Hailey Baptiste vs Jessika Ponchet 2026 Rouen Round 1 WTA Match Highlights

She gets it done. A hold of serve to kick things off. Oh yes, the first break point opportunity of the contest. Staved off by the fourth seed. Potentially a big surprise on the cards because the fourth seed Hayley Baptiste has just lost the opener against the world number 170. Jessica Ponce has one foot in round two. She did really well there to readjust. Brought into the net by... Okay, she's got the mini break. She's got the hold of serve. She's up and running. Just the power doing the damage. It's a battle out there. Oh, she was caught flat footed. The lob doing the job and Baptiste takes set two on a tiebreaker and that means we will have a single set shootout to decide which one of these two will reach round two. What a point. Wrong choice. Baptiste was alert to it and she gets the break. It is the fourth seed who strikes first in the decider. Yeah, she's inching her way towards victory now. Looking rock solid in the decider for Jessica Ponce. A valiant effort. The last year's quarterfinalist is dispatched. Hayley Baptiste coming from a set down. The fourth seed putting her place in the last 16 with a three sets win. She comes through in the end. 3-6, 7-6, 6-2.
