Hi guys, welcome back to my YouTube channel.
Today I figured I would just draw a portrait for you guys.
I haven't made a video yet where I'm just drawing portraiture, but I love portraiture so, so much.
It's my true love. I love it so much.
If there only could be one art style or anything, it would be portraiture.
I just love faces and people are just so beautiful and they all look so unique.
So, this is what I just drew of this girl from the other day.
She looks like this. She's cute.
I just realized I didn't draw her other under eye, but it's alright.
I'll just zoom that in whenever.
Yeah, she looks like this. She's really cute.
She's just a girl off Pinterest.
No idea who she is.
If she sees this video, I hope you enjoy the portrait I drew of you.
Basically, I'm just going to paint it with some gouache paint.
I already have my palette out.
I think that was kind of ugly, but whatever.
So, I'm just going to get into painting it.
If you guys want a tutorial on how I paint my portraits at all, let me know in the comments below.
But yeah, really let's just get into painting because that's what we're here for.
We're here to do some art.
Okay, so painting this portrait was pretty difficult at the beginning.
I'm starting this solely because of how I was painting the colors for the skin tone.
I'm having such a hard time mixing the skin tone, which is pretty crazy.
Normally, I don't, but I'm pretty sure it's because she has like a brown skin tone.
I'm not afraid to admit, I don't paint a lot of people with brown skin tones and darker skin tones.
The majority of the people I do paint have pretty pale skin.
So, it's definitely something I've been wanting to work on.
Last month, I painted two portraits with people with darker skin tones.
It's something I definitely, definitely need to practice and work on especially because I love portraiture so, so much.
I need to practice drawing people of different ethnicities.
So, if you guys have any celebrities or a backstory or darker skin tones that you would want me to practice,
tell me in the comments below because that's definitely something I really need to work on.
I've been having such a hard time with this paper too and also with this painting the skin tones.
Because, I don't know if I'm used to paper or painting which is like,
once in a while I'll do, you know, once a week.
I have this really good picture where it's like, scratchy.
But, if I'm making portraits, a light wash and a smudge,
that was the only thing that I could work on.
That was the only thing.
It was really, really scratchy.
So, that could not happen if I was using, like, a lot of colored paper for the paintings.
So, it's really just like a normal canvas.
This paper does not, like, washes the color well at all.
And that is just when I've been using a lot of color.
It bleeds into my paper and it, like, goes onto the paper underneath.
It's just really a normal, I can not recommend this paper for watercolor at all.
And really, I'm just not using it that much at all.
This is just really frustrating and it's just,
alright, let's just be honest.
In this case, I used a lot of chisel tip paintbrushes.
And it's something that I've been using a lot more in my artwork for the past year or so,
especially for portraiture.
And I would definitely recommend this for anyone who struggles with getting just the shape
and the focus too much on the portraiture, just because of the way I would definitely start out
with using a chisel tip, and then gradually make your way to more fine tip paintbrushes.
Okay.
I've been thinking of this video concept for a couple weeks now,
and I just want to know if any of you are interested in it.
It'd basically just be a video of me painting,
but over top of me doing a voiceover on, like, a subject,
trying to inform you about that subject.
So it could be a lot of different topics.
It could be about something science-y,
or maybe, like, something that's been happening recently,
or just things that I just kind of, like, hook up in my mind.
I'm like, how does that work?
How do people even discover this?
Like, I think of that all the time.
I'm like, I think language is crazy.
My mind is crazy.
I would love to do a video where I just discuss the evolution of language,
or even the evolution of humans, or different artists, and their techniques.
Maybe I could give you some of their techniques in a video.
So just let me know in the comments below if this sounds at all interesting to you guys to be with.
This hair was such a fast way to paint,
because as I said before, the brush on this paper is, like, horrendous,
especially when it's watered down.
So at the beginning of painting this hair,
I first did a couple layers of just watered-down brush,
but then it just, like, there's so much hair,
and the gouache kept on not behaving in really wonderful ways,
and it's just like, ugh, I could have worked on this more,
and if the paper isn't, like, all crappy and terrible,
you know, I really could have made it much more beautiful than it has to now.
I definitely do like the hair, I like all the texture,
but I don't think it really shows off.
The curliness of the hair in ways that I've done so previously with people with curly hair,
so it's definitely something I want to keep in mind for the future,
and I definitely want to start painting outside of my sketchbook more.
In the last video, I believe I mentioned I was working on a face,
so I've been kind of setting that aside for maybe a month now.
But while I'm on canvas, I definitely want to draw at least,
well, at least watered-down paper, and not so much on my sketchbook,
because the sketchbook is not made for gouache, it's not made for wet mediums,
so it definitely doesn't look the way it actually should,
and I don't want to be entirely with that,
because I want to make pieces outside of it.
I want to make pieces that aren't necessarily portraiture,
but have more of an illustration,
and that's what I definitely do like.
I really do love illustration, and portraiture,
but it's not definitely my true love in art,
so it's definitely something I'm going to try and actually create a piece,
and not necessarily something I can put in my sketchbook,
but something I can put up on my wall.
Okay.
Okay, so my mic stopped recording here,
so I'm just going to do a little voiceover.
But basically, here's the final portrait.
I think she looks really cute.
There's definitely things I would put to my face.
Her chin and her lips definitely look weird,
but I'm pretty happy that I decided to go in
and use colored pencils to really get those details
that I didn't want missing from this piece.
But I really just hope you enjoy this piece,
and if you guys want me to do a portraiture tutorial,
just let me know in the comments,
and I'll definitely include a video just for that.
So yeah, thank you for watching so much,
and I hope you have a great day,
and go and be creative and do some art.
Okay, bye-bye!
