though the back is a lot smaller doesn't use as much paint it's probably
just better to use uh you'll get two cans of each because depending on how light or how heavy you go
on the caliper on the front you may run out of paint so I suggest getting two clears and two
of the paint that way you have plenty of enough but like I said two of the one of these each is
enough for you guys to do I'm gonna go ahead and link these out below guys and you guys can go
ahead and choose whatever color you want and the amazon cart uh if you guys found this video
