My Barbados adventure took me to Oistins, a seafood lover’s paradise known for its famous flying fish—Rihanna’s favorite! 🐟 At Oistins Bay Gardens, I explored vendors offering swordfish, mahi mahi, marlin, lobster, and more. At Pat’s Place, we tried flying fish, swordfish, and mahi mahi paired with creamy macaroni pie and salad. The flavors, sauces, and grilled freshness were unforgettable! After dinner, we visited Berinda Cox Fish Market and ended the night with rum & ginger ale by the ocean. Join me for the ultimate seafood feast in Barbados!
Good afternoon everyone this is David Hoffman from David's Bin here coming at
you from beautiful Barbados. Today I'm taking you to eat at Oystens. Oystens is
a food complex right here on the water and is the most famous place on the
island to have flying fish and every other type of fish but I came here for
flying fish. My man, tell me about Oystens. Oh my gosh look at that.
Alright so Oystens. That's the best part of Oystens. Oh that is? For me it is. Right so you got a bunch of
basic street food, kinds of food stalls, food shops. You can get not just flying
fish but fish in any form, any fashion. Grilled, fried, you name it macaroni pie.
You got fruit, all these sites, all the good Bajan food. So the best time to come
here is Friday night but Friday night right here in the center they have live
music so right now there's very little music. Friday night it is bumping but
they also bring out all the fire outside so they'll be cooking outside but with
the music and everything I decided I wanted to do it now. We'll come here
tomorrow night, Friday night to see a little bit of it but let's go order some
fish. Sup guys, how you doing? Got some fish? Let's order, let's order.
Oh look, flying fish right here. So for sure flying fish right? I mean we have to get
flying fish and this is fried or this is just on grill? Grill. Okay perfect.
But what are you guys eating? You're gonna get mahi-mahi? Yeah yeah of
course. You? Swordfish. So we're getting swordfish, flying fish and mahi-mahi.
Also known as dolphin but it's mahi-mahi. You know it's funny people don't know
that. And that's why they have to put it. They have to put it. Otherwise they think it's
slippery. Oh that's be horrible. So that's gonna cost us roughly 40, 35 and it says
swordfish right? So 70, 110 so it's like a 55 US dollars for this. 110. I'm running
out of money. That's it dude, I'm done.
So fast. That's the flying fish. It cooked it literally in like a minute.
Finished already? This is for us? This is us? It's a beautiful fillet right there.
It's all done? Alright so let's see what we sip. Oh man thank you so much.
Appreciate it. Thank you. I'm having the flying fish. Flying fish. Look at this guys.
So that's flying fish and then a lot of macaroni pie which is basically macaroni
and cheese right? And then you got? Fried fruit chips and mahi-mahi. Mahi-mahi. So mahi-mahi is a big
fish. Mine is small in comparison right? Here we go. Ready? So how do we do it? We
just do it my friend. We just do it. I like this. No time like now. Flying fish.
Super tiny. Yeah. Hey bro. Cheers.
Love the spices. Wow. Mmm. So I should have two macaroni like this was macaroni
and cheese. This is macaroni pie over here right? Oh yeah. So creamy. The perfect
contrast. Mm-hmm. Oh this one's hot and this is cold. Yeah. Yeah. That's macaroni salad and macaroni pie.
That's what that is yeah. That's super nice. Mahi. Super mahi dude. I love this. This is a sandwich. Yes.
And over here we have tartar sauce. So if you want some tartar sauce on the side. You don't want to come out huh?
You want pepper sauce? I'll get mine. I'll get mine. But let's try this one. Oh this is like
this is not even a pepper sauce. This is more like a like a glazy mustard right?
So let's grab some of this fish with some macaroni pie. I'm gonna go straight
into this. Mix it in. Get some more fish in here. Like that. It is a little spicy.
It's like a breadfruit chip. It's a breadfruit chip. For sure. I love breadfruit chips. So much better than cassava chips,
french fries. Any day of the week. Mm-hmm. Mmm. The tartar sauce. It's sweet. That one's very sweet.
