This time, I'd like to record my 34th podcast episode.
Today's date is March 26th.
I'm recording this podcast on Thursday, March 26th.
How was everyone's week?
I haven't recorded a podcast in ages.
I think everyone probably realized it on YouTube.
I was actually returning to my family home in Tottori Prefecture.
My birthday was at the end of February.
So my birthday was spent at my family's home in Tottori Prefecture.
Then I stayed in Tottori for about two weeks.
I got back to Osaka around the 10th of March, you know.
I've come to deliver the骂词 (insults) about the wisdom tooth that you've been muttering nonstop since you got back.
My face became really bright and cheerful.
It wasn't that I didn't have the leisure to shoot a video; rather, I simply didn't have the time.
It was so difficult that I couldn't even shoot a video.
But the troublesome wisdom tooth ordeal has also ended safely.
It's still slightly stitched, you see.
It's kind of uncomfortable in my mouth, or rather, it feels unpleasant.
It feels like there's still some pain lingering, I guess.
I'm enduring it day by day while taking painkillers.
How have you both been spending your past week or two?
Insults toward wisdom teeth
I'm really a scaredy-cat.
Anesthesia, more like intravenous or general anesthesia.
I decided to have the procedure done while I'm asleep.
You didn't have consciousness, then.
So it felt like I'd really just fall asleep and wake up to find it already over.
So painful or scary, etc.
I didn't have that kind of fear.
I'm really glad about it.
After it's over, okay?
My mouth really hurts.
It's hard to eat, and I can't open my mouth wide enough.
I still can't open my mouth a little even now
But somehow
It's now packed so tightly that you can't tell from the appearance.
Not even food at all
I'm just picking and eating things that seem easy to chew.
I'm eating, you know.
Basically, it feels like it's already improved quite a bit.
You know, quite a lot of people
Insults to wisdom teeth, you're doing your best, right?
Things that end in an instant, you know, like...
If I work hard now, I won't have to think about it anymore.
It was like they gently encouraged me in such a kind way.
I did my best.
Thank you very much
Yes
Last time's video, you know,
I make videos where I solve N1 level JLPT questions, among other things.
posting vlogs about going to the movies with my mom and stuff like that
I also tried posting a video of me and my mom doing a drive talk, you know.
In the N1 video,
It's impressive that everyone got 65 out of 69 questions right—truly worthy of a Japanese teacher, I'd say.
It's amazing how kind everyone is.
I thought maybe I'd get some backlash for it, though.
That's not true at all.
Everyone sent me such kind comments.
Thank you very much.
Even now, I still can't quite put together what I wanted to say back then.
Truly, those who have passed the JLPT N1
It's not just N1, you know.
At every level, it's the same.
It's not really my new language after all.
Learn a completely unknown language from scratch
even thinking about taking such an exam in the first place
I think it's amazing and wonderful.
Even more so, those who have already passed
Those who have passed a certain level exam
truly to my own efforts and to myself who has worked so hard until now
I think it would be nice if you could clap for me.
Especially N1 is so difficult that even native speakers like us can get it wrong.
It's a very difficult exam.
I truly think everyone who has passed is amazing.
Congratulations
Also regarding my interview video
Many people say my mother is incredibly kind.
You left a comment saying that.
Thank you very much.
I think my mother would be happy too.
And again, like this with my mother
It might be interesting if we could also shoot interview videos.
The me who talks with my mom or my friends
More than when speaking alone
I think I'm being more truly myself now.
Videos of such interviews as well
I thought it would be great if we could keep taking photos effortlessly.
To everyone who always leaves comments
Thank you so much indeed.
I thought it might end up being misunderstood.
I'd like to correct just one thing, rather than say
I really want to talk to you in detail and thoroughly.
In the interview video with my mother
I've always been interested in foreign countries.
I wanted to go abroad, or something like that
Getting married to a foreigner or something like that
Something like she said she was going to have a half-blood child
I think there was a discussion about that, don't you?
When I hear things like that
It's like I'm only interested in foreigners, or something.
Would it have been okay with anyone, as long as they were foreign?
I thought it might have sounded that way.
It's not really like that at all.
I've been dating someone Japanese for a long time, after all.
The person I have become engaged to this time is
It was an American, not a Japanese person.
