Fire that spread during a planned burn today on Westover Air Reserve Base is
now under control. According to Westover officials, a prescribed burn was
conducted by wildland firefighters from the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service in
coordination with base officials when it briefly escaped its planned
boundaries. At around two p.m. The fire burned local vegetation and plastic
materials and a storage yard near the installation fence line. Nearby, an
industrial facility also caught fire, but it's unclear at this time if they're
connected. Utilize the state has Matt team for air quality monitoring in this
area, um, adjacent areas and then some homes that were much further down the
road. Um, and just happy to report that there were no negative findings in the
air. The wind conditions being what they were afforded a lot of those things
that kind of go up in a way and not down in people's homes. As of 4 45 p.m.
The fire on the base was under control. Fire crews remained in the area to put
out hot spots. No injuries or damage to the base have been reported. The cause
of the fire is being investigated.
