🧳 KARIM: https://www.instagram.com/karimsalmen 🥢 FOODIES LLC: https://www.instagram.com/foodies_llc My hometown of Miami is one of the best up-and-coming foodie cities in the United States. My favorite thing to do when I’m at home is to explore everything it has to offer and share it with you guys. Come with me as I try some spicy Szechuan Chinese food in Miami, Florida! I first visited China back in 2015 with my dad, and then I traveled there solo in 2019. During my second trip, I got a taste of everything from Ningbo to Yunnan to Cantonese cuisine, but the one that sticks in my mind the most is Szechuan, a famously spicy cuisine from a Chinese province of the same name. 👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH: https://teespring.com/stores/davids-been-here 🌎 MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG: https://davidsbeenhere.com/ I love fiery foods, so I linked up with my boy Karim to have some spicy Chinese food at Foodies LLC, a small Chinese restaurant in Miami. They sell everything from Szechuan to Hong Kong-style food. They’d be giving us a big mix, so I couldn’t wait! In the kitchen, we met the cook, Weng, who made use some Peking duck, a dim sum platter, fried soft shell crab, spicy tofu, spicy beef with peppers. Everything looked and smelled phenomenal! One of my favorite things about Szechuan cuisine is the use of numbing spices, which add heat but also numb your lips and tongue! It’s a weird sensation but it’s part of the fun of eating spicy Chinese food! The restaurant had a nice bar-like feel. They close at 10 p.m. They brought us 8 different dishes in total. Karim and I started with the crispy shrimp balls, which were fried rock shrimp with a marinade on them. I liked the breading and the hint of spice. They were also chunky and creamy! We enjoyed it with some refreshing lemon black tea. Next were honey citrus chicken wings, which were coated in a sweet, glazy sauce but were still had a crispy exterior. I added some homemade chili sauce. The heat was amazing and so flavorful! This was real, authentic Chinese food! Then, we tried the dim sum platter, which included shrimp dumplings, pork siu-mai, chicken dumplings, soy sauce, spicy sauce, and more. I loved the shrimp dumpling with the spicy chili sauce, and Karim loved the chicken dumpling. The pork siu-mai with both sauces was even more flavorful. I also really liked the chunky pork inside. Next, we jumped on the Peking duck, which comes with an unbelievable sauce and little wrappings, cucumber, and spring onion. You wrap it up in a little taco for a meaty, sweet, crunchy bite! The chili sauce added some heat! The chili boiled beef came down in an oily broth with spring onions, sprouts, parsley, and chilies. Immediately, I felt it numb my mouth, but the actual heat sneaks up on you! This was real Szechuan food, and the tingling sensation lingers for a long time! The Szechuan pepper soft shell crab was fried and came with lots of chilies. It wasn’t too crispy and oily and was so flavorful! Next, we went for the Singapore curry rice noodles, because my mouth was still on fire! They were dry, but adding a bit of soy sauce livened them up! Our final spicy dish was the mapo tofu. The tofu was nice and fluffy, and wasn’t as spicy as I though it would be. It was flavorful and melts in your mouth. It pairs well with white rice. Then, I went back to the chili boiled beef because it was just way too good! I was dying from the heat but I loved it! My favorite dishes were the spicy beef, Peking duck, noodles, and dim sum but Karim’s favorite was the honey citrus chicken wings! Where have you been? That's the way to do it.
Good morning everyone. I hope you're all doing well.
This is David Hoffman from David's Been Here.
Coming at you from beautiful Miami, Florida. My hometown.
With my boy Karim.
Karim, are you ready?
I'm excited. Excited for this.
Today we're here at Foodies LLC.
An incredible small Chinese restaurant.
This place looks amazing.
They have Sichuan super spicy food.
They have Hong Kong specialties.
They have so much to choose from.
I'm excited. They told me they're going to bring out like 10 dishes.
Dude.
I don't even know if we're going to finish it.
But let's do it. Let's get right into it.
Let's try it.
Alright, let's go.
Mask on.
Let's do it.
We're still in a pandemic, unfortunately.
