Hello, Juice Box friends!
Welcome to our very special Our Lady of Guadalupe party.
This apparition of our Blessed Mother is amazing, so I can't wait to celebrate.
We have some snacks, a magical coloring page, and I'll tell you all about the story.
Let's go!
Juice Box!
Our story begins almost 500 years ago in Mexico.
This is a time of big changes.
The Spanish had recently arrived, bringing Christianity with them.
But the native people of Mexico had their own beliefs.
Some felt torn between believing in Jesus and the traditions of their ancestors.
There was one native man named Juan Diego,
who heard the good news of Jesus and really believed in Him.
He loved Jesus so much that he walked many miles every day to go to Mass.
One day during his walk, he saw a bright light on Tepeyac Hill.
And there in the light was a beautiful lady, dressed like a queen,
with a cloak covered in stars and the sun glowing all around her.
The lady was Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Juan was surprised not only by the beautiful queen,
but that she also spoke his native language.
She asked him,
Juan, go to the bishop and tell him I want a church built on this hill.
It will be a place where I can show God's love to everyone.
Juan Diego did as she asked, but the bishop didn't believe him right away.
It does sound pretty crazy, the queen of heaven appearing on a hill.
So Juan went back and asked Our Lady for help.
She told him to gather roses that were on the hill,
even though it was wintertime and roses don't usually grow there.
But when he looked, there were beautiful and rare Spanish roses.
How unexpected!
He gathered the roses in his tilma, which is like a cloak, and returned to the bishop.
When he opened his tilma for the bishop,
not only was he surprised by the beautiful rare roses,
there was an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe right there on his cloak.
The image wasn't just beautiful, it was powerful.
It reflected both the Christian faith and the culture of the native people.
She wore symbols they understood, like the stars on her mantle.
Many people recognized this,
and millions of native people in Mexico started believing in Jesus Christ.
Our Lady is often called Mother of the Americas because of the peace and unity she brought.
The tilma with her image is still with us today in Mexico City.
Where people from all over the world go to see it.
It reminds us how our Blessed Mother Mary brings people to her son Jesus.
Now that our story is complete, let's enjoy our guacamole and hot chocolate.
These remind us of the beauty and joy of Mexican culture, just like Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Thank you for celebrating with us.
Remember Our Lady is always here to help us follow Jesus.
And check out the description to get your own coloring page.
Well, until next time.
Bye!