I got engaged because I happened to like an American person, or something like that?
Because the person was a foreigner
That's why they got engaged or something like that
Of course, even if that's not the case
It would be a little sad if I were called a foreigner hunter.
Please don't say things like "outsider hunter."
I am not.
That's not quite right.
I received a comment saying "Foreigner Hunter."
Have you heard of the "Outsider Hunter"?
What kind of person is he/she?
What is an outsider hunter?
Something along the lines of "If they're really foreigners, then anyone will do"
About the person you're thinking of
Such people sign up on dating apps or the like.
Something like going on a date with anyone, just as long as they're foreign.
That's what people call "foreigner hunters."
For example, getting married for the purpose of obtaining a visa, you know
That's about it.
I wasn't doing it for that purpose.
I also used to think it would be great to actually marry a foreigner.
The reason is that
The fact that I was really interested in going abroad
culturally speaking, compared to Japanese people
It's romantic, after all.
Truly thoughtful and kind
That it's full of love
I've been watching it on dramas for so long.
I want to fall in love with someone who is foreign rather than Japanese.
It was nothing more than a mere admiration.
That's why, if they're definitely foreigners, they'd go out with anyone, right?
Because they're foreign, I want to marry them or something like that
That's not quite right.
It happened by chance, but it turned into a relationship where we're both genuinely fond of each other.
The person I became engaged to by chance
That's all—it's just that they were American.
So please don't misunderstand.
I know you're all kind-hearted, so I'm sure you understand this.
Never mind that.
I'd like to get straight to the main topic this time as well.
This time it's harassment
About what's called "Hara" or something like that
I was thinking about having a conversation.
For example,
Everyone and their talk about the term "sexual harassment" and such
Have you ever heard of it?
What part is that, the Hara Hara thing?
It comes from the English word "harassment."
When you say it's harassment, what do you mean?
Harassment is conveyed through words and actions.
Through words and actions
It means making the other person feel uncomfortable.
Causing unpleasant feelings
It's called harassment, you know.
Recently in Japan
I've been getting comments about sexual harassment quite frequently since long ago, but
Not just sexual harassment, but
By the way, sexual harassment refers to
It's an abbreviation for "sexual harassment."
Not just sexual harassment, but
It's already emotional abuse.
Sexual harassment
Alhara
Sexual harassment
It feels like bullying.
Harassment like that
There are many, aren't there?
The word "Hara" something
This is my student, you know.
Talking during the lesson
I was thinking, maybe something interesting...
This time, regarding this theme
I thought I'd give it a try.
What's with this damn hassle?
Have you ever heard of it?
I think "sexual harassment" is probably the most commonly heard word, though.
This time, let's do one by one.
what meaning it is being used for
I think it would be good if we could delve deeper.
Shall we start with sexual harassment first?
Sexual harassment is
The first time I heard the word "Hara" was when...
I think sexual harassment was probably the first thing, don't you?
Sexual harassment is when
I said it a moment ago, but
It's an abbreviation for the term "sexual harassment."
Omission
Sexual remarks and such
Comments about appearance or anything like that
We call it sexual harassment when someone does something that makes another person feel uncomfortable.
For example, sexual harassment
At work, there's a boss in his fifties or so.
toward a young female employee in her 20s
Saying things like "You know, today's different from usual" or something like that
Aren't your skirt shorter than usual today?
Commenting on appearances, saying things like that, and so on
Or asking things like, "Do you have a boyfriend?" and so on.
Or making comments like "You're not married or anything?"
In that manner
Sexuality, appearance, and so on
Ask me a question about that kind of thing.
We call it sexual harassment when someone makes the other person uncomfortable.
Recently, this kind of sexual harassment
Because everything gets labeled as sexual harassment these days
It's probably hard for men to do, isn't it?
Amazing, I'm a woman
I can't help but think how terrible and pitiful it is.
That's enough already, you know—anything and everything
Because I might get called sexual harassment, sexual harassment
No matter what comment I make
I think it'd be hard for a man to do, don't you?
Conversely, a female boss
towards young male employees, and so on
Making sexual remarks or comments, for example
Commenting on someone's appearance is also
Of course it's sexual harassment.