And roughly 4 million people around the world have died from COVID-19.
At least 70% of Americans are at least partially vaccinated.
Which is great.
But we need to get to the number of fully vaccinated people much higher.
With cases of the Delta variant still climbing,
the World Health Organization is recommending
that even fully vaccinated people wear a mask
and practice other COVID safety measures.
Alright.
This is our head chef.
Hi, chef.
Chef, how are you doing?
Hi.
So we're going to eat Peking duck.
Oh, I love Peking duck.
Straight from Beijing, right?
And over here we have dim sum.
Oh, wow.
So that's like a dim sum assortment.
This is the dim sum platter.
Here she's frying the soft-shell crab.
I love soft-shell crab.
Is that going to be spicy or no?
It's like tofu with spice as well.
Mapo tofu.
It's spicy.
Spicy and numbing.
Yeah, that's the thing about Sichuan pepper.
It is numbing.
Super numbing.
Your lips start to go numb.
Your tongue.
Oh, it's good though.
I enjoy it.
It smells so good.
Like, I just want to eat it right now.
From the pan.
Can we do that?
And this is some really, really spicy, numbing beef.
Wow, you can see all the peppers.
Oh, this is going to be the best one.
My favorite for sure.
Let's go, let's eat.
By the way, I love this restaurant.
It's like a bar feeling, right?
So you have a few tables and you have the bar.
Right here.
Bro, it looks, everything smells so good.
I'm just dying to eat.
And the place, you have to come for drinks here.
It would be so cool.
We should do drinks right now.
I know.
We're going to have some sake.
What time do you guys close?
What time we close?
10.
10?
So come here like 8.30, 9 for drinks latest.
I was going to say late night spot, but it's not.
Kareem, can you believe this?
This is so much food.
You guys don't even know.
We have so many places to eat.
I just want to start.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 different plates.
And we're going to start off with these, which are crispy shrimp balls.
I mean, it's basically like fried shrimp with some marinade, right?
It looks amazing.
It smells amazing.
Oh, man.
This is almost, I think they call it rock shrimp in some other places.
It's rock shrimp.
Okay.
Oh, you need soy sauce, huh?
Yeah, I'm a soy sauce lover.
This guy's soy sauce all day.
I'm just going to put a little bit.
Maybe a little bit more.
What I was scared about with this one is that it looks really filling.
Obviously, it's breaded.
We have a long way to go, so this is not the ideal first time, you know?
Cheers, bro.
Nice bread.
A little spicy.
Not so much.
It's something.
It's like a super creamy, I wouldn't say mayo, but similar.
So good.
Wow.
I think I'm going to have to have another one.
This time with my hands.
Yeah, I thought I was going to take it light today.
Huge, chunky shrimp.
I love this tea as well.
This is so good.
Guys, if you come here, you need to try this.
What's the name of it?
You know it.
What's the name of the tea?
Lemon black tea?
It's amazing.
Super refreshing.
So good.
I love it.
One more, please.
That is so good.
So what to next?
Dim sum?
Or this is chicken wings?
Let's do the chicken wings too.
Yeah, man.
Chicken wings.
This is like, I guess it's like honey marinade.
This is not going to be spicy.
Not spicy at all.
So we just.
Just grab.
Dude, to be honest, I love the drumstick, but the wings as well.
I mean, they're both good for me.
This is super.
Look at that.
Let's make a mess right now.
Glazy sauce.
So good.
Yeah, just fill it up.
Super sweet.
So sweet.
A little bit crispy on the outside.
For me, definitely needs a little bit of spicy.
A little bit of hot sauce with this would be amazing.
We have some.
So we have some homemade hot sauce.
Are you ready?
Drop a little bit on it.
That's it.
Trust me.
Dude, I think we should finish this too.
Take it slow.
Try everything.
Whatever you really like, go back to.
But for this one, the hard thing is that it got really cold.
It's delicious.
A person can eat like a billion chicken wings.
I guess I'll get the wing.
I'll come back just for the wings.
That and some of that tea, right?
Well, two plates down.
They're both amazing so far.
