Pearl farming is so empowering to me.
I feel honored and grateful to nature.
I have the opportunity to influence other women.
That we can also do this kind of job.
Hi, I'm Tessa.
I am a pearl technician at this farm.
And I've been here for 17 years.
So this morning, I wake up early at 5 a.m.
Usually, I start my day with a dive.
So this dive is an inspection dive.
of a newly operated oyster.
As a diver, the ocean to me is a world of endless wonder, a realm of silence and motion, where light dances through the depths and time seems to dissolve. It is both a sanctuary and a challenge, a place of profound beauty and hidden dangers, where every breath beneath the surface feels like a conversation with the planet itself.
is my teacher and my therapist.
Once I reach the ocean,
I am healed and comforted.
Hi, I'm Cheche.
I am a marine biologist.
And I have been working at the company for 20 years.
Here in the hatchery,
We are responsible for oyster production.
our breeding and rearing
the newly born gold-leap or white-leap oysters.
Joel Merr actually pioneered
a sustainable pearl farming method
where oysters are bred in a protective environment
rather than extracting them from the wild.
So because of this,
We were able to give back to the ocean.
Pearl farming has a significant impact on the environment.
It increases biodiversity.
and the density of the area.
Therefore, our net serves
as the artificial breeding ground
of other marine species.
Hi, I'm Nithleen,
one of the farm managers
I have been working here for over 14 years.
As a farm manager,
I oversee various types of people.
from pearl farmers to marine biologists
security and maintenance
The undeniable quality
of a woman who can contribute
to the cultivation of South Sea pearls
is our maternal care.
And we meticulously apply the TLC.
or tender love and care to our oysters
through our gentle touch
because this is absolutely essential
in the delicate process of pearl farming
I am currently in the lab.
Checking all shell conditions
And he is currently performing a pearl seeding operation.
And right after the pearl seeding operation,
The shells will be placed in an eight-compartment net.
And all of these technicians
are performing the pearl seeding operation.
So right after the operation,
All the shells will be returned to the ocean.
The most exciting part of being a farm manager
to be able to work closely with nature
and to be with people who share the same passion.
The sense of community we have here
that we are passionate,
We are hospitable.
And we care for each other.
For me, I feel humbled, proud,
And this is also a major opportunity.
To work with Mother Nature.
The legacy I want to leave
for the people who work here
and for the next generation
is the Bayanihan spirit.
Bayanihan is very important in our community.
Because of this,
We were able to overcome the challenges.
The community comes together to help one another.
