~ Haiku: Beneath Blooming Trees 👑🪈🌴

Each morning, the exiled swordsman rose with the mist, knelt at the edge of his barren garden, and pressed his hands into the stubborn soil. The seeds never sprouted. Still, he worked the earth, then limped to the village’s edge to feed the stray dog that waited in silence. When the sun was high, he returned to the porch where his inkstone sat untouched, and stared at the words he had written long ago:

Beneath blooming trees,
ghosts whisper in falling leaves...

The final line never came. Not after ten years of silence. Not after the wars, not after the graves.

The swordsman was clearing weeds near an unmarked stone when an old man appeared—stooped, trembling, sword heavy in his grip. “You killed my son,” he called, voice brittle with grief. They stood in stillness, now two old men, neither with strength left to carry what they had lived through. The swordsman gave no answer. The old man raised his blade with both hands, the weight near breaking him. And in that moment, the swordsman saw the haiku whole. As the blow came, he stepped back, and let his fingers fall from the hilt.