We might be saying this right now, but everything looks so good.
Everything looks so good.
So authentic.
You know, that's one thing that's hard.
Here in Miami, it's finding good, good Chinese food.
But I feel like this is the best one I've had so far.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Here in Miami at least, like 100%.
And you've only had two dishes.
Yep.
It's crazy.
So what are we trying next?
Something spicy.
Oh, let's go with dim sum.
Well, okay.
Let's do a dim sum.
Right?
Dim sum.
No, you didn't do it properly.
Okay.
Check this.
That's the way to do it.
You get the whole aroma, you know?
You get the aroma.
Yeah, I know.
It just steams out.
Unfortunately, we opened it a few times for photos, but it's all good.
But it's so...
Wow.
So what do we have?
There's so many options.
So we have like shrimp shumai we have right here.
I think that's my favorite.
That's the best.
The shrimp shumai for me is the best.
Dad, if you ever go to any like restaurant, like traditional Chinese restaurant,
they only serve dim sum like in the mornings.
You get like a million of those.
This is the best.
And then we have, I think these are pork right here.
Sorry, I just want to eat.
Let's go, let's go.
So I'll get this one.
I'll go with this one.
What is this one?
You know this one?
Shrimp dumpling.
Oh, shrimp dumpling.
Shrimp shumai.
This one has pork.
Yeah, this is for the dim sum.
This is not soy sauce.
That's not soy sauce.
This one's spicy.
I didn't get the shrimp shumai.
I got the shrimp dumpling.
And you got the chicken dumpling.
Chicken dumpling.
Okay, so I'm going spicy.
It's like a sweet and sour.
I think the only way to do it is going both.
Both?
So I'll do both a little bit.
Okay.
I guess I'll do both.
I'm a lot of a, like I'm a sauce guy.
That's my problem, so.
Yeah.
I'm a sauce guy too.
I'm a, like I'm a super sauce guy.
I eat everything with sauce.
Why not, bro?
Cheers.
Is that super spicy?
Not super spicy.
Mine was like a little spongy.
Yeah, it's more of the sweet and sour you were saying.
Yeah, yeah.
It is.
I mean, if you just go like that.
Mm-hmm.
You see the chilies right there.
Yeah.
Oh.
How was it, the shrimp one?
The shrimp one was good.
Okay, I'm making a super mess here.
No problem.
I'm gonna go with, so I'm going with the pork shumai this time.
This one right here.
So what are you mixing?
Everything.
Just mix it all.
A little bit of the soy sauce.
Cheers again.
Mm-hmm.
Not so good.
Mm-hmm.
Mm.
So meaty.
Very chunky.
Delicious pork.
Mm.
The problem is we're reviewing two different things at the same time.
I know, I know.
Mm.
I'm gonna lay off dim sum for a bit because there's so many things.
I mean, spicy, spicy, noodles, duck.
Duck, right?
Duck?
Should we do duck?
Let's do duck.
Peking duck.
Here we go.
So what is Peking duck?
I have no idea.
Man, Peking means Beijing, right?
Peking is Beijing.
So Beijing duck, we have the amazing wrap, right?
Sorry, I'm just breaking it up.
My favorite thing about the Peking duck is that sauce.
That sauce.
I've never had this.
You've never had this?
Okay.
I was about to put like every single sauce on top.
No, no, no.
Just this sauce.
So first we get the sauce, right?
Just put a little bit on.
It's like a, it's a nice sweet sauce, right?
Is it like a barbecue?
That's how it looks for me.
It does look like it, right?
Peking duck, you know?
So it's a roasted duck.
You have also a drumstick here.
I think this is, I don't know, the neck or something, right?
Just get like a piece.
I get a lot.
I'm going to split it up.
I stack them.
I think I might go like super light with the duck for now.
Then you just wrap it, right?
Yep.
Just like that.
Peking duck.
Let's do it.
Mm-hmm.
Sweet sauce.
I'll add more, man.
Just like a bite.
Mm.
I have mixed feelings about it.
Like I don't know what's happening yet.
You know what I mean?
Don't kill me.
Oh, do it.
