Praise To The King: A Palm Sunday Message Matthew 21:1-11

Apr 4, 2026

It was a difficult time for the Jewish people. Rome, the rulers of the day, was oppressive to Jews. Often they levied heavy taxes as well as vicious military responses to any kind of dissent. The Romans also hurled insults at the Jews, interfered with Temple worship and activities, and anything else they could get away with to torment and denigrate the Jewish people. In the Jewish mind, the biggest concern was freedom from Roman rule.
It was with this background that Jesus came. He had preached and taught, performed many different kinds of miracles, including healing the sick. And now he had raised Lazarus from the dead. Surely Jesus was the one who had come to liberate and save them. And now Jesus was about to enter Jerusalem, in fulfillment of prophecy, and was being hailed and worshiped as King of the Jews. Unfortunately, they were looking for liberation from the wrong thing.
Today, we want to look at the events and people that surround the day we call Palm Sunday. Then we want to look at our own lives, and ask ourselves, do we, for the right reason, give, "Praise To The King."
