It's the Cleveland Guardians in town for three on what is expected to be a gorgeous weekend here
in Atlanta. Both teams come in with identical eight and five records, both having won three
of their last four series. There was a huge line outside of Truist tonight because the unveiling
of those beauties, the new City Connect uniforms. So many incredible memories and now this new crop
of brains in an old uniform made new. Try to make some memories here in 2026. The man himself,
Dale Murphy, who helped make that uniform so famous throughout the first pitch tonight.
On the mound, third start of the season for Bryce Elder and CJ, he is off to a tremendous start.
He certainly is. And for the Guardians, they put all those lefties and switch hitters in there.
Bryce Elder has been excellent going back to last year. Lefties hitting just 229 against him.
But all together, what really jumps out in 13 innings pitched thus far, 13 strikeouts,
two walks, no earned runs, and a really good start here in 2026. And this guy at the plate,
Chase DeLauder, rookie, already has five homers tied with Drake Baldwin and a couple of others
for the major league lead. Payoff pitch out to center field. Harris has all the colors going
out there. Two down. What are we watching in this matchup, Elder and Ramirez? Really difficult to
strike him out, right? You're not looking for a swing and miss unless it's going to be outside
of the strike zone. You saw that first pitch slider that was backdoor. Now you just saw a
changeup for Chase. You're going to keep that out of the zone. If Bryce Elder throws his four-seam
fastball to Jose Ramirez tonight, it has got to be in. They say ball four, but this will be
challenged by Drake Baldwin. I thought it may have missed, but I didn't think it missed by that much.
The strike zone that you see is based on the height of the player. That brings Kyle Manzardo
up to the plate. Swing and a miss. A slider gets Manzardo. That tuned up slider getting the job
done. First strikeout of the night for Elder. We go to the bottom of the first inning. Slade
Ciccone on the mound for the Guardians, making his third start. First one, he didn't feel real good.
Didn't have good velocity. Second one was outstanding against the Cubs. Ronald Acuna
leads it off for Atlanta. Hit well. Right center. Back is to water. At the wall, makes the catch.
A loud out off the bat of Ronald Acuna. One down. This guy has had no trouble hitting the ball
out of the park this year. Five home runs. Time for the Major League lead for Baldwin.
Swing and a miss. He goes down. Hackett and Slade Ciccone has his first strikeout two down in the
first. Two down, nobody on. Here's Matt Olsen. Olsen has now played safely in 795 consecutive
games. Hasn't missed a game. Weak bouncer up the middle. Charged that short. Roccio in front of
second. Gloves it. And the shortstop throws Olsen out. An impressive 1-2-3 first for Slade
Ciccone. Reese Hoskin leads off for Cleveland here at the top of the second inning. Check swing. They
appeal. Strike three. Checked in down the line with Chris Conroy, the crew chief. Two strikeouts
now for Bryce Elder. Juan Brito, one of six Cleveland players ever to have two doubles in
his first two career games. 1-2 pitch. Bouncer up the middle. Ozzie to his right. Jump throw to first
base and Matt just picked it for the out. That is spectacular. How about the extension and then
realizing he had to hurry and a throw on the money and not surprising to see Matt Olsen with the pick
on the other side. Slade Ciccone facing 789 in the Braves order starting with Dominic Smith.
Smoked up the middle. Base hit in the center. Turned around a curveball and he's got himself
a hit. That's the first hit of the game for the Braves. Here's Michael Harris and Michael's going
to loop one in the left center field in for a base hit. Smith around second and holding there.
Now the bottom of the order has been a spark plug for this lineup. They've done a wonderful job all
year. So Smith at second. Harris at first. A couple of singles to start the bottom of the third.
One down back to the top of the order to Ronald Acuna and the 2-1 pitch. A little broken bat
liner up the middle in for a base hit. That'll drive in Smith. Harris advances to third. It's an
RBI single. Almost look like Ronald hit that twice. He did. Oh my. Can't teach that.
Third hit of the inning and it's 1-0 Braves. So now first and third. One down for Drake Baldwin.
Drake has been tearing the cover off the ball. 15 RBIs this season.
This could be two. Get him out of the inning. Rocchio kicks the bag. Goes to first to double
up Baldwin. A tainted run for the Braves but they lead 1-0. Kyle Manzardo the batter.
Kyle Manzardo bangs one deep right center field. Goodbye. That ties the game at one and gets
Manzardo on the board. His first home run of the year and it was a no doubter. 454 feet.
His first extra base hit. My goodness good for him. He had just missed in his first head bat
down the line. He got out in front of a little breaking ball. That one no doubt.
As he ties this game at one it's late. Ciccone another strikeout for him. His second on the
night. Two down in the inning. 3-2 pitch. Swing and a miss. He got him to go fish. Side retired.
Albies down on strikes. The third for Ciccone. We head to the fifth. Angel Martinez popped up on
the infield first time up tonight. Liner to left. Now Jastrzewski racing it. Can't get it. He plays
it on a hop. And Angel Martinez with a one out single here in the fifth. He's off to a good start.
He came in hitting 3-10. That'll help. First and second. And you've got two on with one out.