Do it.
It's fine.
You can do whatever you want, you know?
Mixing sauces and stuff.
But I love that sauce.
It's one of my favorites ever.
Oh, you like the spice, right?
Mm.
Oh, so good.
I'm going to build myself another one.
Really fast.
A smaller one.
Just like that, right?
So you just put it on top.
You get both cucumber and spring onion, right?
That's what you said.
And then.
Green onion.
One more bite.
He's getting his second.
Like, I can't even breathe right now.
We still have like three or four more plates to go, so.
This one, I added the onion.
Different taste.
Last time I had a little bit, but it's good.
Try it with the sauce, with the red sauce.
Just dip into that.
Mm.
Chinese people are going to be like, this is wrong.
But is it, though?
Add that.
Yeah, add it.
If you're going to have it, just try it.
Just try it.
It's not going to kill you.
Well, are you ready for spice?
Because we have three super spicy dishes.
So chili boiled beef.
I'm struggling right now.
I just realized how many plates we got left.
Wow.
Look at this.
Look at the amount of chilies in here.
But is it like noodles as well?
No.
So there's, what's in here?
Sprouts?
I'm scared.
I'm scared a little bit.
Are you scared?
It looks so spicy.
What's crazy is that when you smell it, it's like the numb.
You feel numbing already.
So you just grab like that.
Like some of that beef, right?
Spring onions.
We have what else in here?
Just a lot of chilies.
I think we should both grab a pepper and eat it.
A pepper?
Just for the fun of it, you know?
Okay.
I mean, full disclosure here.
Don't try this.
They were asking us like, how spicy do you want it?
I'm like, I eat spice.
No, I eat spicy as well, so.
He eats spicy, so we should definitely go a little higher than medium.
Chili pepper and...
Right away you feel the numbing.
It's that numbing oil.
I'm going to keep eating this.
I thought it was going to be a lot more spicy than this.
Not that bad.
I mean...
No, it is.
It is, dude.
Should we get some chilies?
I did one and it didn't do anything.
Oh, but it's numbing my mouth right now.
It's numbing your throat.
It's like real Szechuan.
Because you guys don't know, Szechuan is a province or the region in China.
Super spicy food.
Do it.
I'm going to do like 20.
I'm regretting it.
Yep.
Spicy.
You feel it later though.
It's not one of these heats that like kills you right away.
Like in India or Mexico, you feel like super hot.
I have no mouth right now.
My mouth is sleeping.
So numb right now.
You know, this is not my personal favorite, but this is so good.
I think the thing with this is that it's straight beef, oil, spring onions, and that's it.
I think this is an acquired taste as well.
Not everybody enjoys this.
I usually don't like it, but this one is so good.
But it's so spicy.
I think I should have put a bib.
I'm going to ruin my jersey.
I don't think CR7 would like that.
I'm taking all of this home.
It's hot.
You know what's crazy is that the tingling doesn't go away.
Yeah, I don't know.
It's going to stay there forever.
And this one has it as well.
It has it as well.
So we have sauce shell crab with the chilies on the side or like all over it.
Oh, this was sweet.
I want to go for a small one.
Go for a small one.
Smaller piece.
You got a small one.
It's nice.
I got a small one.
Here, have one.
I'll have a big one.
I'll take this one.
This is good.
Look at that.
Oh, my lips are like numb.
Do we eat this with a sauce or no?
Sauce for this?
Do we eat this with sauce or no?
No sauce.
They said it.
I love sauce shell crab.
Nice and fried.
Not too fried.
Nice like batter.
Am I the only one that feels like this tastes like chicken in a way?
Does it?
I don't know.
I think it's just the friedness, right?
The tingling is killing me right now.
Right.
Nummy.
You're sweating already.
Oh, my God.
Look at my head.
But you've been eating so much as well.
He went straight in for the peppers so he's like...
But it's not so bad.
I've had crazy.
You can handle it.
I am melting.
I take my hat off.
I need something in between spice.
So we're going with the Singapore curry rice noodles, right?
In my opinion, it's a little bit of sauce.
Looks too dry for me.
