I Landed My Plane at the World's Busiest Airport
6 Video Views·Apr 16, 2026
This is me flying my Cessna 150 over downtown Atlanta,
and this is Atlanta's international airport, Hartsfield-Jackson,
where thousands of jets carrying hundreds of thousands of people take off and land every
single day. And in this video, I'm going to see if ATC will let me land and see what it's like
on the ground in my Cessna 150, surrounded by massive jets at the world's busiest airport.
Why? Well, because ever since we landed at LaGuardia, I feel pretty good about landing
at big airports if the conditions are right and I'm well prepared. And for as long as I've been
a pilot in Atlanta, I've avoided the Class Bravo airspace at all costs.
Now, I'm finally ready to give this a shot and see what it's like. But to actually land
at Hartsfield, I'll need to get permission to enter the Atlanta Class Bravo airspace,
get sequenced in between the jets flowing in, land and navigate the complex taxiways
all the way to the FBO, and pay the infamous landing fee of who knows how much.
Number 22318 Peachtree Tower, left turn southeast crew, runway 21R, clear for takeoff.
Left turn southeast, clear for takeoff 21R, 22318.
Okay, let's go land at the world's busiest airport, folks.
Cessna 22318, appreciate it, crew.
Alright, see you later.
Thanks for doing it.
Okay, so to actually pull this off and not cause any problems for ATC,
I decided to take off VFR during a low traffic time at ATL.
Now the plan is to get the current weather information at Hartsfield,
call up Atlanta Approach, sound as professional on the radio as I possibly can, and ask if I can land.
Alright, we've got Kilo, we've got the weather at Hartsfield,
so I'm going to go on to Atlanta Approach and ask them if we can do this.
Let's see what they say.
Atlanta Approach, Cessna 22318.
Second, Atlanta Approach, say again?
Yeah, Cessna 22318 with a VFR request.
22318, say your request.
22318 to Cessna 150, we're 8 miles southeast of PDK at 2000 southeast bound.
Wanted to see if we could go full stop at Hartsfield.
We've got Kilo.
Number 318, roger, we're maintaining VFR for now outside the Bravo.
VFR outside the Bravo, 22318.
That is not a no.
One of you was just like, nope.
Alright, we're below the airspace now.
We said to stay at 2000, airspace is at 2500 above us.
22318, it'd be at least a 30 minute delay to come into Hartsfield.
Okay, roger, we can make that work if we just hold somewhere out here, if that works for you.
22318, roger, just remain outside the Bravo, you can check back in 30 minutes.
Alright, we'll stay outside the Bravo, call you back in 30, 318, thanks.
Number 22318, Atlanta Approach, squawk 0141.
0141, 22318.
This is it, folks.
We got a code.
Okay, we haven't been cleared into the airspace yet,
but getting a squawk code means they're accepting us into the system, so it's looking good.
Number 318, radar contact, 1-8 miles east of Atlanta, Atlanta,
sender is 3019, information Kilo is current.
Alright, we've got Kilo, 22318.
Number 318, turn right, right heading of 1-8-0.
Right turn heading 1-8-0, 22318.
Number 22318, expect runway 2-8.
This is unwelcome news.
The controller just said to expect runway 2-8.
Now, I've always imagined landing at Hartsfield,
they'd put me on the northernmost runway, 2-6-right,
because it's right next to the FBO, so it's a super short taxi.
Runway 2-8 is the southernmost runway, 2 miles from the FBO,
which means once we land, we'll have to navigate a maze of taxiways filled with jets
and cross four runways to get to our parking spot.
And I'll be honest, that makes me more nervous than the landing.
22318, fly heading of 2-4-0.
2-4-0, 22318.
22318, you are cleared into the Atlanta-Bravo airspace,
maintain your present altitude.
Alright, cleared into the Bravo, maintain 2,200, 22318.
22318, traffic, 11 o'clock, 2 miles northwest,
final via Spirit Airbus, descending to 3,000, currently at a 4,300.
Traffic in sight, 22318.
Roger.
Spirit 579, turn left direct Jebba, airport, 11 o'clock, and 12 miles.
Alright, left turn direct Jebba, field in sight, Spiritwings 579.
Spirit 579, cleared visual approach, runway 2-8, maintain 1-7-0, and out to Jebba.
1-7-0, Jebba, cleared visual approach, 2-8, Spiritwings 579.
22318, turn right heading of 2-8-0, follow that Spirit Airbus,
and proceed direct to runway 2-8, shouldn't wake it up.
Alright, right 2-8-0 behind the Airbus, 22318.
22318, as always, keep the speed up as long as you can.
Best rate as long as we can for 318.
There it is, folks.
The busiest airport in the world.
I wonder if, I mean, look at the taxi, the taxi's like literally over a mile.
I wonder if they're even going to let us do that.
Right.
Cessna 22318, thanks for flying to the fun known as Hartfield, contact tower 119.5, good day.
Hi, 119.5, thanks so much for the help, we appreciate it very much.
That was pretty cool.
I'm losing my mind.
Okay, that was not a pretty reaction.
Afternoon, tower, Cessna 22318, runway 2-8.
Cessna 22318, target afternoon runway 2-8, cleared to land, wind 160 at 8,
caution wake turbulence following an Airbus.
Alright, cleared to land, runway 2-8, 22318.
This taxi's about to be nuts.
Cessna 22318, target afternoon 2-8, cleared to land, winds 200 at 7.
Cleared to land, 2-8, Alpha.
Cessna 2318, turn left on Sierra Gulf, then turn right on Sierra Charlie.
Alright, left Sierra Gulf, right Sierra Charlie, 22318.
Not there yet, folks.
It's legit like a city over here.
This is not what I expected, I thought we were going to be right next to Signature.
We're on the opposite side of one of the biggest airports in the world.
Okay, straight ahead on Sierra Charlie, hold short of runway 27L.
Okay, straight ahead Sierra Charlie, hold short 27L.
Okay, we've got a lot of ground to cover very carefully.
I need to listen closely and follow instructions exactly all the way across the airport.
Cessna 318, just hold right there.
Alright, we'll hold here, 318.
Cessna 318, monitor 119.3.
Monitor 119.3, 22318.
I'm kind of glad we got the long taxi, we get like a ground tour.
Cessna 22318 at Sierra Charlie, cross runway 27L, make the left turn on November.
Alright, cross 27L, left on November, 22318.
Okay, we're on Sierra Charlie, we're crossing 27L, and we're going to go left on November.
N318, make the right turn there, make the right turn on November,
then hold short runway 27R at Uniform.
Alright, we're right on November, we'll hold short 27R at Uniform, 22318.
N318, go ahead and hold right there, and monitor tower on 123.85.
Alright, we'll hold here, monitor 2385, 22318, thanks.
We're getting handoffs from towers as they get us across this massive airport.
This is nuts.
I'm losing my mind.
Oh my gosh, look at that.
Whoa, that's right there.
N22318, Atlanta Tower.
Tower, 318.
N22318 at Uniform there, cross runway 27R, join Lima,
join Lima, and then ground 121.75, so a right turn on Lima for you.
Alright, cross 27R and right turn on Lima, 121.75, 22318.
I think we did it, y'all.
Let's go see what this fee is about to be.
I'm sure it's not going to be friendly.
When we walked in to pay the landing fee, it kind of finally hit me what we just did,
and honestly, this was one of the coolest things I've experienced in over 10 years of flying.
Thanks for coming along.

Huge thank you to the controllers at Hartsfield, and the landing fee, surprisingly just $39.
