Mayan Street Food!! Guatemalan Market Food Tour in Chichicastenango!!
On my fourth day in Guatemala, in partnership with Real Intercontinental Guatemala, I explored Chichicastenango, the most famous Maya market town in the country! 🇬🇹 We started early and drove three hours west, stopping first at the Arch of Gucumatz, a symbolic entrance to the Maya underworld.
Walking through the bustling market, I tried fresh orange juice, pupusas, and homemade ice cream, all bursting with flavor! We visited the Maya cemetery, explored the poultry market, and shopped for hand-carved masks, textiles, and souvenirs. At Santo Tomás Church, we saw the fascinating mix of Catholic and Maya traditions.
For lunch, we dined at Maya Inn Hotel, enjoying Culche and Pepian de Pollo, a traditional dish of the region. Finally, we stopped at Iximche, an ancient Maya archaeological site rich with history. This incredible journey through Guatemala’s food, culture, and traditions is one you won’t want to miss!