I love this macaroni pie. It's a monster. It's a vegan tradition buddy. Mm-hmm. Oh it's so good. I think the best thing to do is get the fish
alone. Dude I might have to like grab it. This fish like falls apart so easily right?
It's a tiny fish. Yeah that's why I think it's small. Mm-hmm. But luckily they give you three of them right? Oh I love the spice. It's like a
nice, almost like a peppery glaze.
It's so like, tons of like lime juice. Cut the fish in this. Mm-hmm. You know, I have to.
The lime fish right? I'm gonna add some David's Vineyard hot sauce to the lime fish.
Sorry guys. This bottle's gonna be done in like one day. I only brought one on
this trip. Just testing it out. Mmm. Oh yeah. I'll hit you with it. So delicious.
Need water. So this place on Friday nights, it's time to come. This place will be lit.
Everybody eating fish. Everybody partying. Liming basically. Have a good time.
Look at that. You got the rooster. You have the hens. Little chickens everywhere. Mm-hmm.
Good food, huh? So you got swordfish, huh? It's good? Try it. Try it. So this is swordfish right here.
Monster fish. Look at that. It's a huge fillet. Mm-hmm. It's like blackened, right?
Yeah. So it's blackened. Look how monster this swordfish is. So for me, swordfish,
mahi-mahi, the ultimate. Obviously tuna, the ones I eat the most really. But so I'm
gonna mix this. Mmm. Mmm. Swordfish is great. It's thick. Because I'm missing no bones here, right?
Yeah, what we call steak fish. It's literally steak fish, right? Look how thick it is. I'm gonna try it with this.
Have to. Mmm. My sauce is a winner. You sure you don't want? Mmm.
Mmm. The macaroni. This is like. Macaroni is life. But the macaroni salad, so fresh, nice and cold.
Look at the textures here. So nice. This is good. This is like comfort seafood. Yeah. Right?
Yeah. Always like this, to go. Yep. This is beyond good. And it's straight from the water to here.
Oh, guys. There's a fish market, right? So after this, we're gonna walk over to the fish
market and see if we see any vendors, you know, selling fish, cutting up fish, right?
And most of these guys just go there? Or they all go there, basically. More or less, yeah.
The smoky flavor. The smoky flavor, the freshness. Better than Trinidad. Namaste. We all love each other.
I know. In the Caribbean, they all have a love-hate relationship. They all love each other, but then they
also have these rivalries. It's like, come on, guys. Yeah, yeah. In Trinidad, our barbados got a war over
flying fish. Come on. The bread food's good. All right. Bread food? All day, man. All day, every day.
You know what I like about it? There's so much flavor and it's so thick. It's not like a bland thing.
It's not like it's fried. It's just like lightly fried, you know what I mean? It's not like too crispy. It's not like...
Yeah, they don't put it in the deep fryer. Exactly. It's fire. This place is called, what, Pete's?
Pat's. So this is Pat's, right? So right here, main road, right there's the center, where the stage is,
the water behind us. We have many different vendors inside. Oh, look at the fire behind us.
Amazing. Dude, this is good food. And again, this is a pretty affordable, you know, basically
seat-to-table. Yeah. It's affordable. 55 U.S. dollars and we all had huge plates. Less than 20 bucks,
20 each. It takes a lot to get for something this heavy. Yeah, right? It is heavy.
I'm very full.
Swordfish. Very meaty.
It's good bread food with this, with the spice. I like this one.
One out of you guys, I'm full. Cheers, brother. Good, bro. Good food.
We're done, right? Seafood market? Fish market. Let's go.
Hey, thank you, thank you. So as you can see, lots of vendors here. Over here, there's a lot of
small bars. Hey, so these are like small bars, huh? Little ones, cool. So if you want, you can get a
food and drink. Lots of rum, huh? Hey, how are you doing? Very good. And over here, we have
Okay, so besides just being a fish market, some guys playing dominoes here. There's one craft
vendor here and he has a lot of different things. Oh, he has all these animals. That's nice. Cool
stuff, man. How are you doing? Everything good? Oh, wow. What is this? It's lion shark. So he has
a lot of crafts right there. The guy's name is Ipon. So go to him. He's at the very end right there.
