One of the best things about traveling to India is the food. The first time I visited the country in February of 2018, I went crazy trying as many dishes and sampling as many different flavors as I could. Now, with my third trip to India in March of 2019 quickly coming to a close, my mind has been opened up to even more foods that I never knew existed. I can’t wait to taste more of what this country has to offer later this year!

With just a handful of hours left in India, I couldn’t start my journey back to Miami without one last hurrah in Kolkata. I had the time of my life exploring the states of Assam and Meghalaya and made memories I will have for the rest of my life. But now it was time for me to head to the Kolkata airport and enjoy a late-night dinner of southern Indian food!

I started with a 40-minute ride to the airport, where I would then catch my 6-hour flight to Qatar, have a 3-hour connection, and then fly 16 hours straight to Miami. I’d be flying Qatar Airways,, which is one of my favorite airlines in the world.

I got in my Uber and left New Market. It was still pretty active even thought it was after midnight. It would take 43 minutes to get to the airport.

Flying to Asia is rough because it takes so long to get there from Miami. It always takes at least 24 hours of traveling to get to places like India and China.

Unfortunately, my Uber driver didn’t help me unload my bags from the truck at the airport, so I had to do it myself. In India, you must have your passport and ticket ready as soon as you arrive. I checked in and ran into a group of fans. It happens almost every day in India and I’m so grateful to all of you for supporting me!

I checked out some gift shops for some souvenirs for my daughters. I found some cool masks for only $5 U.S. and nice goods like bamboo products and bangles. There’s also a food court with lots of southern Indian options. I bought a masala dosa with aloo, chilies, and onion inside. It was served with sambar, mint chutney, and coconut chutney. I love this meal so much!

I also got some filtered coffee, which almost tasted like chai. After a sip, I dove into the dosa! The coconut chutney was so good and the dosa was nice and spicy. I love coconut chutney so much. The meal cost me 270 rupees, or just under $4 U.S.

This dosa reminded me of some of the ones I ate in Hyderabad. It had my mouth watering! Dosas are usually crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Then I went for the sambar, which is a nice, tomato-based soup. I also loved the mint chutney! The coconut chutney was so amazing, I ate some by itself! I also had more coffee even though I needed to sleep on this flight!

Then it was time to board after an hour-and-a-half wait. It was scheduled for 3:15 a.m. and I was sitting on the emergency aisle. I had tons of leg room and was right by the bathroom. I made a new friend who’s moving to Kuwait! After a 5-hour nap, it was nearly time to land in Qatar. The flight on the 787 Dreamliner was super smooth.

Because the flight was delayed in Kolkata, I only had 20 minutes to catch my connecting flight. My friend Rahul wasn’t so lucky, as his flight to Kuwait was already boarding. I had to run to my gate and caught it as it was boarding. Crazy! Security had to go through my bags and look through everything, but I made it!

Qatar Airlines is the best in the world. There’s so much room and tons of entertainment options, including 200 movies, TV shows, games, you name it. The food is also top notch and the drinks are unlimited! Economy class flights from Miami are about $1,000 U.S., so it’s the best option if you’re on a budget.

For brunch, I went with Indian food: paratha with pindi chana chole and a spinach croquette. It was super tasty and fluffy! I also got some red wine to help take the edge off. The chole was amazing!

After a 4-hour nap, I had dinner: limb biryani with butter, chocolate, and vegetables with couscous. You also get a packet with a toothbrush, eye mask, toothpaste, lip balm, and more. I slept almost the whole way to Miami!

And that’s it! After a 30+ hour travel day, I was back in the Sunshine State!