Frankly speaking, one way or the other
More so than what a woman says to a man
A man toward a young woman
Comments like that about sex and sexuality
Once I make a comment about appearance,
I wonder if it'll be immediately called sexual harassment.
Yes
There's nothing I can do about it anymore.
You shouldn't say things like "there's nothing I can do"
That's why men are like that
I think they're probably being quite careful.
I do understand that it might feel a bit creepy, you know.
My company's supervisor
It's not like we're talking about private matters or anything like that.
To someone who never does it normally
What if someone suddenly says, "You have a boyfriend all of a sudden?"
Why do I have to say something like that to you?
That's what happens, isn't it?
To the young female employee
That's why I can't stand it.
So whatever it is, anything and everything
Wow, it felt like I was sexually harassed by that person
I wonder if that's the case.
Yes
This is the first case of sexual harassment.
The second thing that often comes to mind lately is
Is this harassment?
Bullying at work, or workplace harassment, refers to
It comes from the term "power harassment."
As the name suggests, it's exactly that.
Why power?
The person above the superior in the higher position
A person who has power
Waving that power around
toward subordinates or the like
Doing things like saying aggressive words
They call it bullying, don't they?
When it comes to situations commonly associated with power harassment,
I think it's probably inside the company.
The company's superior to their subordinate
You can't even do something this simple?
saying things like that, or
in this manner
Maybe something like forcing it or the like?
Please do it no matter how difficult it may seem.
in this manner
Forcing someone against their will
situations that force one to do something
Something like making statements or speaking out, I guess.
The rest are all working overtime, so
You should also naturally work overtime, please.
in this manner
Using the power of my superior
To subordinates
Saying things in strong words
Forcing someone to do something against their will
We call it bullying.
Bullying and harassment
Bullying definitely happens in the workplace.
I think those are the words that would be used.
For example, parents toward their children
In terms of position, parents are above.
I think the child is downstairs.
Parents do something to their children
doing things like speaking forcefully
In the manner of bullying
I wonder if I should just not say it... I'm thinking maybe you've never heard of it.
It's definitely related to work.
In the relationship between a superior and a subordinate
I wonder if those words will come true.
Yes, it's bullying.
Company culture in Japan
I think most of you already know this, but
It's true that hierarchies are strict, isn't it?
Until my boss leaves
Things like I have to work overtime, you know
Until my boss leaves
My subordinates shouldn't be allowed to go back, or something like that?
All sorts of dark rumors like that
Some people might have heard of it before.
Something like that
I'm not sure if it's relevant, but...
There's also the term "bullying" (power harassment).
Lately, even in the news and such
You do see things like that, don't you?
In such a manner toward one's superior
I am being bullied at work.
In the worst case, I may have no choice but to resign from my job.
Sometimes things end up in such a situation...
Getting depressed and stuff like that, you know
Such sad issues and the like
Actually, it really is happening, after all.
In Japan
Who knows? In foreign countries, things like power harassment, you know...
How about it? Do you all feel it?
Seems wrong somehow
Something like a boss who knows how to wield power
I think there might be someone like that in every country.
But something about it
Culture of Japan and overseas
When it comes to differences,
After all, in Japan, the boss is always right.
My subordinate, after all, did what their superior told them to do.
The prevailing trend that makes it seem like one must comply
Even though the times are changing
You still have it left, don't you?
But foreign cultures, you know
More so bottom-up than top-down
In a bottom-up kind of way
Young people also express their own opinions
Saying things like that
People who have their own opinions are valued or appreciated
I think that's what they'd do, don't you?
In Japan
I knew it all along, this kind of thing
I think workplace harassment might still happen, don't you?
I think so.
The darkness of Japan.
Yes, next
Next is the commonly heard psychological abuse.
What is emotional abuse?
From the term "moral harassment"
They're coming, you know.
Judge the other person by their words, actions, or demeanor.
To torment someone mentally
They call it emotional abuse, you know.
In frequently encountered situations
Saying it aloud
Something about my boyfriend
Like a toxic boyfriend
Something like a psychological abuser male
It might be used for structural purposes, I suppose.
Like Morao
A man who is emotionally abusive
Called or being called Morao
Maybe do it.
That guy is seriously like a mora-o.
That's what a psychological abuser man is, right?
What do you mean by that?
That is to say
For example, if her boyfriend
Towards her
He's always in a superior position, no matter what.