Lots of wood carvings. And over here, there's a fish market. That's it, right? The market.
Endless fish. Massive red snapper. What do we have here? Your shoes are good. You can go right there.
How are you doing, sir? I'm okay, man. You're good? Yeah. Oh, look at that. Somebody cutting
red snapper. Yeah. Beautiful. I personally love red snapper, man. The best. So every day you guys
are here? Pretty much, right? Whoa, this is huge fish. What fish is this? It's a marlin.
Oh, that's beautiful. So what are you cutting there? Sugarfish. Sugarfish.
Okay. It always has his hand on the trigger, right?
The sugarfish. Beautiful. Oh, man. Starts off with a fin, then goes over the face.
Cut off the belly. Cut out the guts like that. One side off. Another side off.
Wow. So you just go into the whole entire thing, right? Clean it out. And that's it.
All right, here we go. Dolphin. Mahi-mahi. So you first have to take off some of the skin, right?
Oh, wow. Oh, wow. And he's over there cutting the marlin, huh? Yeah, he's cleaning it. So this is
the marlin. Look how big that meat is. It's literally like a steak, man. It's like huge.
How many years you've been doing this? 15 years. 15 years? Do your hands get like start to hurt
or no? My hands hurt after 10 years of my camera, man. So they clean it out now.
Gotta be careful here. Getting sprayed. So right here we have a four-foot
mahi-mahi. Huge, massive fish. You can see this is super tasty. And the best part about this place
is that everything comes from the sea to here. It gets cleaned and then straight to the guys
selling it so you guys can eat. See the table. My man, where are we going next?
This is the music, right? What I love about this is over here to the right, we got the
ocean. What up, guys? No, we're good. We're good. We're good. He's Beijing, man.
Over here, look, guys. Look at the Atlantic Ocean right there. All right, guys, so we made it back
to the very beginning of Oystens, right where we parked the car. And across the street is the
lane named Annie Barbecue and Grill. And here they got good drinks, right? So let's get a drink.
They got? They got some rum?
That one's a little short, huh?
Yeah, right. It's rumming time, bro.
Thank you, sir. How much is it? It's free, right? It's free? It's free? Free?
I'm messing with you, dude. I'm messing with you.
There you go. It's my trinis. All right, guys, here we go. Oystens, amazing.
Thank you, guys. Thank you for the experience. Hey, flying fish.
Rum in your ale. Yeah, I don't drink Coke, so I won't add Coke. No way.
It's nice, smooth. It's super refreshing right now. It's super hot. Yeah, yeah. Dude, I started
baking like two minutes ago. Wear a hat, put lots of sunscreen. My entire arm is super white
because of sunscreen. But yeah, that was our experience here at Oystens, right? So we started
off with walking around this area. We got some flying fish. We had swordfish. We had mahi-mahi
with macaroni pie, red fruit chips. Macaroni salad. Macaroni salad, of course. It was delicious.
And right there on a Friday night in the center, it is bumpy. If you pass by here, this is where
everybody is Friday night. You can eat, you can dance, you can drink. You know, that's what they
do here. Just have a good time. Right, have a good time. We might pass by tomorrow. I'm sure we will
just for a little bit. And after that, we went to the seafood market, the fish market, right?
They have they also have some other seafood. They have huge mahi-mahi, monstrous fish. And yeah,
it's a true experience there, you know, like it's amazing because the fish comes directly from the
sea to the fish market and then to here. So it is purely like, you know, the real sea to table
experience. And yeah, guys, that is it, right? Oystens, a must visit. It's the number one spot
on the island to visit. It's like number one attraction, right? For fish, of course.
So wow, so wow. Hey guys, cheers. Cheers. Thank you so much. And again, rum is life here.
They invented rum. We did. That's good. So guys, I hope you enjoyed this video in Barbados. Oystens,
