This New Avinox Motor Is Crazy.

Here at Pinkbike we've deemed today International Avanox Day and that's because they have a brand
new motor. This is the MS2 and it has, yes, even more peak power and more torque than the original
one that kind of broke the mold and changed the game for e-bikes. If you want to check out all
the bikes we're launching today with that new motor head over to the home page we have all
the links in the show notes below. This is the T-Wing Flux. This is a high pivot long travel
carbon e-bike. It is a bit of a monster truck. It has a 180mm fork, 178mm of travel out back
and if you don't know what T-Wing is I'm going to tell you all about the brand, the bike,
and what this thing does on the trail. So I mentioned long travel, I mentioned carbon,
but the essence of this bike is the Avanox MS2 motor. This has even more power. It has up to
1500 watts at peak and even more torque than the original motor. It has 150Nm, that is 25%
more than the previous bike and way more than anything else out there. Okay so I haven't ridden
this thing yet but at first glance what really caught my eye was the high pivot. This is totally
different than the other T-Wing bike that you might have seen before, it's already been released,
that is the Turbo Force Pro. This Flux however has more travel, it runs on mixed wheels, it can
take a 29er and it's just very beastly. There aren't too many e-bikes out there using a high
pivot so I'm really curious to see how this first tracks on the trail and then holds up in the long
run. If you listened to any of my e-bike rants before you would know that I'm a big advocate
of long travel e-bikes and with slack angles and a lot of travel this bike really caught my eye.
So what are we waiting for let's get to it. Okay so we're getting up for a little first ride on the
T-Wing Flux and if you hadn't heard of T-Wing it's probably because they only make e-bikes.
They started with their Turbo Force Pro, that's the 150 model, I'm on the big travel high pivot
mixed wheel bike. The Flux is definitely a very powerful bike. I just almost looped out in front
of those people. We're gonna go up the old steep climb here. Yeah, a ton of traction.
This is quite the weapon of a bike. It's not the craziest slackest bike but there are a
when you do so you will lose travel going to the bigger wheel. You gotta go
down to 170 mil travel but there are other adjustments. There is a high low
flip chip said to work for either wheel size but just sitting on it in the shop
mixed wheels in a low position it's quite slack and the chain stay on this bike
is already short. As you can tell as we go through that switchback and burn out. Now
part of that is because yes chain stays short but this is the new Avanox MST motor
so it has a ton of torque. If you are used to their old bike you've probably noticed
you're reaching the limit of how much torque you want on an e-bike. You definitely have to
go through those different modes when climbing or you will be spat on your ass because it is
very very torquey. There are two build kits for this bike so I'm on the higher end one.
They both use a carbon frame. They both have the MS2 motor. They both have the older style
800 watt hour battery that's internal for the frame but you can still achieve
the full 150 newton meters of torque however you don't get the bonus 1500 watts of peak power. You
say only because that's a lot more than most e-bikes already. So the whole time I was climbing
up the climb trail I was in auto mode which sort of governs the motor for how fast your legs are
spinning. Kind of times it with the cadence but now we're going to go up the steeper road
I'm going to put it in turbo. I mean even compared to the MS1 Avanox motor
the original it really separated itself from all the other bikes out there and this thing is like
another step above again and the biggest difference is on these roads just how much easier
it holds speed gets you up to that speed using the extra torque and just keeps you at the higher
rpms for longer. Really curious to see how the new motor matches with the old battery tech
because the new one is said to draw more ants so I'm curious to see how those will sort of
stack up in the long run and how much battery this will actually use compared to the old motor.
In the eco talk about some downhill chat what the geo is like. I guess I could start by the bike's
weight. I mentioned yeah it was a big old long travel bike this thing in a stock form
weighs 48 pounds I think it was 22 kg on the dot so slightly heavier than
the Amplo bike that we reviewed last year
and yeah I would say right now pretty easy to get on with definitely feels short out back
some of these corners that are flatter a little drier like that one there
kind of feel the rear wheels start to skate a little bit 27.5 wheels so smaller
a bit less traction do the corners here
yeah a little bit of front end pushing but back in speeding away on that berm
but again first ride so we'll see how uh what kind of adjustments we need to do to
dial this thing in a bit or maybe drop the front end a bit big old 180 fork
I could also mention that I guess this has the XT Di2 derailleur so we reviewed that thing on
its own before and it was a bit clacky on this bike it's quite a bit quieter which is nice
pleasant surprise probably has to do with the chainstay being out of the way a little more
high pivot a little bit more understeer there so yeah gotta stay on it for those flat corners
yeah I think this thing's gonna be really fun more tighter terrain
maybe even a couple pre-ride hits and stunts but yeah right off the bat getting along with it
with the advent of the MS2 that I'm on right now the MS1 is not going away and I think that's
gonna stick around as more of a budget friendly motor you might see it on some more entry-level
bikes which is kind of crazy to think that even that motor is already way more powerful and torquey
than the top end Bosch the top end Shimano SRAM it's really leaving the other players
in the dust quite literally take it down something a little more subdued see what it's like on this
thing nice rolly blue trail it's got a bit of a rework late in the winter but this is where
you know I would think a long travel e-bike gonna falter a little a bit more lethargic a little
heavier to pick up on rollers jumps gonna be a little bit more dead a bit more travel to work
but yeah you can still get a couple rhythms here this thing is
maneuverable with that short chainstay you do want the 29er you just flip the chip grab another wheel
chuck that on definitely not faking those poles right now
this motor is supposed to have less resistance which ultimately should mean it's more
efficient should be the battery less than the ms1 and they also said they decreased the amount
of noise from the clutch in terms of rattling I never found that to be
bothersome on the old bike but it's nice to see that they're thinking of it as a concern
definitely grasping knots on some of the Shimano specced bikes
all right down filling cams this will be the the noise test for you this is a pretty blown out
rocky trail definitely a bit of a test for the old brakes too
chunderfest I'm digging this bike already I think pretty playful for one comfortable quiet
still pretty maneuverable obviously very powerful
and good bottom out control okay that was one heck of a first ride on the t-wing flux
I mean climbing this thing I was totally blown away this new ms2 motor is even more torquey
and powerful than the original Avanox motor which is already a step ahead and the rest of the bike
I would say it's quite comfortable it's a bit one-sided in terms of the geometry definitely
points you towards the steeper rowdier tracks but it's pretty manageable in the jump tracks as well
so I think with a bit more time a bit more setup we'll be in a pretty sweet spot on this bike and
looking forward to spending more time on this because the one thing that does concern me is
the durability of that little idler wheel it's already a bit noisy and just the amount of torque
going through that thing has me a little bit concerned but we'll see so stick around for a
long-term review of this bike and we'll catch you then
