____________________
A report from a China-focused committee exposes new details on how the Chinese Communist Party
is evading U.S. oil sanctions and helping support the economies of Iran, Russia and
Venezuela.
NTD's Melina Weisskopf has the highlights.
Chairman of the Select Committee on the CCP shared a new report to expose how the Chinese
regime has kept the economies of Iran and Russia afloat while fueling its own authoritarian
agenda.
For years, the Chinese Communist Party has used so-called shadow fleets to undermine
U.S. sanctions and buy cheap oil from other authoritarian countries like Iran, Venezuela
and Russia.
Shadow fleets are old ships that evade detection, sometimes changing their origin flags.
The report finds that seized shadow fleet tankers delivered around 70 million barrels
of sanctioned crude oil to China.
The regime used this backdoor channel to stockpile a massive strategic petroleum reserve, roughly
$1.2 billion by early 2026.
While the ships are made to go undetected, so are the payment methods.
Investigators say the financial loop appeared to be the most sophisticated in Iran's case.
The CCP disguises oil payments as construction projects, building airports, refineries and
roads inside Iran.
The report's authors say Operation Epic Fury has greatly diminished the value of China's
shadow fleet, but added that China will likely continue to use the infrastructure it built
over the past few years.
Committee investigators revealed the Chinese regime built the command system in these shadow
fleets, which are often manned by Chinese and Russian military and intelligence personnel.
Investigators warned the system can be used not only to trade illegal oil, but to quietly
move sensitive equipment, personnel or weapons with minimal visibility.
The committee made several suggestions to deter future evasion.
Sanction ports receiving shadow fleets, establish a whistleblower rewards program for transshipment