You need sauce?
Look at this.
No, let's do a little bit.
I don't think we're going to be able to finish this.
No, no, no.
Everything's going home.
You ready?
Yes, sir.
See, here's my take on this.
It's too dry for me.
But you put any sauce on this and they're amazing.
Well, they're amazing still.
So dry.
So add this one.
Let's get a little bit.
I'm just going to put a tiny bit.
Try it.
You need to try it right now.
You have a part in your mouth with the sauce.
That's what I'm telling you.
I want to eat more, but we still have one more super spicy one.
Are you ready for some mashed soybeans tofu?
I'm excited.
This is the last plate.
I've had everything.
To be honest, I am really full.
I think that's yours.
That's mine?
Yep.
I need a lot less than that.
Super fluffy.
I love tofu.
Vegetarian, you know?
It's really big in Asia.
Not as spicy as I thought it would be.
Let me get some more from here, from the bottom.
You're going to add it, huh?
You have to.
I don't know.
It's a weird feeling, you know?
It's very spongy.
It's super fluffy.
It melts in your mouth, basically.
The taste is good.
The flavor and everything.
I mean, if you want to go on a good, clean diet, you can add this to your diet.
Instead of having chicken or meat, you got this.
And it's super lean.
Dude, it's almost no calories, you know?
Oh, okay.
I'm taking this one.
Take it, take it.
You have to pair it with the rice.
You got a lot of oil.
No, but it is a little bit spicy.
It is a little bit.
There's one thing that I just got in my throat that is killing me.
This one.
Bring it back.
Look at that.
He's eating.
I got a food coma going on.
Oh, my God.
It's crazy.
Well, I'll tell you.
I love this restaurant.
It's definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants I've had here in Miami.
Yeah, I've been to many Chinese restaurants in Miami.
This is the top.
This right now.
I mean, food-wise, quality.
Different plates.
Like, so many different varieties.
And then having Szechuan, super spicy food.
And you can go really spicy.
Like, we kept it a little higher than medium.
Yeah.
I think if we would have gone, like, the spices.
No, you can't.
You wouldn't.
Like, you'd feel bad tomorrow, you know?
No, no, no.
I love spicy food.
That's my problem.
But I know I wouldn't have finished it, you know?
Maybe next time.
I'll come and try the spices one.
We'll see.
You're dying right now.
I'm dying, but I love it.
I love the heat.
It's so good.
Well, guys, I hope you enjoyed this super huge feast with my boy Karim.
Eating with us.
Please follow him on IG.
And YouTube.
I'm going to start YouTube.
Like, I always say I'm going to start, but this is the time.
This is the time.
I'm actually going to be super consistent with it.
Make sure to go and, well, you're going to put my platform too.
Put everything.
And so what was your favorite dish?
You know what I like a lot and I didn't think I was going to like that much?
Is the sweet chicken.
The sweet chicken?
Yeah.
That one with the sauce and everything.
So good.
I think for me, I love the noodles.
I love the dim sum.
The dim sum was amazing as well.
Peking duck for sure.
And then this one for me.
Oh, the Peking duck surprised me because I thought I wasn't going to like it.
And it was really good.
Awesome.
Everything.
You guys have to come by.
Yeah.
To this restaurant, right?
You're going to put the restaurant here?
The restaurant's right here.
Like, literally on the next area up next to downtown, which is called Arts Entertainment District.
The area is almost brand new.
Like, all new developments.
We're in a brand new building.
Yep.
And yeah, it's an incredible place.
Right next to the port.
So if you're downtown Port of Miami or you're in South Beach, just cross the bridge and you're right here.
And guys, I hope you enjoyed this video.
Eating super spicy Szechuan food here in Miami.
Amazing.
Everything was amazing.
Oh, and by the way, they also have a full bar.
Sake.
They've got beer.
Don't forget to get this.
The tea.
It's black tea?
No, lemon.
Lemon black tea.
I think it's lemon black tea.
Lemon black tea?
But dude, my lips are numb.
This is like our third one or second one each.
Guys, I hope you enjoyed the video.
