The Los Angeles Dodgers franchise, with nine World Series championships and 26 National League pennants since its beginnings in Brooklyn in 1890, is committed to a tradition of pride and excellence. The Dodgers are dedicated to supporting a culture of winning baseball, providing a first-class, fan-friendly experience at Dodger Stadium, and building a strong partnership with the community. With the highest cumulative fan attendance in Major League Baseball history, and a record of breaking barriers, the Dodgers are one of the most cherished sports franchises in the world.
Right now you see sunshine and blue skies above Coors Field. Earlier it was dumping snow
and a brisk one 32 degrees. Maybe we'll creep up toward 40 before first pitch.
It actually took the grounds for about five hours just to get this field ready for the
game this evening. At first the guys their reaction was it's like a winter wonderland
playing in the snow a little bit of a snowball fight but then the reality of we have to play
a baseball game and 30 degree temperatures came in and that is what is going to be the
challenge this evening. Skipping to the mound Tomo Sugano as he will stare down the Dodgers.
It'll be his second appearance in Coors Field. His first appearance was a terrific one against
a very good Phillies lineup just one run over six innings. And of course the first man he'll
face is a guy he knows well from Team Japan and also back home in their homeland Shohei Otani.
They've met on one occasion two at-bats for Shohei and Shohei hit two home runs. He has a
48 game on base streak the longest active streak in the majors and the fourth longest
ever for a Dodger. He also has a 16 game hitting streak at Coors Field. So he has all of that
confidence as he strides to the plate facing a pitcher that he has owned in a small sample size.
Otani wraps it into right field. He's thinking two out of the box. Here's the turn the throw in
is cut off and Otani slides in with a leadoff double. So now five for six with four extra base
hits against Sugano. And Otani has now been on base in 49 straight games. They get Tucker
but Otani moves to third on the out. Now Will Smith. Right center field. Doyle running over.
He makes the catch but that does get the job done. A sacrifice fly and the Dodgers on the board first.
You wonder what the mind is like for Tyler Glasnow making his fourth start of the season
or his first ever start at Coors Field in these conditions. Yeah you'll have to get used to
watching the ball come out of your hand. He has thrown the ball well the expected ERA is two and
a half. One out walk another left-handed batter T.J. Rumpfield. Runner goes the pitch cut on and
missed strike three. The throw down to second not in time. Nearly a strike him out throw him out
inning ending double play. And that's a four for four opposing stolen bases in the attempts off
of Glasnow. Got it. There's the curve. Hammer down to end the first inning and Stray and Moniak's
walk. Top of the second inning one nothing Dodgers and Max Muncy to lead off. I asked Max on a scale
of one to ten how miserable are you right now in this weather. He goes he did not give me a number
he just looked at me he goes well it's not great. Fly ball right center field Doyle turns and this
ball's gone. Miserable Max you kidding Muncy loves this weather. It's a home run for Muncy
and the Dodgers lead it to nothing. Home run number five for Max in his 214th as a Dodger.
Well pass out the dark tinted glasses. The one thing about layers of clothing when you
play baseball it does make you feel like you're going to be short and quick you're going to be
tight easier to really concentrate on keeping your mechanics together and this is a short quick swing.
He knows he got it but it's cold and there's a lot of humidity in the air
and is it going to travel far enough over a double wall.
And it does. Two out single for the Dodgers second baseman and that gets Ohtani up.
Ohtani loops his second hit of the game. Freeland will hold up station to station
back to back singles. The Dodgers have something cooking with two away in this second inning.
Got it. Went upstairs with a four seamer and he strikes out Tucker with two aboard.
Two nothing Dodgers bottom of the second inning Ezekiel Tovar
lead off against Tyler Glass now. Tipped into the glove strike three. That's three straight K's for
Glass now. One out in the second. The Rockies have had trouble offensively as a team hitting a 237.
That's 17th on a 2-2. Sullivan strikes out swinging four in a row for the Dodgers right hander.
Throwing strikes and attacking the strike zone early and getting the ball put in play
Oregon that quick strikeout. This was with a deep count but they much appreciate that.
You feel like they would be in a better mood when they go try and get you some offense.
So now runners at the corners and Max Muncy at the plate.
Muncy down the right field side. Fair ball just inside the line.
Smith scores. Freeman stops at third. An RBI double for Muncy and the Dodgers add one more.
Now three to nothing. Joe Hay with a single and a double. Now Max with a home run in the double.