Acting that way toward a girl
Psychologically
To trivialize something hurtful, as if it were foolish
By speaking out or doing things like that
Torture
You know, there are people like that, aren't there?
Occasionally
That's called "mora-o," you know.
He's a psychological abuser.
commonly used in romantic relationships between men and women
I think it's not really about words.
It feels like they're just mocking me.
Mocking the other person
That's what it's like, isn't it?
For example, today I
There was a presentation at school, you know.
I failed, and I'm too embarrassed to say more.
As if saying something like that, you know
You know, when you start talking about something that went wrong or failed, right?
Then, her abusive boyfriend
You can't even do something like that?
or making remarks that ridicule someone as foolish, and so on
Something like that
Didn't you do your best in your own way?
Something along the lines of teasing a little?
You understand? This
That's what they call emotional abuse, isn't it?
With those words
I'm really not doing well at all, am I?
I'm useless after all.
I'm such a worthless person.
doing things that make you think
They call it emotional abuse.
I am definitely not a narcissistic man.
We can't go out together, can we?
But things like this
Men are...
Because you're good at talking.
What could it be?
Sometimes it's really great, probably.
But in this kind of way
Sometimes, nezuke, nezuke, nezuke, nezuke.
You've been making fun of me all along.
things that lower self-esteem
It's like they're going to say something.
Get sucked into a toxic man
There's a girl, you know.
I know you might wonder why, but I'm absolutely determined to do it.
Dating someone like this is
Never mind that.
I'm being emotionally abused.
The next thing I often hear is
Sexual harassment, power harassment, moral harassment
I told you, didn't I?
Since you just mentioned you've recently started hearing about it,
I've heard things like "al-hara" too.
What is al-hara?
Alcohol harassment
It comes from words
Japan, everyone's a bit like that
I think many people already know this, but
There are quite a few customs surrounding drinking parties.
After finishing work at the company, together with my boss and others
It's like going to a drinking party, isn't it?
You know, don't you?
What is al-hara?
Superiors and such to their subordinates
Drink, drink, drink, you can drink alcohol
It's about giving it to them, even if it's forced.
Forced to drink something I don't want to drink
That's called sexual harassment.
They say
This is not just about the company
For example, a university
At circles or such places
Senior to junior
Drink it already, like you're telling me to.
Since the senior said so, you absolutely have to drink it.
say things like that sometimes
Call it harassment.
You say it's scary, isn't it?
That's why it's really
Regarding this, it's a matter of life and death.
It's also something related to everything, after all.
I've been overthinking everything.
In the worst case, one's life
I think there might be some connection, though.
Alcohol harassment is really
Aren't there even people with alcohol addiction?
I can't drink alcohol at all—literally to a pathological degree.
There are even people who can't tolerate it, you know?
Yet, it's acting like that
Something like forcing someone to drink it
To commit al-Hara
I think it's truly frightening.
Lately, what I've been hearing is
Al-Halal or something like that
Lately, all I've been hearing is "kashahara."
There are words.
Cyberbullying refers to customer harassment.
which originates from the word "that"
I don't know if everyone's heard of it, but
In Japan, there's a phrase like this:
The customer is god.
I see, there is such a phrase.
What I mean is
The employee and the customer
When comparing positions
You are absolutely the superior one.
Japan is
So, if you study honorifics and such, you'll probably realize it.
Store employees are absolutely
You speak to customers using polite language, don't you?
That's why
Abase yourself
Honorific language that makes the customer feel respected
Using
You absolutely must talk that way.
If I didn't use polite language
You think I'm joking?
It would become like that in Japan, you know.
As can also be seen from this culture
In Japan
After all, the customer is always right.
The term "customer harassment" came into existence.
Well, there's something like this in the background.
What is cyberbullying?
The customer said "upper" or "up"
Good thing
The customer looked down on the staff member.
It's really strong when it hits, isn't it?
So
For example, something small
Due to the employee's mistake
What the hell are you doing?
Saying things like "Go get the person in charge" or whatever
Something like this?
I can't pay money, you know.
When customers say things like that
Something like I'm about to post it on SNS
Saying things like that, you know
The customer is god.
From that standpoint
Something like that
Look down on and mock the store employee
Saying something hateful or vulgar, you know
to do
I call it cyberbullying.
