If let's say we're doing even something simple such as dip with the hips, which is supposed to
be looking sexy and smooth, if the shoulders are tense, this is what it will look like.
Welcome back to my channel or welcome if you're new. My name is Manneka and I teach adults how
to get better at dancing in social settings. If you are uncomfortable on the dance floor,
you feel like you don't like the way you look dancing, you look maybe stiff or uncoordinated.
At the end of this video, I will tell you how we can work together if you're interested so we can
get you the same transformation. If you haven't seen it yet, I created a free 45-minute training
where I'm explaining my method of teaching and how I help thousands of adults become confident
dancing in social settings. I'll post the link below, you can check it out after this video.
When you're dancing, it's very important that the body is loose because even if one body part
looks stiff or rigid, it will impact how everything else is looking. And to loosen
up the shoulders, I recommend using them when you're dancing because the more we move them,
the sooner those muscles loosen up. So I'm going to show you a couple of movements that I recommend
that you can start with for the shoulders. I will also link my shoulder moves playlist below so you
can check it out. There will be a lot of options there as well. For this first movement, we're
going to use a simple footwork step, simple two-step because here we don't care as much about
the feet. They don't have to do anything too complex. We care about the shoulders. Next thing
we're going to do is we'll twist in the same direction that we're moving. And I add the twist,
I add the torso because if we move just the feet and the shoulders, it will look ridiculous. It
doesn't look natural at all. So I always like to add a little bit of torso. And then as I'm
twisting, let's say I'm going to stop here so you can adjust. As I twist in the same direction that
I just traveled, I'm going to lift the opposite shoulder up just a little bit. It will be just
a little accent. So let's say if you mirror me, if you go to the left, you twist to the left,
you're going to raise your right shoulder. Okay, so we have one, two, and then switch.
You're going to the right in your case, and then left shoulder pops up. One, two, one, two,
one, two, and one, two. So again, it's just a little groove. It's not a complex movement
with the shoulders, but the shoulders add something to this motion, right? It's just a little
accent. With the music, it will make more sense. We're doing three actions at the same time. So the
feet are getting together, we are twisting, and then the shoulder goes up as well. This shoulder,
see that? So three actions at the same time. Feet are together, we're twisted, and the shoulder
pops up. One, two, one, two, one, two, one, two. Keep the movement small. Small step, small twist,
just a small angle here. And then shoulder, notice I'm not lifting all the way. You can do bigger
movements with the shoulders when you warm them up, but not when you're dancing, because it will
look a little bit ridiculous. So that's enough. The next movement with the shoulders that I like
to do is the shoulder roll. As we travel in one direction, what's going to happen is we'll still
twist a bit that way, but the shoulder will go up and then forward as you're doing the step. Maybe
let me show you the shoulder roll first. It will look like this. So again, I'm lifting, pushing it
forward and down. Just our forward roll from the warm-up, that's pretty much what we're doing,
just smaller. So feel that movement, not a very comfortable one. Then when we connect it to the
step, it looks like this. Up as you step open, forward and down when the feet are together,
and then we'll switch. Up and roll. One, two, one, two, one, two and one. So it will be a nice and
smooth movement once we get used to it, but it can be for now disconnected. You have to get the timing
first. So again, lift on one when the feet are apart, down on two when the feet are together,
and we're twisted a little bit. One, two, one, two, one, two and one, two. Let me show you with the
music. Feeling rigid and tense is a common problem that hundreds of adults come to me for help with,
and this is what I fix inside my online program Confidence Through Dance, because it's not enough
to know the moves. If your body is stiff, those movements won't look good on you anyway. If you
are uncomfortable on the dance floor, you feel like you don't like the way you look dancing,
you look maybe stiff or uncoordinated, and you'd like more help, just like my client Nick,
who when we first started working together was very tense and just didn't look good dancing
out there. After just a couple of months inside my online program Confidence Through Dance,
this is how he's dancing now. If you're interested in how I can get you the same transformation,
feel free to book a free consultation with me. You will find the link below this video.
We'll see if we can work together inside my online program. I will also post the link to my free 45
minute training that will explain my method and how I was able to help so many people over the
past 18 years. So definitely check it out. If you like this video, don't forget to give it a like.
Let me know in the comments should I create more videos just like this one to help you look looser,
to help you feel relaxed dancing, and I'll do it. Comment below and I'll see you in the next tutorial.
Bye guys!
