Meghalaya STREET FOOD Breakfast TOUR in Iewduh Market - Non Veg INDIAN Street Food | Shillong, India
In March 2019, I spent two weeks exploring the northeast Indian states of Assam and Meghalaya, starting with a deep dive into the food and culture of Shillong, Meghalaya’s capital. With my Khasi friend Paul as my guide, we toured the historic Iewduh Market—Meghalaya’s oldest—sampling a fried jaggery pastry with mint tea, exploring sections dedicated to vegetables, meats, fish, and more. At Nat Khasi Restaurant, I feasted on rice with pork, pork liver, intestine sausage, Russian salad, and a fiery chili with fermented soybean chutney. We wandered through bustling beef, pork, fish, and poultry markets before ending with traditional rice cakes and snacks at a local café. It was a raw, flavorful, and unforgettable breakfast adventure in the heart of Khasi country.