Runners in scoring position for Kwan. Hitting 500 coming in. Base hit left field. Around third. Angel
gets the stop sign. Then the fumble with the ball by Yaz and he scores easily. And everybody moves
up 90. Boy that turned out to be terrible for Jastrzewski and the Braves because he wanted to
throw it and he lost the ball and he was held up. So he continued. So you're going to see a good
play. It's going to be an error no doubt. And everybody moves up. You got now on second and
third. They held him. Now go. Now he hits his cutoff man. But great hustle by Kwan.
Roccio behind him. So they really took advantage of this error. And now the bases are loaded.
And they are loaded for Ramirez. Got it. That two seamer really fooled Ramirez.
Last thing he was looking for. It's that late movement that you get from Bryce Elder. Watch
where this pitch starts. Look how Drake Baldwin by the way has set up. That is really nice. Right
on the block where he can start that pitch and let it come back in. And just tying up a really
good hitter in Jose Ramirez. Two down here in the fifth. That is going to be the night for Bryce
Elder. He leaves with the bases loaded in a two to one ball game. Walt Weiss opting to go with
a lefty against Manzardo. Gets him to pop up. Dubon calls off Riley. And Bummer does his job.
He gets the left handed hitting. Manzardo. Slade Ciccone with a two to one lead. Faces Ronald Acuna
Jr. Ronald Acuna hits it high. Come until game 14. But it was worth the wait. I'll tell you this
he has not been a good dance partner for Slade Ciccone. He's had some really hard hit balls
against him. Had that RBI single in the third. The out that he made in the first inning he hit
to the wall. Yeah right. Good to see you Ronald Acuna Jr. We've got a two two tie. Drake Baldwin
with a single and the bats coming to life. Now all of a sudden you've got the go ahead man on it.
Here's Matt Olson. Swinging three out. Escalated quickly. Three batters into the bottom of the
sixth. Two homers and a single. And Atlanta has a four to two lead. The facial expression
of Ronald Acuna Jr. told you everything you needed to know about that home run. I'm gonna
call Stackhouse a liar at 441. That was a bomb. That hit the roof right. That cleared everything.
He hit it so high C.J. That was unbelievable. You see something you like you go after it and
Matt Olson liked that and went after it. My goodness. And look who's here loving all of
the action here in the sixth. Brian Snitger. Everybody. Braves are picking on those three
and oh counts and Riley's got a base hit. Still nobody out. And that is going to be it for Ciccone
who through his young career has had troubles when he gets through the lineup a third time
and that was the case tonight. Riley 90 feet away now from home plate. RBI chance for Dominic Smith.
And that is going to stay for Don Smith. RBI single and it's five to two Atlanta.
Dominic Smith with his seventh RBI. His second hit of the night. And the eighth man to bat in this
ending is Michael Harris. This ball is. It is an 80s party at Truist and everyone's invited
in those powder blues. Michael Harris at 425 feet. He knew it right away when he hit it and
these guys are having a good time right now. Six runs on three homers in the six for the Braves.
That's two walks in the inning. Two on two out. Ozzie Albies at the plate looking to do some
damage. He's 0 for three. Ozzie up the middle. Send him home Tommy. Here comes Matty O. He scores.
It is eight to two Atlanta. That was RBI number six for Ozzie Albies. So now every single Brave
has reached base tonight. They have pounded the Guardians tonight. Runners at the corners now and
Don Smith who's two for three with an RBI hit at the plate. And Don Smith slaps it to left. It's a
three hit game for Smith. It's a seven run lead for Atlanta. So the Guardians making it a little
more interesting than Walt Weiss was hoping for here in the eight. Dallara gets his second double.
And Cleveland has scored three times this inning and all of a sudden it's a nine to five ball game
and Walt Weiss looks like he's going to make a pitching change. Now it's Higham so you're
hoping can strand these two. Out to left center here. Harris and he adds over. It'll be Harris.
Man can he cover some ground. Down to second base Dubon. One down. Here comes Drake Baldwin.
Baldwin strikes again. It's going to produce another run. The Braves are in double digits.
It's ten to five and Baldwin this year has now driven in 16. Two outs and now Riley to the plate.
Riley drops it out in front of Martinez. Drops the ball. Gets to second. Baldwin scores easily.
It's an 11 run outburst for Atlanta tonight. Brave strike for two runs. They do so on three
hits. We go to the ninth. As things get passed on to Oswaldo Beto and he's done a good job here
so far in his three games. So Cleveland's got a runner on. Hard hit. Olsen there. It's a second
for one. Double play. That's Matt Olsen the gold glover who does this so extremely well. Not just
a throw but the footwork there to put himself in a good position to make that throw and get back.
Perfect to Dubon. Beto's got him down to their final swing. Tough guy to get it on. The veteran
Ramirez. The seven-time All-Star. Most everybody here at Truist Park is up and on their feet.
Beto trying to close it out. Well struck. Long run for Harris. He gets to it. Braves win.
Michael was outstanding defensively tonight. Made some great catches and the Braves surge
in the sixth inning for six runs and kept tagging on runs the further we got into the game
and they take game one over the Guardians.
