Lightyear star Chris Evans chats about returning to the superhero game and his own feelings on the Toy Story franchise.
Well, I would say, what's it like to beat both Brolins in the end?
I mean, look, you got to take your licks, but at the end, they might have won the battles,
but I feel like I came out and won the war.
We thought you were out of the superhero game.
Right back in.
Yeah, right?
Every time you think you're out, they pull you back in.
Right back in.
How does it feel to be back?
Good.
I mean, with Pixar, I would have done anything.
I thought I had a great story going, because I was like, oh, I bet Chris Evans named Sox
because he's a big Red Sox fan.
Right.
No, I had no say over that, and I was hoping that they made the Sox cat look like Dodger
because of my dog, but no.
No, this was all just some lucky kismet outcome.
Big Easter egg coincidence.
Yeah.
Do you remember your first time seeing Toy Story and what you felt?
I don't know if I remember my first time seeing it.
I remember loving it deeply.
I remember the fact that I was a big, big animation fan growing up, and at the time,
it certainly kicked the door down to a new approach to the medium, and I was just so
excited about a new style of filmmaking in the world of animation.
So it had an impact, but I can't tell you if I remember the first time.
I know it was in theaters.
I really thought after that, like you kind of Truman showed me, I was like, oh, all my
knickknacks are coming to life when I leave the room.
I don't know if you felt that.
Yeah, of course.
Well, I thought that beforehand.
I mean, to this day, I feel like I feel bad for different articles of clothing that don't
get worn.
Right?
Sorry, sweater.
Yeah.
It's been a while.
What was it like uttering the phrase, to infinity and beyond?
I feel like I talk to people that do like May the Force Be With You, and they're like,
this was a big deal for me.
Yeah.
Terrifying.
You know, because you know, it's such an iconic line.
It's something that we all know, and it's something that Tim Allen did perfectly.
So you want to pay homage to that and acknowledge that it's iconic for certain reasons.
But you have to try and find some personal interpretation.
The good thing is the character itself is the human version of the toy.
So you can still use what Tim did as your blueprint and kind of, you know, steal from
it.
What is it like to get beat down by two Brolins at this point?
Well, I would say, what's it like to beat both Brolins in the end?
Depends on what part of the movie you're watching.
I mean, look, you got to take your licks, but at the end, I might have won the battles,
but I feel like I came out and won the wars.
That's true.
Now this movie, it does the classic Pixar thing, which is it makes you cry.
What is the hardest you've ever cried during a Pixar movie?
Man, probably Up.
Up was a tough one.
And I didn't know.
You know, I watched it with a buddy of mine.
You know, this movie, whenever it came out, but we were probably in our thirties.
And we just casually watched it, I was my roommate at the time.
And we just popped it on not thinking, not knowing that it was going to be the best love
story ever told in the first 10 minutes.
So Up certainly ripped my heart out.
Inside Out got me pretty good though.
God, I mean, they all do, don't they?
This one got me too, you know, I mean, that whole, I don't want to give anything away,
but it got me.
There are a couple of post-credits scenes.
Do you think this could be something that you would do in a long haul type way?
Buzz, buzz, buzz?
I would do it as long as they would have me.