Two guys building towards a cycle and this one is right down the line.
Karam was pretty soft which kept Freddie Freeman at third and especially with one out.
Andy Pajas the batter. Two men in scoring position infield comes into play halfway.
Pajas jumps on the first pitch to left center field. Doyle makes a leaping catch.
Plenty deep enough to score Freddie Freeman on a sacrifice fly. Muncy also tags and moves to third.
And the Dodgers have built a four to nothing lead. And it is up and in. He buzzed the tower.
And Karras draws a lead off walk and a board for Colorado here in the bottom of the third.
Wave and a miss. We'll take that all the same. Another strikeout for Glassnow. He's up to five.
Julien born in Quebec City. There he hits a ground ball to second. Freeland up with it.
Backhands to Kim. One on the first. A little bit offline but Freddie makes the tag on the way by of Julien.
And that is an inning ending four six three. Double play. We go to the fourth in Denver.
It's the Dodgers four. Rockies nothing. Tucker's got his first hit of the ball game. It's a long
double. And the Dodgers with a runner in scoring position and one out. Will Smith has been
productive. He's one for one. Sacrifice fly and a run batted in in the first. Smith on the screws
in a left center field. There will be a green light for Tucker. Dino Ebel is sending him.
No throw home. RBI base hit Will Smith. And a five nothing Dodger lead. Will hit this ball really
hard. But it's not at an outfielder. They both had to kind of go over to the left center gap.
But Dino's creeping down the line bringing Tucker with him. And now he's saying come on.
As soon as he saw it was going to be McCarthy picking the ball up on arm strength and angle.
He said yeah you can make it easy. First pitch. First hit of the game for Colorado.
It's a double for Moniak. Will retire rump field. Moniak does advance from second to third.
Troy bounces it to third. And I tell you what. For a moment. Once he thought about coming home.
Because his momentum was going to the plate. Fortunately he did not. Moniak scores. The
Rockies have their first run. A really nice outing. Last time out for Zach Adnos. He'll make
his seventh appearance of the year. It was outstanding against Houston the last time he
pitched here at Coors Field. And facing Max Muncy to get things going in the top of the fifth inning.
Muncy swings. Hits a drive. Deep right field. Maxwell swinging the silver hammer.
Off the facing of the upper deck. He's got his second home run of the night. It is six to one.
Off the facing of the second deck. Stop at third or miss home. Give up the cycle. Take the bomb.
I told you what you normally would do if you get hot here. Two doubles and two home runs.
It's hard to get the cycle even though there have been 18 in the history of the park.
Oh a short quick powerful. This one pulled. The other one was to center field.
That's a bomb. Second time he's let off an inning with a home run. Max Muncy.
Still nobody out of the inning. Here's Alex Freeland. First and third. Freeland pops it
in the air. Left center field. Slicing over toward McCarthy. Pajas is going to tag from third.
And he will score. McCarthy's arm is very weak. And they have run on it to go to third. They've
run on it to get Tucker from second. And now they score on a very routine sack fly that really
should have just been an out. Two down. Base is empty. The Dodgers are 13 and 0 in the last 13
starts made by Glasner. Sits him down. Another strikeout for Glasner. Another clean inning of
work. Alex Glasner still on the bump. His side leading seven to one. He's allowed just one hit
one run. There's one away. Strike three called. Corner catches the curve. And Glasner has seven
punch outs. Right center field. Pretty well hits. Got carried to it. And it's off each of Tucker.
It'll be the second hit of the night for the Rockies. The Tovar double is eighth of the year.
Ground ball to second. Handled by Freeland. The two out double is stranded. Seven sensational
innings for Glasner. Now just 11 pitches in the seventh inning. Go to the bottom of the ninth
inning. Left handed Jack Dreier will face the top of the order. Edward Julien will lead off. And
Nicky Moniak. And he missed high ball four in the pitch. Swung out. A little ground ball to first.
Freddie charging. He'll turn. Throw to second. They'll get the force out there. Kim will return
throw to free and cover him. But it's too late as Moniak beat it out. They get the lead runner.
Three strikeouts for Dreier. And ten overall for L.A. pitching. Troy Johnston will try and
keep it alive. First pitch. Fly to right center. Andy Pajes makes the call. And the catch. That's
a win for L.A. And the Dodgers take care of business here in Colorado tonight as they
beat the Rockies in game one. They go to 15 and four. The Rockies drop to seven and 13.
