We’ve gone to great lengths to source high-quality teas, so it’s important to prepare them properly to bring out their full flavor.

Start by warming your teapot with hot water. This prevents the pot from cooling the brewing water too much, ensuring the tea infuses correctly. Swirl the water around, then pour it out.

Next, add your tea. Store loose tea in an airtight container, away from moisture, to preserve its quality. The traditional measurement is one teaspoon per person, plus one extra for the pot. For two people, that means three teaspoons.

When it comes to water, always use fresh water. Reboiled water loses oxygen, which results in flat-tasting tea. If possible, use filtered water to remove impurities that can affect the flavor. Bring the water to a rolling boil (100°C), but avoid over-boiling, as this also reduces oxygen levels. Once it reaches a gentle rolling boil, remove it from heat and pour it immediately over the tea. Cover the teapot to retain heat.

Allow the tea to brew for at least 5 minutes. While the color develops quickly, the full flavor takes more time to infuse.

After brewing, give the tea a gentle stir, then pour it into your cup. Enjoy it however you prefer—black, or with milk, lemon, or sugar.

And that’s how you make the perfect cup of loose-leaf tea.