You're right, back in the day
I used to work at Starbucks.
At that time
Things like casuistry
You didn't accept it, did you?
The customers who come, the customers who truly come
It was really just wonderful people all around.
That's so scary
Customers who harass us like that
But they weren't there.
In places like casual izakayas,
It must be a lot, wouldn't you say?
Probably, in izakayas, everyone drinks alcohol too.
There are many people who are drunk as well.
That kind of trash harassment is likely to happen, isn't it?
I think that way.
That comes from Japanese culture, right?
That customer is a god.
in such a culture
Because they've been growing up, everyone
You think you can say anything you want, don't you?
To the staff member
That's why such things
Acting big toward the staff
Looking down on someone
Shouting insults and the like
There are people who do that, aren't there?
I really hate people like that.
Towards people
People who change their attitude depending on the person
I hate it, don't you?
I wonder why you'd do something like that.
I think so.
Next
When it comes to harassment-related topics that I've been hearing lately,
There's something called "smehara."
Sexual harassment
Coming from smell harassment
For example
Everyone, the crowded trains in Japan, you know?
I think you know this, but
Like summer and stuff
Isn't riding a packed commuter train absolutely terrible?
No matter what happens
It's packed full of people, squished tight.
It stinks horribly.
That kind of smell
By smell
When I feel unhappy or distressed, or
If it offends your mood
You're saying it's cyberbullying now, aren't you?
Therefore, the summer in Japan
When I ride in a crowded train or something like that
Everyone might experience smehara.
I don't know.
That
Not just crowded trains
For example
Perfumes and such, perfumes that are a bit too strong
There were people who were attaching things here and there.
That perfume
I really feel nauseous.
Oh no, if I feel uncomfortable
That can be called "smehara," you know.
Really anything at all
Slight smell, a bit
to take offense at something
They call it "smehara."
Something like that, I guess.
Really?
There are so many that it's overwhelming.
What's this "Hara" stuff?
Words come one after another
So it's coming out, huh?
If something happens, or if something unpleasant occurs
As a gimmick
What's that, some kind of a hassle, huh?
in a way like that, anything at all
Liven it up and make it fun!
There are even young people who say such things, so
Truly, it has so many meanings
What's this thing called Hara?
They are appearing.
Even if it's just one
Were there any words you recognized?
Today, you know
I said
Sexual harassment, power harassment
Moral harassment, sexual harassment
Sexual harassment
Something like this
I mentioned a few things, you know.
Something like that, whatever it is, harassment
those words
Was there anyone who knew?
Nowadays, there are various terms for different kinds of harassment
Because of that
It's starting to feel a bit like a gimmick, you know?
In Japan
If everyone comes
Various things like that
You might hear the phrase "Hara" sometimes.
Today, you know
I have talked about this theme.
How was it, do you think?
I am
When someone does something to me normally
The feeling of having a bad experience
Not really, I'd say.
That's why I don't use this word too much
I've never used it before.
I'm not working for a company or anything like that either.
That's why at the company
Being sexually harassed or subjected to sexual harassment
There's also no issue with being subjected to emotional abuse or bullying at work, and so on.
Even my fiancé
Emotional abuse is truly completely different.
Because they are human
I wouldn't even use the term "emotional abuse"
Since I never ride the train anyway
I never have to endure sexual harassment either.
Even if I say I'm going to a drinking party
Nothing at all with friends
My friend keeps forcing me to drink alcohol against my will.
That's not always the case either.
Since I'm not being harassed anyway
Not really this whatever Hara
I never use it, though.
I guess working at a company is really something after all.
Women and stuff like that
Especially those working at a company
Young people, or new employees, you know
Things like this workplace harassment and the like
Enduring things like that
I fight every day.
In society, people
I think there must be a lot, wouldn't you say?
This video is about
I think I'll end it like this.
Once again
Everyone who watched until the end
Thank you so much indeed.

In your countries, it's like this:
Like ○○ Hara, but...
Is there a word like "Hara" in Japanese?
What words could there be, assuming so?
That also catches my interest.
Japan's this something Hara
How did you feel upon hearing that word?
Everyone, please tell me in the comments
I am happy.
See you in the next video.
Bye-bye
